Kings v United Dec 26

232 years ago some codger plonked a flag in the ground and then proceeded to lay the foundations of modern Australia, whipping some poor sods as they went. Today, NBL fans will watch two powerhouses whip each other on court as the battle for the finals.

Kings are top of the table and travelling pretty comfortably at the moment. 10 and 2 at home is an indication of how well protected their fortress is and Sydney took the chocolates in round 9 by 10. Yes, they have a few players out at the moment, but despite that they are still travelling well.

Brisbane have opened up a nice little gap over the pack and so Dis-United run the risk of getting back into the 4 harder than getting back with an ex with a loss today. United are in the zone, the Danger Zone. Will they put on the tactical turtle neck and lay down some suppressing fire? or will they be better off spending their time by having a swim at Bondi? With 1 win from their last 5 games and last two being losses, there's a lot of hard questions being asked in the Land of Soy Latte.

Hard to see this going any way but Sydeney. Sydeney by 11

Kenny Loggins is playing in the background.

Which is kinda weird for Straya Day.

The real Danger Zone is well south of Sydney now btw. Any fair dinkum Aussie would avoid the drive from Melbourne to Sydney, but you could sip a few soy lattes waiting for your flight.

This should be a good game on paper, but...Kings by 20+ and put an end to United's season.

Fantastic write up as always. You should be put on a small fee for your great work.

Melbourne's last stand, need the win, got the talent, can they do it or the internal rumblings getting louder re disunity. Kings need this to possibly confirm the minor premiership even if they lose to Perth next week.

Kings by 3 if Bogut plays.

Why would Bogut not play? The load management wasn't only so he didn’t have to travel to NZ.

Kings to win the Straya day clash.
It doesn't get easier for United with the mighty Wildcats coming to town on Wednesday.

I'd be tempted to sit Bogut for this one based on how he looked Friday. Important game for us re: keeping #1 spot, but much more important for United in the context of the season.

Probably should try win this one and rest Bogut on the trip to Perth, win today and the Perth trip should be insignificant with game against Phoenix and Illawarra to follow, Sydney % should get it done.

I went to the game I've seen no stats so straight off the bat.
Bogut beat Long so easily and he’s in an A frame. Homicide got no idea on talent, he talks you up your better asking him to shut the f..k up.
I was 70m from vickerman in a noisy stadium and I could hear him yelling about United players not getting back on defence.
Barlow is a shadow of the player he was.
Goulding had a go but looks like got the shits, mainly because he just never seems to get enough ball.
Money making Mitch is highly over paid, probably had another good +/- game but no help to the team
Trimble had ago, even defensively but just isn’t that great.
Kidd again had a go, but he’s no star, works hard and is ok with the right team around him, which United haven’t got.
The rest not much to say but nbl1 is looking good for them.
United will say Ware left because Sydney paid to much money but Trimble wasn’t cheap and Long isn’t an asset. Why did they let Hooley or Moller as well is not unstandable as both were glue guys that played D.

Bogut is a giant of man, clearly playing under duress but so smart.
Kings are so deep and the championship goes through Perth, if Lisch and Moller come back in any sort of form and Casper plays like today there going to give it a shake. Tate find of the season.

United is a major disappointment.

The moment they finally had a full team, it all fell to pieces.

It would've really helped their cause if SEM got Cairns too. Not to be.

They'd be second favourites wouldn't they, LV? ;-)

"Money making Mitch is highly over paid, probably had another good +/- game but no help to the team"

Can you explain this one to me? The team does better with him on the court but he is no help to the team?

That was before Plumlee Paul.

As soon as they signed Plumlee I said they were almost equal favorites with Sydney.

If United wins both games this weekend they'll be back in 4th, depending on their winning margin against Brisbane.

Although this sustained run of bad games makes me wonder what else is going on. It's looking like is not just players who are out of form. Maybe they're disgruntled about something

^ United aren't beating Perth. They’ll struggle to beat Brisbane on current form.

On current form they wouldn't beat anyone other than Illawarra!

I'm hoping they recapture the form of their 6 game winning streak from earlier in the season.

Might need some luck too. Like Plumlee fouling out by halftime!
