Something during FIBA qualifiers

Is there a solution whereby the NBL doesnt go dormant for over a week for the WC qualifiers to keep the NBL/basketball relevant?

The T20 cricket WC finals are filling a gap in sports media but otherwise its a quiet time of year.

I agree but the BBL in Britain only have one game on for their round. The NBL could of at least had Melbourne United verse someone?

Assume he means teams without Boomers players eg United vs Brisbane or NZ

Only Perth and Sydney are heavily represented. With Adelaide, Illawarra, Tas also supplying players

You get the point anyway

The Tall Blacks are playing. Lost to Lebanon by 12 this morning after a horrid second half with a team consisting of largely NBL DP or end of benchers (you know you're weak when Smith-Milner’s your go-to).

Should try and get G League Ignite or Overtime Elite out here to play a team of young NBL guys and Next Stars during the FIBA window. Two games and then one more against the Global Academy.

Actually Global Academy likely too young?

There are seven nbl teams represented, that being tassie, SE Melb, Sydney, Adelaide, Illawarra, perth, NZ.

Therefore Brisbane and cairns have no players out and Illawarra is only 1 player down. If national teams were selected long enough ago could these teams play a round robin of three games or could this round be a floating round?

If international games were being played in Australia then give all NBL teams a rest.

1 week of no games is not an issue. The next window is during the playoffs or at least possibly the tail end of them being late February

I think the FIBA window has worked out brilliantly in terms of NBL not competing directly with the tail end of the stickball. It's not my thing but it seems to be a big deal, according to mainstream media, for a lot of people.

I'm looking forward to THE World Cup in less than two weeks time.

Some players probably glad to have rest to nurse some niggling injuries. And not sure what teams are requiring, might be good for some interstate players to head home for a couple of days.
Something that hasn't been brought up in a while is a state of origin tournament. Clubs wouldn't release their star players in case of injury etc, but maybe they would like their bench guys to get a run, or even out of form. Maybe have 2 pools of 5. SA, WA, Tassie, far north Queensland combined with NT, South Queensland, country NSW/ACT, Metro NSW, Vic Country, Vic Metro, New Zealand. Not sure how talent pools there are, but locality could provide support. And have local players from local leagues as fillers, maybe restricted to 1 import that may have played previous nbl1 season in that locality.
Have the prelim games shortened as a blitz, 2 games a team per day. Then top 2 from pools crossover as a final 4 and full game rules apply. Rest of teams playoff to whatever formula.
Have teams coached by a local legend player, preparation would like an all star game, just a couple of actions and a practice or two.
And have a reasonable cash prize per player, eg 10 grand per player for champs, 5 for runners up.
Could be great to see some of the bench players show their stuff and even highlight guys not signed. Nbl1 programs aren't in full swing so won't affect clubs, and players could get some decent pocket money as well as bragging rights.
It's full of holes, but can fill the gap, guys that are glued to bench and only really train can get actual game. And again, showcase some local talent, would have been great to see someone like Jason Dix pull on the croweater singlet.

Heard Gaze say on 1116 SEN that the Boomers may forfeit against Iran in Tehran. I know China is also playing in Tehran so be interesting to see how that match goes. The game was meant to be behind closed doors. With Iran getting the walkover win means they will qualify because Kazakstan have Australia, Japan, China then Australia in Australia.
