Do the nbl and wnbl use the same citing/tribunal system?

My query is what compels someone to do that? The other player is playing the game, crouched and preparing to box out. In what person's mind is it acceptable to blatantly smash a knee into them? Especially when your already considerably taller than the opponent! Cambage although a talent is a person of questionable character.

Players use this tactic all the time. While everyone is looking high players will use their legs or hands low on the back to push a player under the hoop. Same happens in the post.

Looks bad because it's Cambage and she's so much taller than her opposition but if you watch a game fairly you'll see it happen frequently.

Yeah that person above is right. Happens all the time. That's why numerous times every game you'll see players go to ground in pain and unable to play for 20 minutes. Story is totes legit and so is that tactic.

@651 - What a blatant misrepresentation. This is not about gaining position; its a dog act to hurt another player.

Dog acts to hurt other players don't 'happen frequently'; they're a rare occurrence thankfully. On the rare occasion they happen, they should be dealt with as per their policy.

Looking at the video, Cambage makes no attempt to jump because she's running forward when she lifts her right knee (the worst kneeing), and then continues to run forward and uses her left knee as a follow-up.

Yes, she's watching the ball throughout and can claim ignorance, but I bet she can use her peripheral vision like the rest of us.

I'd call it intimidation rather than clumsiness, and consider anything she says as unreliable.

Now it's over to the WNBL to show it has some integrity.

We've been going to Melbourne Boomers games for over a year now and I have to explain to my daughter every week about some act of childish behaviour that Liz does.

I hope the Boomers organisation do something to pull her into line beceause they're supposed to be the family club??

Straight out of X-Files this cover-up. Can't see the benefit in wnbl doing it, look at the controversy it's created already. Would have been less outcry if they came out and suspended her, if, and only if, they did try and cover it up, the person responsible is more at fault. Sure the knee was very bad, but worse things have happened, the person responsible should be fired and league act immediately.

WNBL star Liz Cambage faces ban after clash with Canberra Capitals' Mistie Bass

WNBL powerhouse Liz Cambage faces a potential ban after the Canberra Capitals lodged a complaint against the superstar centre following an unsavoury on-court clash that left Mistie Bass in agony.

Cambage is set to front a WNBL tribunal on Wednesday night and could be slapped with a suspension after her knee hit Bass in the back of the leg when the pair were jostling for position in Melbourne last weekend.

you are all picking om her because she is a world class athlete and DJ, is a woman and is non-Caucasian, she comes from an economic refugee family and is mentally fragile because of the bullying she received during her time in the severely racially biased Australian education system.

Actually , while all the above may well be true in respect of how most women in those situations have been treated , thats not why I view her in a bad light,

Her behaviour actually throws all those women who have endured and overcome those real disadvantages into a very bad light and diminishes their actual achievements against real adversity.

From my understanding, from more than a few sources, while Liz does lay loud and frequent claim to having endured the same disadvantages, and she truly and honestly imagines herself to be a Icon of triumph over adversity, she is really more a product of a privileged and self-indulgent background and has almost always taken full advantage of that background to the detriment off those around her. The world owes her and she avidly collects with interest

there are lots of people around sport like this, but its still a Bit sad really

But Jostling for position !!! BS, Liz lined her up from 5 metres away and took Misty out, simple, straight forward and non-debatable. But wait for post season and Liz will tweet about how she was allowed to be brutalized in the WNBL by the racialist refs, and how she was deliberately set up to get suspended by the league.

On one hand, it's pretty much impossible to prove someone's intent. On the other hand, it's pretty hard to justify that unusual movement as any type of normal basketball move.

I'm thinking that the WNBL will have no issues with suspending her for one game, since their next game is on the road in Townsville.
They'll hate the thought of more though, with this round being "cluster round", where every team in the league is in action in Melbourne.
So my prediction is 2 games reduced to 1 game with an early guilty plea.

People play 'illegal' against Liz? Perhaps a wider perspective - like watching other action in which she is involved - might be informative.

If Liz [almost] always played within the rules she might have at least a moral right to demand a little more understanding and compassion, but whoever said it, suggesting she is being victimised by opponents using 'underhanded, dirty' tactics is really rich.

If it is happening, which I question, can I suggest that it might be in an effort to counter Liz's illegal tactics, which strangely seldom seem to ever get called.

As evidence I cite the picture of the blatant offensive 'hook' published in SA's 'The Advertiser' a few days ago, from a game in which she was called for just two fouls.

All that said, there is no place in the game for blatantly illegal actions by Liz or anyone else, and in this specific instance there is simply no excuse for Liz's action, which based on the video was clearly an intentional, since it required her to break stride and raise her knee unnaturally to make impact.

To rub salt in the wound she then proceeded to charge to the basket and wipe out another player with a blatant body push that, like the knee, went un-called.

I'd suggest she is a protected species, not a subject of victimisation.

That is a pretty nasty contact.

Her eyes were following the ball so she could claim she was following the ball and going for the rebound. (but...peripheral vision) Her left foot was fixed and she could say she was moving from the side of the key to the top, but her body wasn't twisting to suggest she was and her left foot didn't rotate. Her right knee came across her left.

Looking at the footage (thank imgur poster) I think on the balance of probabilities there was intent to make contact.

Liz has no idea. She tries to champion a cause that she truly has no idea about. She has lived a privileged life that has had all of zero of the complications REAL black people face. And I can't stand how she throws the race card around that honestly she hasn’t earned. She is the last person as a black person I want speaking on my behalf.

Her spoiled brat behavior, perceived selfishness, and lack of awareness is not a representation upon what I want our race to be judged. People who kiss her ass because she’s tall and can dunk do her no favors. People who continue to give her opportunities within media, entertainment and basketball she has not earned fuel her ignorant behavior and inflated view of her importance.

She is a roll model to my children of how not to be in he world. So if you dislike Liz and her antics you are not a racist your are a good judge of the character she displays to those who don’t kiss her ass or live in her bubble. To be clear I am speaking of Liz the public figure, basketball player and media personality. Who she is in her private life could be different.

Not about being black enough it's about her being black only when it suits her. And @king I watched many an interview with her and she tried to talk about bringing awareness of racial inequality and racism.. Please. She’s as ignorant as any white person about that subject. She has no clue.

A few tweets here and there and a 2 min mention on a tv show after talking about spinning records for 45 minutes doesn’t cut it. She just needs to stick to her expertise which is selfishness and leave the civil rights stuff to people who have actually been through something.
I’ve been through plenty in my life and in no way would I act in the manor she does with those opportunities because I know the more people watching the more people judging. And instead of reinforcing stereo types you stamp them out. She would do more good by having role model behavior and turning the other cheek than running her mouth and having Twitter wars with other athletes.

When you have a public fued with an idiot, from a distance people can’t tell which one is the idiot. And with her latest antics she is proving Andrew right
