Love this quote:

"Andersen is already roundly regarded as Australia's most successful basketball player."

I would like to see him get back in the NBA again. I honestly think Andersen would fared better if he stayed with the Raptors instead going to the Hornets. I read where the Raptors did'nt want to let him go but were forced too to complete the trade.

My only fear for Andersen that once you get of the merry go-round it is harder to get back on. After Chris Anstey stint with the Chicago Bulls he was offered a one year deal with the Miami Heat but turned it down to come back to Australia. Anstey never returned to the NBA after that even when he wanted too.

The success they refer to is in regard to the number of championships he's won in Europe.

Yep Awesome Euro Career, Solid Player. Just need to see that at the Olympics. Only see him playing for the Spurs, Suns or Celtics to to age restrictions :)

He made it out of Frankston - he is a success, believe me!

haha anon good call.

Yeah given the amount of money, championships and longevity of his career he is probably the most successful current Australian player. If your talking just about money and individual honours, Bogut's obviously the most successful.

Yeah but Bogut is doing it in the big dance...

No comparison.

A dude named Luc Longley with 3 NBA championship rings might want to compare careers ....

Nah, in that offence you needed a guy with iq, Jordan ate dumb teammates for breakfast. Longley did well. Most successful definitely. Currently it is probably Andersen. Bogut has reached the highest and Gaze is the best.

Andersen is every bit as good as Bogut is. It's sad to see Aussies are just as delusional about the real level of the NBA as Americans are.

No, actually, it's pathetic.

Bogut might be our best player, but that doesn't mean he's our most successful. Seven seasons in the NBA and only one playoff appearance, plus the only individual award he's collected in that time is leading shot blocker once.

Andersen isnt nearly as good as Bogut, compare their performances for the national team. You can make a good case for more successful though.

"Andersen is every bit as good as Bogut is"

This requires no comment. You are an idiot.

The NBA such an enormous level above Euroleague, especially on the defensive end, it is not funny.

Tom Thibodeau, Doc Rivers and The Miami Heat would tend to disagree with you

Tom Thibodeau, Doc Rivers, Rick Carlise, Frank Vogel, Dwayne Casey and Erik Spoelstra would probably disagree with you on that point.

There is no doubt that a top Euro team could hang with an NBA team, especially in 2012, but the defensive strategies employed in the modern NBA are of a level of sophistication not seen anywhere in Europe, and they have the longer, stronger athletes to execute them. If you think a European side has the moxy or the athletes to cook up the different looks the Dallas Mavericks gave Lebron James in last year's finals series, or the team-on-a-string rotations of the celticss team defense is kidding themselves.

Anyone who says the NBA is a league of one-on-one ballhogs who dont play defense is either living in an And-1 mixtape or is developmentally disabled.

Speaking of developmentally disable, excuse the grammatical errors and double post above.

He also made the All NBA 3rd team despite missing several month after busting his elbow - so at one point in time he was basically recognised as being the 3rd best center in the world (I think Amare was the 2nd team C and he's really more of a PF so you could make a decent case that Bogut was number 2).

Exactly, Billo.

At the time of that hideous injury I had him pegged as the best defensive center in the league. You could obviously make the valid argument for Dwight Howard, but I thought at that time Bogut's full set of defensive skills (not just rebounding and shot blocking like DH) were superior.

Don't insult the man by even comparing him to Anderson.

Just isn't tough enough for an NBA career. He plays like a 7-0 SF

Euroleague, or the NBL at times, can appear to look like they are applying more defensive pressure because they run lots of full court presses, unfortunately, in the NBA, a full court press is a joke due to the athleticism and ballhandling skills of the PGs.

As I mentioned above, the sophistication of the team defenses of the top NBA sides are not seen anywhere in Europe. It's a cut above.

On the flip side of that coin are the NBA teams that play no defense whatever, however, to be in the top five or so sides you need to employ defensive strategies that are a class above anything employed in Europe.

Ask Brett Brown when he is in Australia whether Europeans or Americans have more complex defensive strategies. The American game is straight forward in comparison.

David Anderson struggled in the NBA because he was such a defensive liability, in Europe he is a star.

He is a defensive liability in Europe too. Luckily they have good schemes to allow him to play 20 mins a game.
