Jazz get Al Jefferson

yeeeah baby, someone to fill the void Boozer left, a bigger body over 6"10 ;)

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to send power forward Al Jefferson to the Utah Jazz for center Kosta Koufos and two future first-round draft picks.

definitely makes the jazz a whole lot better!

considering we only gave up two first rounders and Kosta Koufos to get him think its a perfect move from Utah.

Wow. good trade for the Jazz.
Their roster is shaping up nicely, they just need to go out and get a good starting 2 man.

D.Williams/R.Price/S.Gaines
W.Matthews/? (CJ Miles?)
A.Kirilenko/G.Hayward
P.Millsap/ Jefferson
A.Jefferson/M.Okur

Too bad they lost Korver..they need a shooter to spread the floor.
Got some depth at all positions, except the 2 spot. Could start D-Will, good 2 man, AK-47, Millsap and Jefferson or they could start D-Will, good 2 man, AK-47, Jefferson and Okur.
Only worry is their defensive ability especially in the frontcourt. Jefferson and Okur have been known for getting exposed defensively.

Good pick up for the Jazz, not only does it fill in the void of Boozer, but will help to rest Mehmet Okur while he recovers. good for jefferson too, now he's on a team that can actually win more than 15 games a year :D

I like this for both teams, crazy I know but I think its a samrt move by the T'Wolves. They wont be competing any time soon, they will never get the talent to contend with Miami in the next fwe years. This way they can save money and stockpile draft picks to make a run at it in the next 5 to 10 years, seems a long way off but Miami will be a force nobody will beat.

good call your mum .

some teams i feel sorry for who arent going to be competing any time soon, who in the past 1 or 2 years everyone has been saying will compete in the next couple of years, and out of all of them it appears that minnesota are the only ones accepting that. ie.

okie city
nets
trailblazers
bobcats
grizzlies
rockets

and soo on...

so this move is smart for both teams.

and the jazz could switch their motive to ronnie brewer in case matthews doesnt turn out .

and they still have kyle forsenko !!!

Surely the Thunder taking the Lakers to within a heartbeat of game seven in a playoff series means that they are already "competing"?

Wow, the Timberwolves don't have a player earning more than 4.7 mill a year...

You honestly thought they were competing for a championship last year , I would have thought they were still developing young team who had a much better year than expected , and shown great signs for the bear future . !

Noone was contending last year against la Cleveland or Boston or Orlando

Finally the Jazz get a shot blocker in the paint!!!!

Al Jeff is not a shot blocker... he might be the best low post weapon in the NBA - but he isn't what you'd call a shot blocker...

But a win-win trade... Minny needed to free up time/space for Love (and B-Easy) - and not take on any more players... Utah got a piece that might just get them over the hump (or closer to).

Minnesota going down the OKC path. Stockpiling draft picks and keeping a cheap roster.

All they need now is the 'Durant type' of player on the roster...

Here's hoping that Ricky can be that guy... No one wants to be like the Denver Nuggets of the mid-90s...

Ahhh, what happened to reports of getting him for just draft picks using trade exception? :|
I was waiting for Koufos to have a breakout year :)
But still, good trade. Now need to focus on getting a 2 man, don't match the offer on Matthews, go after Brewer who is coming off injury and works well with D-Will, should get a good deal for him.

Utah VS Miami Grand Final 2011! XD

The word out of Minny is that Koufos is just passing through, with Kahn and his agent working on making it so... Apparently.

Hey, jazz-fan DJ, can you pick a new alias? We already have a DJ who's been using that name on Hoops since the beginning.

Raja Bell has turned down the Lakers and is signing with the Utah Jazz.

Jazz looking pretty good!

Mst admitt the Jazz are looking very very good now. Milsap struggled to get minutes when Boozer was there but was pretty damn good when Boozer was injured. Adding Jefferson gives a very good post presence and now adding Bell gives them that outside shooter they lost when Korver left but is a much better defender than Korver.

LC,
whereabouts did you hear/see that?
fantastic news for the jazz! Means we dont necessarily have to match Matthews offer, if we could slide a cheap deal for Brewer that would be awesome!

So what did the Timberwolves end up getting for Garnett? A couple of draft picks?

About the same as the Cavs got for LeBron?

Sota did a lot better than a couple of picks.

They got Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, the return of their own future first round pick that was initially traded to Boston, and a future first round pick from Boston.

Sure those players never stuck and/or panned out, but at the time Jefferson was considered a stud, Ratliff had a big expiring deal, Gomes was an upcoming role player and Telfair was an average point guard on a rookie contract.

The 'future first' turned into Wayne Ellington in 2009.

Gomes was flipped as part of the Portland trade to get Webster.

They let Ratliff expire.

Jefferson got flipped for Kosta Koufos, the Memphis Grizzlies' protected 2011 first-round pick (obtained by the Jazz in a previous trade) and an additional future protected first-round pick.
