Not shocked.

The Sydney Kings announced on Friday that the team has agreed to part ways with head coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah.

Abdelfattah was named the 17th head coach in Kings' franchise history on June 21, 2023, following stints with the Houston Rockets (NBA) and Rio Grande Valley Vipers (G League).

He coached one season for Sydney, placing fifth in NBL24 and registering a 13-16 (0.448) record.

Sydney Kings CEO Chris Pongrass thanked Abdelfattah for his service to the team.

"This was an extremely difficult decision to make - however, we have an obligation to our members and fans and felt a change was needed," Pongrass said.

“We would like to thank Mahmoud for his contributions to the Kings organisation and the Sydney community as a whole.

"He is a well-respected and talented coach and it was a pleasure to work alongside him this season.

"Mahmoud’s character, work ethic and constant positive outlook cannot be questioned.

“We are grateful for everything he has done this season and for the impact he made on this club.

"We thank Mahmoud for his commitment this past season."

Do Sydney go Goorjian or Gleeson or go American again?

Gleeson is the word on the street.

Re MA, always came across as a decent person, his team was nowhere near as good as previous two season championship teams. Results mean everything though.

Does Gleeson keep Hunter or Bolden ? For all you cats supporters.

What a load of crap from Pongrass with his comments.

Saying what a good job he did etc.

If he did he would still have a job.

Absolute load of BS.

Don't get Goorijan,that would be a disaster.

So obvious this was going to happen. From players to coach there wasn't a connection. Bad error by the Kings not going locally, G-League coaches don’t work well in the NBL. Completely different style of plays. Benching Glover was a big mistake, karma got the Kings!

NBL Now says Kings have internally discussed Goorj and that a decision on HC will be made sooner rather then later.

Gleeson's name not been raised for the gig.
