Jackomas parts ways with Hawks, Justin Tatum head coach for now.

Interesting- thoughts on whether this will achieve anything?

Overall record of 5-32, per ESPN. With that said though, I feel as though he didn't really get a fair test as I'm not sure he had the quality of players as comparable to the rest of the league.

There is no doubt that Tatum knows basketball but the nba is a very different beast to the rest of world basketball including the nbl. I think Jackomas probably new his time was up so got out, not certain what influence Tatum has had on team so far, has he just sat back and watched, if he's actually been coaching already I’m not expecting much improvement then, if not let’s hope he plays the younger guys who actually play hard and not just the media favourites. Olbrich should get more time which is good. I’m looking forward to see if hawks can remove the basket case they are at present.

It's a coach's job to get the most out of their players. He had no structure offensively and defensively and the players knew that. Not up to it.

His record is 6-32. ESPN probably didn't count the game he coached while Goorjian was out due to covid. He got the win that game.

Commend the owners for doing what is needed. They clearly put the head coach in the frame as being responsible for performance " The leadership of the team and the direction the team is taking are the responsibilities of the head coach"

If I were the NBL clubs , would be reluctant to offer any new coaches more than a 1 year contract with maybe a second year option. If you are worried about an untried coach leaving, just roll the dice. Recent history proven most new coaches have generally failed at NBL level.

A proven coach , of course, is one you spend the money on with long contracts.

Bizarrely the Hawks just gave Jackomas a 1 year contract extension in the off-season putting him under contract until 2026.

https://nbl.com.au/news/jackomas-extension-headlines-hawks-coaching-group

Effectively 3 years remaining on his contract.

It's starts at the top, it’s not just on the coach, this is a team the media think is good, it isn’t, yes it probably should be doing better but who really is top shelf on that team and don’t say Sam Froling, because he’s not in that elite bracket.

Hopefully they go after Gleeson or bring back a fan favourite in Bevo.

Yep, can't understand why you'd extend someone so prematurely. Do feel for him as never nice to see assistants struggle, but obviously the right move.

Adelaide need to move on Gleeson before he is taken. If not, lots of good local coaches out there who should be in The NBL.

Looked like a fish out of water since day one.

Having said that, interesting timing on giving him the sack given his contract. Why fire him before you have found a better replacement? unless that think Tatum is going to do a better job in the interim.

Hopefully Tatum can get Harvey and Robinson to pull their heads in. Harvey is getting worse with every year he's been in the league and his shot selection is atrocious.

Jakob Chance, Rhyce Carter, Luke Brennan , worked with Gleeson. Chance under Gleeson, Roth and Vickerman, Carter under Vickerman for a few seasons. Lemanis and Goorg of the older brigade and bevo if he was interested.

Judging by an appearance on commentary earlier in the year I don't think Gleeson's first preference is to be back in the NBL. Mentioned wanting to try America or Europe first from what I recall and even then I reckon he'd have enough offers around the league that he wouldn't need to take Adelaide's offer as a first choice.

So basically if he did sign with Adelaide it probably means Plans A through X have failed for Gleeson and I don't see the 36ers having that sort of luck.

Being an assistant doesn't always lend to being a good head coach. CJ, Jackomas just recent examples

If it's the Chiba jets in Japan it’s where John Mooney plays, very structured coach, all about D. Not the best league to prepare for the Olympics.

Feel sorry for Jakomas but he was out of his depth and his long time being with Goorijan proved that he would be a good Assistant Coach.

Talk on Facebook bring back Bevo or Flynn.

Bevo would not be interested and Flynn would be a worst decision than Jakomas.

Flynns time there was a bigger disaster.

Lets see how long the Comets connection stay around now they have a new Temp Coach and will possibly get a new one next season.

Interesting Goorijan said he was sounded out 2 weeks ago.

They would not have spent enough money on a team amd have quality players for Goorijan to come back but he would be loyal to Jakomas I think and he did not exactly leave on good terms either.

Jacob Chance deserves a crack, don't think it will happen this time around with Illawarra. feeling they have been burnt by an untried Head Coach and will go for a name.

What about Mat Campbell?

This is the man that gave Illawarra Matt Flynn and Jackomas.

Shouldn't he receive some scrutiny?

Re coaching carousel, throwing it out there that I just listened to a podcast where Steve Woodberry said he genuinely wants to come and coach in Australia.

Woodberry hasn't had a coaching job for like 2-3 years now in the US, so probably not a surprise he'd start sounding out coming to Australia if he really wants to get back into coaching. Pretty sure that was the exact same situation Connor Henry was in too, and he was exactly the same as Woodberry is currently in that they were working as a scout for the T'Wolves.

Interesting the way The Age reported this - suggesting that the players didn't follow Jackomas’ game plan in the second half against Cairns, which is why they lost, and quoting Ex-Hawk Damon Lowery that the players should be ashamed of themselves and suggesting the coach was made the fall-guy.

Tyler Harvey certainly should hang his head in shame. He's been putrid this season down 5 ppg on last season.

14.1 ppg @ 36% FG (30.8% 3p), 2.1a, 1,6r

Connor Henry had to nurse Giddey through his lack of D to get him into the nba, job achieved, had JVG trying to tell him who to play and other road blocks, took his pay and left. Imo it put Sixers behind the eight ball and they are just starting to see the light. He seemed ok, his time out on over dribbling was classic but 100% true. No one knows how he would've done if he was able to get his ideas through, certainly on D.

It appears Tatum is starting to pull the ropes tighter for his role and there will be players who will not and deserve not to play.

Most importent he will find he does not have the right asst coaches as it was a Comets boys club for the Assistants roles.
