U16 champs without Victorian Teams

Current Covid19 Outbreak in Vic, coupled with WA's draconian border closures will probably mean that Auschamps will proceed without Victorian teams unless the event is delayed or moved. NT is only state with proportionate restrictions in place.

You would expect some kind of financial compensation be made by Warwick if BA were to move the tournament so late, to Darwin. The amount of work the club has already put in place would need to be vindicated surely.

The current situation is terrible for Victorian Athletes do not get me wrong, but the age old adage of 'The Show Must Go On' still applies here. See you in 2022 Victoria and BA Officials would then likely need to fly to WA in two weeks time to be cleared from quarantine in time for the tournament

Current lockdown will be extended.

14 day quartatine/border restrictions will remain after lockdown.

July isn't that far away.

New extended lockdown gets us to June 15th. 16s start July 4th. Cases increasing every day. Outside of a miracle you highly doubt Victorian athletes will be heading west as it would mean a three week trip at worst in the current environment (Two week quarantine then one week tournament). That makes it unviable financially and also expecting athletes to miss two weeks of school on very short notice.

As mentioned above, BA staff are likely going to have to leave Melbourne around that June 15 mark just so they too can go into quarantine and be out again before the tournament starts and to give them a couple of days lead in for planning etc. The only alternative if BA really do want Victorian teams over there, would be to move it to the October holidays.

Word out of Basketball Victoria, vote conducted today and U16s teams not heading West due to high costs of quarantine. Can anyone confirm this for sure?

This closing border within our own country is a disgrace. The states are acting like independent countries.
Covid will be with the world for years, our country will never ever be open till we come to the fact that you will have cases. To live with O cases is just unattainable.

Money on the last 3 anon posts being the same person.

Either a parent who's child now won't be attending or a nutjob anti-vaxer who still refuses to understand they lost, they're wrong.

Actually NO. I was the last post... I have had the vaccination!!

How the state government have so much power is beyond me. The federal government has none... and at this point all sides off government have done a crap job.

The federal government has control over the Country's border. The state Governments have control over State borders. Makes sense really. Thank god for the State Premiers or we would have been like the US and UK.

Just announced they are heading to WA on Friday to go into quarantine for 2 weeks prior to the event.

I actually thought it would be better if they went to NSW for 2 weeks and then flew across. Would have given families more freedom.

Not happening today as WA government declined Victoria's nominated accommodation for self isolation.

Absolutely disgraceful decision by WA. Previously approved accommodation requirements then backflipped at last minute.
