2026 SA Juniors - What do you want to see?

With the basketball year now done, I thought maybe it would be interesting to see if posters had wish lists for what they'd like to see in the future.

A few ideas that have been debated for a while include:

Full Promotion/Relegation, including Divisions 1 and 2
Allowing clubs to have two Division 1 or 2 teams.

Changes to the timing of seasons, start dates, end dates.
Division 2 reverting to 1 hour timeslots.
Moving grades on to different days/nights.

Introduction of a structured 3X3 competition.

Limiting the number of teams in the competition
Limiting the number of teams from each club
Limiting the clubs to the 10 "member" clubs OR encouraging further expansion, allowing other clubs to play Division 1 and 2.

Moving Under 10s to Domestic Leagues (now with the AJDL announcement all 10 member clubs have access to a Domestic League)

Aboloshing State Champs
Moving State Champs
Restructuring State Champs

I'm sure there are other topics but I thought that could get some conversation started.

This is long overdue in SA - in no world should we have a team in Div 1 losing by more than 50. If clubs are worried that "if we dont have a div 1 team no one will play for us" I argue if you have a div 1 team losing by 65 points, your best 2 players will leave and next season you will be losing by 80 points.

Div 2 having a shot clock is amazing and should remain. Make no sense having div 2 with no shot clock. I would love to see a world in which maybe Div 3 has a 30 second shot clock. Something to make those games look a bit closer to the higher levels.. when you see some games being 30 - 45 and div 2 is 50-60 it shows that teams are content running 1 minute long offences that do not resemble "proper" basketball.

personally BSA made comment that games at SBC would be so Div 1 and 2s from the same age group could be seen together. I think the program being able to see each other peform would be great. lower divs get this oppourunity but the D1 and 2s dont.

100% agree but the democracy of the member clubs will never allow it - as the weaker clubs will lose players - only a few clubs will benefit and in fact get stronger.
Fact is move clubs if Div 1 or 2 is that important to you.

No I'm happy with the season timings and the days and when the games are played.

Introduction of a structured 3X3 competition.

Not a fan but if enough interest is there.

Limiting the number of teams in the competition

Basketball snobbery IMO - maybe cap it at Div 10 - give the kids a go.

Limiting the number of teams from each club

As above

Limiting the clubs to the 10 "member" clubs OR encouraging further expansion, allowing other clubs to play Division 1 and 2.

No - we are struggling to maintain competitive levels with member clubs.

Moving Under 10s to Domestic Leagues (now with the AJDL announcement all 10 member clubs have access to a Domestic League)

Not too worried here either way.

Abolishing State Champs

No keep them

Moving State Champs

No it's selection for classics and U14 club champs

Restructuring State Champs

Would like it to include a 3rd division again (it's been done before) - as age grades have grown a lot since it's inception - i.e. they have 6 divisions and only 2 divisions for state champs that were initiated years ago when a way smaller amount of divisions existed. Gives the kids an opportunity.
