I think it's only being televised in Sinapore which is a big help. Don't think it's on radio either. Sixers by 10. Crowd: 47.

Singapore by 11. Why does everyone think we can win without Maher? No structure, plus the odd 20 points that need to be picked up to cover him. Cant see it happening

Game Preview: Slingers vs 36ers

In New Zealand, the Slingers pushed to an early lead and will no doubt attempt the same in the familiar humidity of their home environment.

Adelaide's Davidson played with Singapore just last season and will have valuable advice for coach Phil Smyth and the rest of the team as to how best to handle the Slingers' tactics.
Keep reading the full preview

Tough call on this one. I wrote on OzHoops that I think that the 36ers can cover better for Maher than they can for Davidson, and that's not saying that Maher isn't the better of the two. Everyone at the Dome saw how much better the 36ers were with Davidson back in the line-up and I reckon he holds everything together. Supposedly our defense was good in Perth also, the game Davidson played prior to the last home game.

If he can handle Helms and everyone else does their job, I reckon Adelaide can win this. None of their other guards are name players and Ng, Copeland and Sutton should do just fine. Dench has been useful in past games, but played just three minutes against NZ and our frontcourt matches that of the Slingers (Knight, Janev, Cameron, Donaldson vs Ballinger, Mottram, Cooper) though they have 3/4 that can hit from range.

The X-Factor here is Grizzard vs Chappell. Grizzard may exploit Chappell a bit on defense, but if Chappell can step up and score, they'll take each other out of the equation. The season to date allows anyone to be a skeptic, but at some stage, if the side is serious, Chappell has to be playing for his job?

Adelaide are underdogs with the bookies but really can win this, with or without Maher. Singapore are two imports, Ben Knight and then drop off dramatically. Janev is OK, but the others are SEABLers going hard.

I think Grizzard will lead their scoring, while Ballinger and Ng will be best for us.

Singapore is on Perth time. The NBL website says game starts at 5pm AWST which is 7.30 pm here in Adelaide and 8pm in the Eastern States. My guess is the game is well and truly under way but NBL scoreboard fails again, and again, and again, and ..................................................

If someone has Chuck Harmison's mobile phone number, please call him and tell to fix the problem quickly. It may not be important to him but it is for the Adelaide fans.

Wow how impressing was the last 8 mins in the last Quarter for the 36ers? I guess the Slingers didn't have the answers & Helms to his standards had a very quite game. In the end tough win for the 36ers..they seems in all sorts of trouble with their foul count, however manage to hang in their and come out convincing winners at the end.

The man that the 36ers should all praise in Copeland he made it count when it all mattered.

"don't hear any Mike Chappell knockers now, how about some praise for the man"

I'm here brock. Good effort, probably needed something like that to keep his job - but keep in mind that he was playing against the worst team in the league - let's see him do that consistently against the better teams in the league, and play some defence and then I'll give him his dues.

However, more likely when the Sixers don't make the finals one of the major factors in their failure will be the recruitment of Mike Chappell.

This is a good win for us, Chappell finding his range and form, and a decent win considering Ballinger had a mediocre game by his standards.

Good to see Copes getting a decent score, love to see him retire this year after having a good season, deserves to go out on a high.

Hopefully this gives the team some confidence specially chappell and they can continue on for a few weeks, be great to have Maher come back into a winning team

Brock....its simply ABOUT TIME! Many knockers were only being negative based on the facts. 30 points and a win is fantastic! BUT this is the worst team in the league (based on the ladder), and he has been sickly overdue to do what we all now know he is still capable of.

Parents moved from Adeliade to Sydney 20 years ago so I wish the 36ers all the very best, however my heart is Sydney now and they are going to be the team to bet this season.

One good game by Chappell doesn't mean he's proven anythin!

He had a previously good game earlier this season against NZ!

Let's see some consistency, somethin like 20+ points per game every (or almost every) game

That's when i'll stop bagging him!

brock, I stand by what I said earlier in the thread.

Having Chappell playing hot and cold isn't a good thing. He had a huge game in NZ a few weeks back, and posted just 8pts with 5 fouls last week at the Dome. Tonight, he came out and shot the lights out again, with 30pts - 24 in the first half (hot), and 6 in the second half (cold).

Still keen to see next week's match. We could see another repeat of last week's home game, with his points only just exceeding his fouls.

Chappell is over-rated and when it comes to bigger and stronger teams he does nothing. He scored 30 points from a Slingers teams who is aiming for the wooden spoon..so until he proves himself week in week out they he will not get many knockers.

Great win by Phil, Stevee and Sapper.
I'm assuming that it was their fault because it is when they lose.

That will help his confidence (Mike Chappell , that is) been training well but lacking it in the games.
And same goes for Ng.
( Ballinger, will play a whole lot better here sat.)

To think I had to wait until this morning to get the results. Last night the complaints were against the NBL scoreboard problems, only to get it running and then a total blackout half way through the 3rd quarter. Was anyone else affected by the blackout? I went to bed last night and everytime I woke up in the middle of the night, my first thought was the Sixers have lost another game. Chappel wss great but only proved he is capable, not proved that he will continue to play like this. I agree with those who say he still needs to prove himself. Hope he does because its his input together with the rest of the team being fit and healthy that will see us making playoffs. What was worrying about last night's game is the fact that we played a bottom of the ladder team and still had our doubts about whether we could do it. Wins like that should be a given, not a wish.

If Shane Heal doesn't play this Saturday doesn't that mean that we won't be able too see him (or rather, boo him) again unless the we play the dragons in the finals? Is this his last season?

My match report is here

Slingers might be the bottom team, but that win is worth as much as any other on the ladder and they had to grab it regardless.

Interesting games next up in South and Townsville.

Cut Brett Maher
Years ago

By some of the logic and knee jerk reactions that are normally on here the sixers should also now cut Brett Maher.

Obviously that is tongue in cheek but the last two wins will mean that Axel Dench becomes a full time bench warmer barring injuries. I don't understand why Phil keeps forgetting that it is hard to go 9 or 10 deep. It first happened way back in 97 and 98. He tried to play everyone and no one knew what was going on - in the end Potsie and J-Will sat far more. Why does Phil need to be reminded of this every year?

Maybe he looks for value in all players and tries to do the right thing by them where possible with regard to court time?

Cut Brett Maher

You could be right. He might deliberatley run everyone at the start of each season to work out for himself who should be the one to sit (it seems he has chosen Dench now?). I guess the risk of doing that is you may upset some of the others in the process (unless the situation was clearly spelt out at the start of the season, ie "I can't play all of you guys, so you'll all get a share of the time for the first few games to prove yourself). Others would argue that the preseason is the time to do this!

Adelaide only got 56.8% of the defensive rebounds.....that's a shocking stat...For Slingers to get more that %40 of the offensive boards {for their offensive end} is huge..

I think most of the ten have good claims to minutes. e.g., you run Coops and Mottram and then both your bigs lack range. Sit Copes and then you miss out on those times when he gets rolling (e.g., 20 points last night).

What is with Mottram not scoring?

I don't know much of his game, however I personally thought coming from Europe he would be good for 10 - 15 per.

He doesn't seem to score 5 - 10.

Did coach Phil in the paper today say Mottram's knee was 'proppy'?
Did he get injured or has he been carrying an injury? I thought he has been looking pretty fit ?!?
