Should the NBL have a marquee player fund

Was just reading that the A league has a head office marquee player fund that they use to help all clubs sign big names.

Should the NBL have something similar where the luxury tax money goes into?

The a league article also mentioned that ratings went down after moving from SBS to One. Food for thought

No. The A-League has massive tickets on itself. Its trying to close in on thr AFL and NRL, but its going backwards. For all the media attention and sponsors it has, its really struggling and could drop off more when it needs to renegotiate its TV deal. Id expect them to reign in some of their spending.

If only they had the foresight to see how Ten/One handled the NBL, they wouldnt have made that switch. But no, the NBL isnt really in their sights so they had no idea...

Basketball Australia should

BA does nothing to promote the top tier leagues in Australia

BA should contract all Boomers ala Cricket Australia with Boomer salary being additional to NBA salary

It would certainly bring back our Euro talent

BA doesn't have a sugar Daddy like the FFA.

Take away the Lowey money and Australian soccer/football doesn’t really have much financial clout.

You can see why LK is putting his money into the NBL, rather than BA. Now trying to package a tv deal including the Boomers vs USA games with NBA players.

Lowey hasn't put money into the FFA in fact he has invoices them for his time

He brought the Gov $ to the table

No need. I think LK has stated though he's looking to exploit the one and done rule in college after the Ferguson success.

Slow build is better than having on old B grade NBA player for a season and rotating them in and out for a holiday.

The NBL has no enforced salary cap. A marquee player is a stupid idea.

There's no point discussing "improvements" of this nature, until the existing rules, or lack thereof, are clarified.

The only rules that exist are LK's.
