The Adelaide 36ers are proud to announce the signing of second import and former EuroLeague star Tony Crocker for the 2020-21 NBL season.

The Oklahoma native and former NCAA standout from Oklahoma University, Tony's decade-long pro-career has included significant stints in the Basketball Super League in Turkey and the EuroLeague.

The 6.7ft, 33-year-old forward most recently played with Pinar Karsiyaka in the Turkish Super League and the Basketball Champions League as their swingman. During the 2019-20 season, Tony averaged 10.5 points during the COVID shortened season. He had previously played in the EuroLeague including for powerhouse Khimki Moscow.

I like it

34 in January, but with a long history in quality leagues like the Euroleague, VTB and Turkey, he should be a decent contributor.

Seems like Adelaide are going for role player type imports rather than studs.

Will it pay off well that depends on how good Giddey, Dech , DJ, Teys, Pinder and Humphries are this season.

C Humphries
F DJ/Pinder
F Crocker/McVeigh
G Dech/Teys
G Sloan/Giddey/Mudronja/Dillon

Maintain there's one too many guards and one too few big men especially with Pinder being a foul trouble type.

I reckon throw Giddey in the starting 5 and have Dech come off the bench.

I would start Giddey over Dech too.
Having Teys, Dillon and Mudronja all on same roster ..yikes

Overall stats aren't that impressive, but the highlights video below shows he can shoot the three well and has enough ball-handling/ athleticism to get to the rim if the defence closes out too hard. Could be okay if he reliably stretches the floor and plays good D. Not likely to be a standout this year though. Donald Sloan is going to have to star this season for the Sixers to compete with the top 3.

FWIW, Hulland, Diing filled in for the 36ers, I don't believe they are actually on the roster, even as DPs.

If i'm wrong, i'd be happy re Hulland, although he didn't play all that great for the Eagles v Sturt in the Grand Final.

Flash in the pan perhaps?

"Maintain there's one too many guards and one too few big men especially with Pinder being a foul trouble type."

Agreed KET. Anyone know if Hulland is a realistic chance to sign as a 4th big? Development Player perhaps?

Might get away with Hulland as a limited minutes insurance policy, particularly if they find DJ and Hunphries can't stay on the floor together for big minutes. If that happened, then McVeigh might see more minutes as a small ball 4.

Could be an interesting lineup if they ran DJ, McVeigh, Crocker, Giddey and Sloan together. Would be lacking in rebounding, but there's enough length there to be quite switchable on D and theoretically would open the floor up, with Giddey the only non 3 point shooter.

Dech needs to start. His defense will be extremely valuable. Could end up being DPOY.

Either Crocker or Sloan start.

Humphries, Johnson and Giddey the other starters

The JVG interfering in player selection will haunt you forever. Just like it did the Kings.

I think it's a solid but unspectacular signing. He's on the wrong side of his 30s and now knocking on the door of being within retirement range, but he has experience in the top Euro leagues and looks like he's still playing at a high standard. He would have been a very, very good import just a few years ago, but the league has got to a place where most imports have been around the NBA so this guy falls off a bit. But I think he's going to do pretty well. I still don't think Adelaide are a playoff team though.

Sounds like this guy will be coming off the bench as McVeigh's back up and yeah Dech has to start on this team.

Don't want to be nasty but if you are an import playing behind Jack McVeigh you are in the wrong league.

I'm thinking...

Sloan / Dillon / Mudronja
Giddey / Teys
Crocker / Dech
Johnson / Mcveigh
Humphries / Pinder

I'm seeing some strange lineups on here and the team is pretty balanced but it’s not a top 5 team. I have them at best 6 at worst dead last with 9-11 wins

1) Sloane/giddy/mudronja
2)dech/Dillon/teys/Harris
3)Crocker/McVeigh/Marshall
4)Johnson/pinder/diing
5)humphries/hulland

Zodiac, why do you think Barry might come off the bench behind McVeigh?

I don't know either way, but could see him starting at either the 2 or 3, if he outperforms McVeigh or Dech.

This is a new team though, so I am hoping nothing is decided yet and Coach Henry will give players a chance to earn their starting spots and roles.

He turns 34 next month and only averaged 10 ppg in Turkey last season? Not sure how he could start to be honest plus in Liam's analysis for the NBL website he already pegged him to be a sixth man for us.
