Who do 36ers replace Randall with?

Heard that they have spoken to Adams.

A PG would make sense but a legit Defensive centre would be a better target IMO.

Adams mentioned yesterday that he most likely wouldn't be returning to the NBL (per daily telegraph), although massive for the sixers if he does!

Adams to 6ers? What does McCarron do? McC and Adams, that's a lot to pay your PG(s).
We all waited for McC to get right and he did. Now you want Adams to do what?

A combo guard

McCarron needs support at the point.

Needs to be a reasonable outside shooter. Not necessarily lights out, but fairly solid- as none of McCarron, Dech or Cleveland are great shooters. But should also have the ability to run the point.

In all honesty, if the Sixers are rolling with that championship or bust approach, maybe throwing money at those NBA free agents like Trey Burke/Quinn Cook maybe even combo guards like Kriss Dunn, Mudiay or Elfrid Payton? Would Sykes be willing to return?

It's funny I thought Trey Burke and Randall had similar games. If he’s open to it would be a great like for like switch.

This. Put McCarron alongside another quality 1-2 and it will bring the best out of him.

Obviously people are talking a starting guard, Liam Santamaria thinks a bench guard.

I'm wondering - what about a defensive big? Doesn’t need to be an expensive stud or anything. Maybe even someone that you expect to play 20mpg or so.

Instead of going small ball, go big but still run and gun.

Import PF/C and Sotto share 40 minutes
DJ and Franks share 40mins
Drmic, Cleveland and Franks share 40mins
Cleveland, Drmic and Dech share 40mins
McCarron and Dech share 40mins

So you look at DJ/Franks not being on their own without Sotto to deter or an import interior defender.

Franks covers slides down to SF for periods, Cleveland plays a Kawhi type of SG/SF.

More opportunity for Dech and Drmic - imo they are starting 5 level.

More ball movement hopefully, I think Franks at SF is less of a defensive liability. DJ having protection is a must.

Marshall can come in for some minutes if MM is fatigued, Harris can come in for some minutes if the bigs are in foul trouble.

Galloway can come in for some sprint minutes if they play extended defence trap to utilise depth and tire out the opposition.

It's a catch 22 KET. Need a defensive big and a real PG.
Can Sotto protect the rim and defend on a consistent basis?
Can McCaron be aggressive and actually improve the team. Highly unlikely.

I really don’t know what position is needed more.

McCarron was point guard on a championship team.

He's been one of the leading assist getters the last few years in the NBL. He's not flashy in terms of beating people off the dribble with pace, but he is more than capable of controlling the tempo, running an offence and ensuring others get good shots.

The issue is more that no one else is a point guard. Dech, Drmic (and Randall) are specialists in other areas.

There was a game recently- vs NZ I think? Where Randall had multiple turnovers around the mid court when trying to over dribble and run the offense. Randall should've been coming off screens, or catching the ball later in the offense and taking his man one on one.

I mean, unless Marshall is capable of playing 5-10 minutes every night and giving quality contributions. Is he?

And not only that, but an overall back court of McCarron, Marshall, Dech and Drmic just isn't championship quality in my view.

A championship player on a stacked team with both highly effective offensively and defensively players.
While not his fault, he's getting paid to be a star player. His numbers have actually either stayed the same or gone slightly down since leaving Melbourne.
Pick n roll offence just doesn’t work. It’s always a pass to the perimeter.

I think people are right about it being a kind of catch 22, but I think Adelaide should live with the problems they've created in the front court and find another guard. Can understand the point of not needing a star, but would certainly take Adams if they could make it happen.

Sotto is doing ok but would like to see what Acouth can do just playing a simple role next to the start players. He looked ok in his extremely brief appearances so far.

I don't want to sound too harsh on him but Acuoth is a terrible player just like he was at Sydney and SEM. He's got the height and length that he should be factor but he's so weak and thin and pretty much scared of any sort of physical contact plus I don't think there is great deal going on between his ears.

He's fools gold has been everywhere else and there was a reason he fell out of the NBL last season and played in Georgia.

The Sixers clearly need a defensive big to mop up and cover for DJ and Franks. The blasting teams off the court with exceptional offence plan wasn't working with Randall and probably won't going forward either. A defensive big like Pardon would be ideal.

On the PG front we can't really replace McCarron we have to ride him and hope he doesn't get injured because if he does we will be in a world of trouble having to start Dech at PG with also no back up PG either. I think we've got to cross our fingers on that one and go after a defensive big.

The United side that Mccaron was a winning point guard is totally different to the Sixers side of today. Landalale was the centre for a start, compared to Johnson and Sotto.

Think the 6ers should look for the most efficient defensive combo guard they can find. Don't need a star, need a Cleveland-type combo guard. One that can take care of the ball when McCarron is on the bench and can hit the open shot when surrounded by DJ, Franks, etc.

There was mention of Kobi Simmons but obviously majority of posters here didn't jump on that boat too quickly. Has not been mentioned elsewhere as far as I can see but would be a good signing.

A lot of similarities offensively between Landale and Johnson.

Most likely the 36ers will sign someone who's familiar with the NBL. They have guys on there list but I don’t think they pull the trigger until after 2-3 games without Randle to see how the team looks & needs moving forward
