Ingles shoves ref in melee, gets ejected

https://www.theroar.com.au/2021/11/12/wild-scenes-as-joe-ingles-shoves-a-ref-is-one-of-four-ejected-in-nba-brawl/

Kinda think he thought the ref was one of the 'grey shirt guys. It'll hurt his pocket but wasn't that bad.

I love all the randoms that run on the court to break it up, that's how massive brawls really start.

It's not a good look, Toby Green weeks for less.

Nothing in it. Extended arms. No push or forceful.push..just keeping people at arms length. Much ado over nothing...no blood no problem ..just getting up close and personal all round...agree intruders on court.where and why .

Wow. Just wow.

What's the NBA precedent here?

If this was AFL, he'd be gone for 14 weeks for that.

Didn't look that bad to me, hard to see without the close up angle.

Sporting bodies vary wildly with their handling of these things

A quick google suggests the NBA and G League are quite lenient with ref pushing. He should be fine.

He's pushed a referee , this will be more than a fine.

It did look like he thought it was a security guy/grey guy but he didn't seem to push just try to separate for a fleeting moment before turning his attention to the other group.

Worth a fine? Yes - suspension? No imo.

Toby Greenes looked a lotttttttttt worse!

Ingles running into a double handed shove, far worse than a slow walking bump by Greene

Maybe it's cos I've been raised watching AFL and still remember the Greg Williams incident, but I always thought umpires/refs should be completely sacrosanct and any interference deserves suspension

Don't think that's the standard in NBA though

Yep found a different highlight on ESPN of him ramming in. The other ESPN video didn't show that.

He’s in trouble there that’s for sure!

The big difference for me is that in AFL the umpires do not get involved in the melee, they just stand around on the outside and yell at the players to think about their wallets. If you are going to get in the middle of melee/brawl and start grabbing at players then you run the risk of getting touched in the confusion. The no touch concept needs to be a two-way street so officials need to leave the attempts to break up the brawl to team officials or security it is not their job to do that.

It's Ingles, hardly a terry tough nut. That will keep him in good graces, especially as the ref was actually laughing when he got back in frame of the video. If it was Boogie, it would be career over, but it’s butter soft Ingles so maybe a game suspension at worst

$30,000 fine for Joe. Lucky that's all it was.

the ref testified that he didn't believe it was intentional, that's the only thing that saved Jingles
