Where will Jack Mcveigh go?

Where will Jack McVeigh end up? Saw him play recently and he looks tough.

To the weight room for a couple of years would be a good start.

I don't get why these idiots go to the AFL!

Is $60k a year as a rookie as part of some hopeful experiment really that appealing?

I can't recall one of them making it, and they're likely giving up a college place worth $80k a year complete with degree as the worst possible outcome.

Go to a good college please if you get the chance...

Please note, I'm not suggesting anything about Jack!

Good luck to him.

anon #662, you really don't get the whole thing, do you? Plenty of guys choosing footy over basketball because that's where the money is.

667, you local bogans just don't get it!. ask Bogut, Mills, Anderson, Baynes, Ingles, Newley, Maric, Nielsen, Dellavadova, Jawai etc etc etc where the money is. Australian sport is but a spec of dust on the global scene and AFL in particular isn't even a blimp.

Top 5-6 AFL players in the whole league only earning $1Mill..... Hmphhhhh.

Oh dear #676 YOU DON'T GET IT!! You are definitely no older than 13 to believe that basketball is where the money is. There are about 750 Australians making a living from AFL footy. How many Aussies making a living in the NBA or Euro? Or makng a good living in the NBL? (The anseer to the second question is zero by the way) The fact that you could list those who are making it proves my point.

To be an Aussie and make it in the NBA you need to have something that the tens of thousands of hopefuls over there don't have. McVeigh is a great player but is he likely to crack the NBA? Of course not.

You might want a reality check little champ, but thanks for posting.

Oh, and by the way, ask Scott Pendlebury where the money is. Or Dean Brogan. Or Danyle Pearce for that matter. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. All very talented basketballers who took the dollars on offer in footy, and its been all one way traffic for a lot of years. The fact that a few Aussies are making it big in basketball does not change the fact that in most cases AFL is where the money is.

Those college degrees have severe limitations unless you do an extra year or two at an Aussie Uni.

At least the AFL have programmes to help all their players prepare for after footy and give them the time and support during the season to take on extra studies...usually only a part time course.

NBL players seem to struggle to prepare themselves, with time allowed during the season. Would like a study done on the "afters" of a BB career in Australia.
Can't all be like Gaze who is now on the Fox Footy train.

Using Brogan and Peirce as examples of players that could have made it in basketball is incorrect both were average senior players and better off going to football.

#910, you still don't get it. Do you need me to type slowly so you can keep up?

The fact is there are far more opportunities at AFL to make a career than there are in basketball. McVeigh may well make it in basketball, but the odds are against him and chances are he won't. He'd be a fool not to look at an AFL offer if one came his way.

Basketball is a world game, there are obviously many more opportunities to make it in either Europe, Russia Asia etc than in the AFL. It's not just about cracking the NBA although that would be nice! Jack is much better off sticking with basketball.

I refuse to enter an argument with a moron

World population 7 billion

Aussie rules states aprox 15-20 million

Who wouldn't want to be injected with unknown substances then have the league be judge jury and executioner. Hirdy's record your health.

Other sports have professional codes.

OK you can stop. We get it, you're not real bright. Either that or you're still in primary school.

More Australians make a living from AFL than basketball. Fact.

The fact that you raise the world population as an argument proves you don't get it. More Aussies + smaller population = more chance of making a go of it. You are actually arguing with yourself, which is kind of humorous given that you refuse to argue with a moron.
