NBL1 Central Coaches 2022

Have seen advertisements for a few positions and rumours for others. Who will land where in the coaching merry-go-round?

Eastern - Rojo back but only thin ice?
South - advertised, possibly Scott Ninnis?
West - advertised, possibly Brendan Mann?
Woodville - haven't heard anything to suggest they’ll move on from Whitmore.
Centrals - Atkins moving on. Pero to jump in?
Southern - advertised along with their JDO role. Who wants the journey south?
Forestville - Andy safe as houses.
Sturt - Rigoni likewise and rightly so.
Norwood - rumours of Malat being released. Maybe back to KB?
North - wouldn’t expect any movement.

Off the mark with Centrals. Look for a junior coach from elsewhere to take that.

KB back to Norwood? Not likely.

Also won't be Ninnis at South

Pero's going around telling everyone he's got it. Of course you can never trust what he says.
And 100% KB not going back to Norwood, major bad blood between him and the family. He might surface at one of the other spots though.

Is Pritchard safe at Eagles?

Did Atkins choose to leave or was pushed. I thought he did a good job

Curious as to how much these coaches get paid.

Does anyone have some actual knowledge of what any of them are getting?

They get paid very little, it's more for the love of the sport.

Wonder how short Rojo's leash will be. Been carrying on like a pork chop for years, just can't help himself. If he gets the flick from Mavs, can't see him getting another gig, even as assistant.

Anywhere from 5-10k is my best guess for coaches payments.

If not Pero then maybe Jantke?

090 I am also 085.

Clueless you say? trust me, I can tell you first hand that is the going rate.

I'm guessing you're one of those guys who is in some fantasy land that NBL1 in SA is a big deal. I could tell you for a fact that at least two of the men's coaches in the league are coaching for $0.

#085 is on the money (pardon the pun).

$10 k would be the extreme high end. Most below $5K. Some at $0.

Thank you 108.

The reality is that this is largely an amateur league and people like 090 have a hard time accepting that.

It's amateur in payment, but the hours and workload is high. Do all that work and then get ripped into on Hoops.

Interesting on Jantke
Think senior coaching is the next step in his basketball journey
Reckon he might be a chance at South, especially if Hulland Mudronja and Hoppo are there next season, 3 players he's has a lot to with as juniors
Watch this space

Jantke isn't going anywhere unless he's guaranteed to win. He'll stay at North until another club gets some strong groups coming through, then he'll go.

Most coaches I know are on around $3k - 5k a year. I do know a coach who got $8k. I know no coach at NBL1 level who accepted the role for $0. Utter madness if true.

120 there was a coach on $0 this year. I won't name him because it's none of anyone's business but it is fact.

Jantke would only go to a club that matches his drive vision and ambition, which is why he will stay at the Rockets.

McLean will stay at West. No reason to move on from him.

South the best job available - willing to spend and a very low bar to jump over.

Rumours of friction with Corey at West might see a change. Might be good for him at another place, I'd pay his salary just to see him at Norwood and the fallouts there.

Whitmore had to go, hasn't achieved much at all and had his favourites in the team whom really didn't perform for him.

How can Norwood get rid of Malat when he steered the team to a GF appearance?

Jantke could only coach a team provided it's the same guys he flogs on about from the old Sturt U18's team...Lol

Interesting comment about Marcus knifing Turnbull over the NBL1 Sturt Women's coaching position, wouldn't surprise me - the guy is untrustworthy.

As mentioned in previous posts in terms of payment. She won't be getting $0, strongly doubt $5k, would hover around the $10k.
And just saw the WNBL season is set for November to April. Now we all now it won't start then, and I can't see them doing a bubble again. So will need a good assistant to get team ready in absence. And Central's aren't exactly flush with great senior coaches.
So a good hire, but can see problems.

Herrimann continuing at Centrals, see they have picked up a couple players for the womens team. Also heard they had big numbers at Junior try outs...someone must be doing something out north.

Anyone willing to coach at that level in Adelaide is obviously not doing it for money.

A lot of coaches have teaching backgrounds. It goes with the territory, and is a good background to have.

A day's pay for casual/TRT averages around $400-450 for experienced teachers. SA stopped calculating different rates years ago, to simplify things. So maybe $300-350. Based on that, you would only need to work for 2 solid weeks, or 1 day er week for a term, to earn about as much. I’m sure tax would be... different. I wouldn’t do it for money, but there are other motivations.

So who are the new coaches at South, Norwood and Southern? Which club got the best of the new coaches and which coaches start the season on the hot seat?

Hermann

All coaches start season equally positioned. Leave Spud alone a great servant of a great club.. he plays with a spirit not many can encapullulate. Has great bball brain so age not a factor. His smarts get him many credits. Until someone steps up and takes his spot spud is bester option. Will led from the front. So many want to legends to quit too soon. Club legends like Spud deserve respect for keeping on and keep producing..
