NBL schedules for teams 3rd to 8th

Melbourne 10-12, HHAAAH
Hawks (H), Breakers (H), Breakers (A), Crocs (A), Taipans (A), Crocs (H)

Wollongong 10-14, AAHH
Tigers (A), Crocs (A), Kings (H), 36ers (H)

Sydney 10-14, HAAH
Crocs (H), Wildcats (A), Hawks (A), Crocs (H)

Cairns 8-14, HAAHAH
Wildcats (H), Breakers (A), 36ers (A), 36ers (H), Wildcats (A), Tigers (H)

Townsville 8-15, AHHAA
Kings (A), Hawks (H), Tigers (H), Kings (A), Tigers (A)

Adelaide 8-16, AHAA
Breakers (A), Taipans (H), Taipans (A), Hawks (A)

Cairns have three games against the top two sides, Melbourne have two. Only Crocs and Hawks are playing their 3-8 rivals only in each game. Melbourne have Breakers twice, but three home games and some softer targets at the end. Destiny of the Hawks is well and truly in their hands with that schedule.

Man, Melbourne is the only team where it is even mathematically possible to finish with a winning record...

What a crummy season for teams not called Perth and NZ.

Townsville, Gold Coast, and Cairns squads from last year would smash every one of these sides IMO.

Melbourne and Townsville look like the best sides out of these after horror offseasons and first halves, but Townsville have dug too much of a hole, and have just come unvravelled once again.

It will be Melbourne and Sydney.

Quickie - there are scenarios where Adelaide lose to NZ and still make the finals. They rely on Adelaide ending in a multi-way tie with 3 other teams on 11-17. We get the head to head if those teams include Cairns, Sydney and Wollongong and we beat Wollongong by 23 or more in the last round (I didn't say the scenarios were likely, by the way - but Wollongong could lose another couple of starters).

Adelaide's problem is that if NZ and Perth win all of their remaining games, then the 36ers can't make the finals. Because we end up in multi-way ties that don't favour us. In particular, we are 2-0 up on Cairns and beating them in the 2 remaining games would give us a 4-0 advantage that is hugely beneficial in any multi-way tie involving Cairns and other teams. But if Perth beat Cairns twice as well as us doing it, that advantage is gone.

I wouldnt say the other teams have had crummy seasons.. They have just beaten each other to many times!!

If the top four all had winning records, and Perth and NZ kept their current records we would all be saying how weak the competition is because 7-8th would have won 3 or 4 games.

My view is that has been one of the more competitive seasons on record, with every single game leading up to the playoffs changing having the potential make up of the top 4.

I'm talking about the actual basketball ability of each team, not their W/L record.

Townsville stink
Cairns stink
Sydney are overachieving
Wollongong played the right way but have horrid injuries
Melbourne stink but have put together some form. No match for the top two though.
Adelaide stiiiiiink.
