WABL: Into the future

With the Hills Raiders entering the League next year, where do we see the biggest need for further clubs to get more kids playing the sport across the metro & country areas in the future? I would think it would be great to get some kind of reincarnation of the Swan City Mustangs out of the Midland / Swan View / Bassendean area; Then you would think given the growth in the northern corridor, there would have to be some kind of scope for a club out of Butler / Alkimos in the next 5-10 years. Would there ever be scope for a Geraldton or Albany to get WABL teams in to further improve development in those regions

Geraldton, Albany etc would never get teams in the current wabl.
Not possible.

Wabl might branch into
Southern, central and northern. Long long way away though.

Gero and Albany are to far away from their competitors Ten hour round trip every other week for 32 mins of Basketball is just not feasible. I think families would try it and burn out after a year or two. Doubt it is sustainable.

A new association should be formed at Pinjarra. It's practical for other teams to travel to and they have the population around the area to support it.

If it did happen, it won’t be long before they overtake the Magic in WABL as they have just been a basket case lately, much worse than usual.

Establishing a new association is rather difficult. There are areas that are well serviced by existing clubs and areas that are poorly serviced. Focus on the poorly serviced areas like Ellenbrook and Armadale. Maybe some of the existing poor performing clubs nearby can boost their member numbers rather than establishing another club that will struggle to make ends meet

"Maybe some of the existing poor performing clubs nearby can boost their member numbers rather than establishing another club that will struggle"

Therein lies the problem as I know a poor performing club that is hell bent on reducing member numbers judging by their actions, they consider themselves exclusive.. so exclusive that no one can wants to play for them.. literally!

And that is why we will never consistently compete with the Vics or QLDs with people like yourself always not willing to expand and make our kids / competitions better. Either get on board and start approaching WABL with a can-do, positive attitude or go fulfill your inner desire to play other sports like badminton or floorball. If QLD can have a competition including Cairns, Townsville, Mackay & Rockhampton in one conference, then there is no reason why we can't have Geraldton & Albany involved with WABL

Yes it is like that in QLD but won't happen in the Wait Awhile Basketball League.

I think That North Queensland comp only includes 3-4 regional teams and is played as a multiple games over the course of 3-4 weekends. You could already do exactly the same thing here amongst Albany, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton without changing WABL. State Champs already runs as a smaller version in that format. The existing weekly WABL format works better for the existing 13 teams though.

QNJBC
Cairns
Townsville
Mackay
Burdekin

CDC
Rockhampton
Hervey Bay
Bundaberg
Gladstone

BQJBC
South west
Gold Coast
North Gold Coast
Sunshine Coast clippers
Sunshine Coast rip
Logan
Brisbane
Ipswich
Northside
Southern districts
Toowoomba

I would say in time qld will branch into 3 distinct north, central and south.
North = Cairns-Mackay
Central = Rockhampton-Sunshine Coast
South = Brisbane-Toowoomba-Gold Coast

Bringing in Hills Raiders hasn't grown the sport. There will still be four divisions in each age group and 10 teams per division. It is the same number of teams and kids spread across more clubs. If WABL want to increase the number of clubs any further they will also need to create more slots to accomodate them.
