All Australian Basketball League

Interesting news from Melbourne Central Basketball Association (who run basketball at MSAC, including Melbourne Tigers). Very interesting to see if the concept takes off.

Anything is better than the NPP & SDP junk that is served up by Basketball Victoria run by the so called High Performance Head Coaches. Just wait for BV to try shut it down.

Sounds similar to what I've seen out with lakeside and their saturday comp.

"with all games being held at MSAC Saturdays between 11.30am - 1pm."

2 x untimed games on each of 4 courts? So looking for 2 leagues of 8 teams?

"ELITE PLAYERS

So a tier below rep, and want to make sure the extra game the rep players take part in don't mean the gap gets wider? Or fees for 16 more teams?

"ELITE COMPETITION
The league offers offers a hybrid American-Australian style of play."

And ABA ball? Maybe Tigers colours instead?

"A fast paced, physical game that allows for the game to flow and players to showcase high level skills."

Iso heavy?

Sounds like the intended style of play is completely at odds with the Tigers style of play (shuffle). Likely to be dominated by selfish players.

Obviously it will be a money earner for the Tigers, and I expect a lot of interest based on what they promise.

Thinking longer term, if this league is preparing promising players for the US and professionally, might the players have to sign a contract so that Tigers also get financial reward if said players do go professional or to the US?

The domestic league sounds like a feeder to their US tours program.

In my experience, Aussie kids going on most US tours are somewhat misled about whether that will create any interest in them for future US college scholarships (hint: it will not).

Agree DeepWombat. It says that it is not-for-profit, but I expect it employs people and no doubt will involve US tours where people will make some money. They are fun, create great life experiences, but that's what people should think of them as. If anything comes of it beyond that, we’ll great.
