Perth Wildcats appreciation thread

I've been the Wildcats' biggest adversary since I was born in 1927, but god.damn.it. They deserve this.

Could this championship have happened without the soul-crushing mid-season capitulation? I doubt it. A new resolve was built here, and thus championship is one which will have many behind-the-scenes stories about sacrifice and pivotal 'moments' that brought about the turnaround.

Special win, lads, see you in seven months

They won that with consistent effort across the roster. Team play for every minute of that game. Played both ends as a team. Trusted each other, whether star or role player. Have to appreciate that - fantastic basketball.

Looks like more Wildcats fans than United stayed back.

Very classy Melbourne United.

More classy than the Perth fans who booed during the tigers championship, especially gaze's speech. Speaking of classy, no acknowledgment of White to his opposition.

Well done Perth- clearly the better team in the end.

Benchmark of the NBL, on and off the court and have been for many years.

With Cotton, Kay and Norton locked in long term, they're set to remain a force.

Extra happy that the win involved getting one on the road, knowing what the narrative would largely have been had all the games gone with home court.

Definitely one of the most satisfying NBL championships. That's a quality team we just took down.

I liked Whites speech, wasn't the same old "thanks to the opppsition, etc, etc" that everyone says. Spiced it up with his (basically) 'F the haters this ones for you'. Showed a bit more heart and personality with it.

Perth was banned by the league from signing a 3rd import to help keep things somewhat close and interesting. They didn't want a finals sweep with 40+ point margins.

(Probably)

Kudos to Perth. They played like aTEAM which was focussed and adapted quickly to the way the game was being called. And Gleeson made Vickerman look ordinary.

The baseline play Norton executed twice today illustrated how well drilled they are.

Perth really are a brilliant basketball team.

Well drilled, motion offence with plenty of variations where everybody buys in and makes the extra pass. Even Cotton.

They absolutely smash the offensive boards too.

Their bigs are solid defenders who help, recover well on the screens. Near the hoop their whole team knows when to help across from the weakside. Martin, Norton and Cotton are brilliant defenders on the perimeter who also cover the passing lanes and create steals.

Gleeson deserves credit for how well they're organised.

"Gleeson deserves credit for how well they're organised."

Yeah Gleeson doesn't get enough credit imo. Can be a real flog at times, but is a great coach and gets results.

So often people say how he is just lucky to coach good Wildcats rosters and they ssve his ass, but then over the last few years we've seen stacked melb/sydney teams fail with coaches like demopoulos and gaze coaching talented sides and we all say "they could have won with a better coach".

Talent on paper can only get you so far, teamwork and great coaching is what takes rosters to the next level.

While White's speech did not acknowledge Melbourne Damian Martin more than made up for it with his class speech.
It doesn't matter if you're a Perth fan or not there wouldn't be many NBL fans who don't like him.
Class player with his 5 championships all at one team.

As for White it was a short and sweet message saying f... you to all the doubters.

Coach of the decade! It's the shit we go through all season and the shit we talk at least we can back it up!

The player's heart and the willing to do what it takes over an extended period of time is something that no other professional team in Australia has done. Also the nbl as a whole.

When you win you forget about the past 6 months but credit to every team and United!

1) I for one, am EXTREEMLY happy that if the cats were to win this, that they won it on melbourne's court.

2) Absolutely aree with these comments -

Quote ""Gleeson deserves credit for how well they're organised."

Yeah Gleeson doesn't get enough credit imo. Can be a real flog at times, but is a great coach and gets results. "" End Quote

all the above is true, however "can be a real flog at times" is an understatment.

3) if 2019 Goulding had played in 2018, adelaide would have won the championship IMHO. - He simply must have been injured ?

Goulding just wasn't in the series.

Most of his shots were one out with an opponent in his face.
