Iconic commentary lines

I was just thinking the other day what an enjoyable piece of commentary this was:

The situation: CJ Bruton, in his rookie season with Perth, hits a half court bank shot. It might've actually been his first game. I think at the Glasshouse.

Commentary: "...a half court prayer! Do you mind!?"

I particularly liked the "do you mind" part of the comment. Not sure what that actually means in the context of a great play but it stuck with me.

Any other iconic pieces of commentary that others can remember?

"This is grand theft basketball"

Stephen Quartermain after Lanard Copeland hit a game winning 3 against the Magic in 93.

The whole sequence actually was awesome.

All pretty iconic in my book.

I used to like it when Quarters called the gaze to Copeland alley pop.

Also when he said "sensational"

Mike Breen is the best commentator even. Breen and Mark Jackson together is pure ecstasy.

Hubie Brown is annoying (may be an unpopular opinion)- because he points out obvious stuff and always constantly says "in the painted area".

Iconic for all the wrong reasons is the Sac Kings commentator who always says what I think is the most annoying line so much so that I switch off any highlights with him commentating. He always says: "if you don't like that, then you don't like NBA basketball!".

Austin Carr the Cavs commentator is one of the best as well - his calls on Lebron's plays have been amazing. Doesn't really repeat a line from what I can remember but comes up with so many entertaining calls and the way he calls it.

P.s. if you ever get a moment, think it was Fred McLeod who called it, when Lebron dunked on Nurkic - the call on that is orgasmic - "Lebron turns the corner, INSIIIIIIIIIDE!" .."He made Nurkic a screensaver!".

When the NBL was on ABC in the late 90s or early 00s.

I paraphrase:

"Brett Wheeler and Paul Rees - two-headed monster, goin' at it..."

Classic!

Ralph Lawler (LA clippers): "the lob... The jam!" to describe alley oops

"Bingo!" When a guy hits a 3.

I think the enjoyment I get is his voice and delivery as much as the actual phrases

*just after Beal hits a deep 3*

"Anywhere withinside half court Jermaine Beal is going to be jacking... "

*Beal gets a steal mid sentence*

"...it up, he strips it away. He'll pull up again in transition. JERMAINE BEAL!"

______________

Beals record night was one of the best basketball moments I've seen live, particularly that sequence of back to back 3s. I just love the timing of the commentator saying he'll be jacking up anything inside half court, immediately before Beal steals it back and pulls up for a 3 on the fast break instead of driving to the hoop

Breen: "Cleveland is a city of champions once again".

My god that is one of the best moments - seeing that 3-1 choke happen and the whole building is in absolute shock and silence; and an emotional Cavs team on the other side.

Those are the types of moments in sports that stay with you forever.

Not really commentary from a game but I'll never forget when Eddie McGuire suggested that Adam Goodes be used to promote King Kong, only days after he was speaking out against a fan who called goodes an ape.
