Boti's BASA article

seems the volcano is showing signs of an eruption.

Board members being sacked then re-
instated, the leader breaking into tears (I can picture her on "The Apprentice" right now trying to explain the mess to Donald,

Fingers are being pointed in every direction....it is going to get ugly people.

"At the meeting they were clear they had no problems with office staff employed by BASA and that their actions were "not personal". But they are angry at the employment of a marketing team and frustrated at perceived administrative inaction on key issues affecting the sport."

Seems the fans concerns are not only known but now something is being dine about fixing them.

The online article is available here.

"The unprecedented unity of the presidents - who would not speak publicly - reflects the dire state in which the sport finds itself."

well, lets hope the turmoil behind closed doors doesn't make things worse on the court and cause something drastic.

Would hate to see Phil leave/cut or any of the main guys... might have to barrack for the Kings

It's quite amazing that this thread hasn't been "hot". Basketball SA could be in for the biggest shake-up in history and no-one is commenting. Jirachi, Libertine, Hoop Addict and others were is the fire?

Am i the only one asking why was the board reinstated after being sacked, seems a bit bizarre.

Why don't the presidents have a spokesperson, to keep us little people involved in the goings on.

How come we made a loss? How can we get the figures? Do the sixers make the profit as a lot of people assume. Or is it junior district and social ball that keep BASA alive (just)

If BASA owes 10.5 million and just made a 700K loss call me stupid but doesn't that mean we are facing bankruptcy.

Apparently they were reinstated as the constitution of BASA says that there moust be a board at all times and as the Presidents did not have people to replace the board they had to reinstate the sacked board.

I would have thought this topic would have been the biggest of the year too.....nothing more important than not having basketbal in the state.

What is there left to say? His article made public what has been known in basketball circles for quite awhile: the Association has massive internal problems.

So, are the presidents now working on putting together a replacement Board with a view of changing it over in the short term or will it be the status quo for another 12 months??

If you look at post 15123 you'll see the address to get the auditors report on BASA, but, if you can't be bothered to go there, here it is http://www.audit.sa.gov.au/03-04/basa/basa.pdf

Very interesting reading and should give some clues as to why the presidents did what they did. Hhhhmmmmm?????

Does anyone know the answer to this?

With the salary cap coming into place, do the clubs get to keep the money they have "saved", or do they have to pass it onto BASA?

Just read the report ( thanks to horse) and there are a lot of figures in there that do not make sense

28K for PA hire for the year? I would be getting the money back as the PA is not that good

2k per match on entertainment? Not seeing where that money goes.

Lots of questions

I think what will be interesting reading, well if your a finance person, is the amended forecast going out the next few years. Obviously there must be some concern over the validity of these numbers given the actual shortfall v forecast this year. A couple of the items are once offs but a significant number could be argued to be recurring. One intersting note in their forecast is that season ticket numbers will be higher than what is the current level (to be fair they are at same level as what they thought they were going to be this year and they did factor in some reduction to reflect the poor reason results of the 36ers) however they are factoring in ticket prices increasing by 3% pa for the next couple of years.

Reading through the audit now. Here's something that will be of interest to the majority of readers:

"As of 2003-04 in terms of participation it ranked twenty fourth (swimming first;
netball nineteenth; soccer twentieth; Australian rules thirty third); in spectator
attendance it ranked ninth (Australian rules first; tennis sixth; netball eleventh;
swimming twelfth); and in television viewing it ranked thirteenth (cricket first;
Australian rules second; soccer seventh; netball nineteenth)."
