Rocco Zikarsky drafted with 45th pick

Selected by the Chicago Bulls (pending trade to Minnesota via the Los Angeles Lakers)
Draft write-up summary:
A true project big man with massive physical tools and flashes of value on both ends ... Averaged 4.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks while shooting 52.4% from the field in 11.8 minutes per game for Brisbane in the 2024-25 NBL season … Participated in the 2025 NBA Draft Combine and kept his name in the draft … Viewed as a potential mid-second round pick for a team willing to take the long view … Will need G League time and physical development, but upside as a rim protector and finisher makes him worth the gamble … If he can stay healthy, improve his footwork and conditioning, and develop into a reliable rotation piece, he could become a valuable long-term asset.

It's now clear that Rocco entered the draft on a promise from the Timberwolves.
In a pre draft interview with Kane Pittman two days ago, Rocco was clearly excited and positive and said he had been based in Minnesota for a while now, had in fact done a workout with a team and that he loved Rudy Gobert and was going to base his game on him. That defensive centre type.
Well done Timberwolves for keeping the promise.

The wheel barrow is in front him imo, but good luck to him, hopefully they can get more out of him than Brisbane.

Fantastic result for the kid. Let's not forget he is only 18 years old. Realistically Brisbane did nothing for his development. I think Minnesota will be a great place for him. Finch is a great coach.

I think thats a great result for Rocco. I thought they'd ask him to stay away for another year or 2, particularly as they drafted another young project big in the first round.

Good luck to him.

He's very young and still very raw, and his ceiling and floor are hard to project. I remember Aron Baynes was still a bumbling mess in his early 20s but had promising size and athleticism. Big men tend to develop later and it pays to remember he is essentially a child playing amongst men. But if I were to guess his future it's clear he isn't Wemby. I think he's more Luke Schensher than Luke Longley. Could be solid off the bench for the Boomers in future tournaments. Could eek out some sort of deep bench role on an NBA team are be a solid NBL starter but I haven't seen anything to suggest he's going to be Australia's answer inside.
