Bogut not happy with the Blitz officiating

https://www.foxsports.com.au/basketball/nbl/andrew-bogut-wasnt-happy-with-officiating-at-the-nbl-blitz-though-andrew-gaze-is-confident-everyone-will-adjust/news-story/8e1321246628bd372364a5cb615d71a1

Andrew Bogut pretty much has had an open mic since he was announced as an NBL player, and will no doubt be the person we hear most of this season. He doesn't tend to pull any punches, so does he get free reign, or will he be penalised for critcising the officiating like NBL coaches have been in previous seasons?

If they fine others, they have to fine him if he persists.

I'd also be reminding him that without fouls for contact, there is more and more contact that leads to another sort of game and one they've been trying to get away from for years. Let everything go, and you'll get the holding and grabbing that disrupted offence in the past. Given he's not athletic, can't really shoot and can't make free throws, he might want that style of game?

Ridiculous! Just because you aren't playing up to expectations you turn on the referees. Typical. He was lucky to not be ejected and still comes out and talks the refs down.

I have a feeling it will be a VERY long season for him.

Wonder if he will turn out to be exactly like his buddy Liz Cambage with all the ref whinges

How is this a headline? I haven't been happy with NBL officiating since 1978. It will never change

The thing I don't get with Bogut is why it's referees fault for calling too many fouls if the players are fouling.

He should have signed with Adelaide. Would have been perfect for him.

Bogut believes in Pizzagate. We should be hearing from him less.

Haha. I had forgotten/repressed the fact he was a pizzagater. Good Lord, what a clown.

Bogut obviously didn't do any due diligence. Of all the NBL clubs why sign for a basketcase Kings without a real coach. He continues to look dumb.

Is Bogut the he-Cambage or Cambage the she-Bogut? Either way they're both oh so dumb. And too dumb to realise it.

I would like to see Bogut, Jawai, Boon , Brand, jervis etc being able to be more aggressive inside. Fouls should protect guards etc but when its near the basket between big guys fouls should be hard to earn.

our refs blow too many fouls and Adelaide of all teams benefits from it incredibly. On an even foul count Adelaide would lose a heap more games.

Less fouls, more aggression, less stops to play.

Adelaide play hard and attack, that's how you draw fouls. Get over it crybabies, maybe teams should learn to defend Adelaide better?

"The NBL has taken steps to improve its officiating, which has been one of the its downfalls over the past few seasons."

Gee Olgun, that's a heavy personal opinion there. Bit of a clunky sentence to have in there

Anybody else notice Bogut's ejecting foul against Adelaide at the blitz? Head high forearm swing at a guards face which has seen previous players suspended or fined
Are the NBL willing to fine him for striking or calling out officiating?

That foul is mentioned. Says he would've been ejected in regular season

Well, Surprise, Surprise, Sur-prise!

Did he even bother to watch an NBL game before agreeing to play?
He is exactly the type of player that has always (well in recent memory anyway) received a raw deal from refs.

Did he think (in a country that loathes tall poppies) he would get special consideration?
Or did he just expect the reffing to change overnight?

So what's wrong with what has been said? He should be fined immediately. Speaking of fuckwits you're the Vice Captain of that team with AD the Captain.

Wright pretty much sat Hodgeson last year because he couldn't breath on court without getting a foul. Hopefully they give Bogut what he wants because you wouldn't want to stall his blossoming career.

Hodgson can't play Defence. He's flat footed, reaches, tries to block everything.

Stop blaming referees and adjust.

Bogut is right about the officiating. Everytime a gaurd drives to the basket he gets a soft foul. You will see this with Ware and CG Floppy 3 - if they can't hit the 3PG, they will drive to the basket, flick their head back with minor contact, and the Ref calls a foul.

The officiating is turning the game into a boring bunch of wusses.

Bogut, however is unlikely to win this battle against the NBL officiating because they have not listened to anyone for many years.

So if you can't beat them, join them. Gaze must send the Kings' gaurds to acting school, and as soon as you feel a slight contact, flick your head back, and get a foul.

Jumpshot the NBL set the rules not the officals/referees.

There's a reason for the way the game is refereed, to make it more entertaining. There are exceptions but the general public want to see guards slash to the basket. They won't if they can get hit on shots when they do. The administrators of the game change the rules to make the game more entertaining.

Because ... money. The NBL needs fans to continue to exist.

Also happens across all sports. Blaming the referees is predictably naive and misses the point entirely.

Agree. But ATM the fouls are too soft, and when in doubt the Refs reward the offence. This is not right.

IT IS NOT ENTERTAINING when the crowd, all the people at home, and blind Fredy can see it is not a foul. It is not entertaining when the foul is called the Ref furthest away and from the behind the play. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING.

Besides you don't need to score 100 points for a game to be entertaining. Look at how many people watch soccer.

It is more entertaining to see a game won by the best, fairest and strongest team. Not a team that does plenty of acting.

The pendulum needs to corrected to the middle.

As I have said before, perhaps we need to bring in a Video Ref, like every other sport. A coach should be allowed 2 challenges in the last quarter. Why not use technology when we have it?

Almost every international or import big guy who comes to the NBL gets frustrated with the reffing. I remember David Andersen visibly frustrated in his first few games with United.

Having said that, Bogut loves to complain. The challenge for the Kings was always going to be getting all these egos on the same page. Bogut is very outspoken, Randle has small man syndrome, Kickert is a horrible whinger too- there's potential for morale to drop lower than your 4 year old nephew winning the limbo competition at your uncle’s 60th.

For the sake of the comp, let’s hope Boges puts a sock in it and focuses on getting the Kings going, instead of worrying about the refs.

Funnily enough, after starting last season with a high number of foul calls, it ended up being one of the lowest years in NBL history for foul calls, despite all the commentary around it being too soft. The idea of calling it tight and making players adjust works and produces more attractive basketball.

The Point regarding Bogut, is that like or not, this is the way the NBL is called. He's simply getting the same calls that other Big Centres have to put up with.
