Whatever it cost was bad value for money. They were hopelessly outclassed by the Hawks. Their offense has that familiar rushed shot style, three point reliance and ineffective on ball screens. They beat the Hawks twice during the season but will be lucky to avoid total embarrassment next weekend.

Its a shame braun and timms are no longer available for kalamunda as they would probably get over the wolves in the first round if they had them healthy and playing.

Suns were up at half time with a very very thin roster and 1 good import. Probably more fair to say a fantastic import.

Wolves got it right in the 3rd quarter and pushed the game out of contention but with the roster they have it should never even be that close

Utley has done an outstanding job with that team

2019 Suns under Utley = 13 wins 13 losses. 8th position on ladder. 1 game out of 7th.

2018 Suns under Clarke = 10 wins 16 losses. 10th position on ladder. 2 games out of 8th.

2019 Suns Aussies largely the same only they lost Kerrod Horn who was averaging about 12ppg. the 2019 team did pick up Easley who averages about 6ppg but got an additional 5ppg out of Timms than the 2018 team did this practically made up the loss of Horn.

The big difference between the 2019 and 2018 teams is the production from their imports. Blake played the same amount of games as Belger did last year as did Braun vs Davis so its a comparable sample

Giants have been a basket case for the last few seasons and burned through coach after coach none of which could get them back into playoff contention.

Had it not been for Bowie getting injured and missing a number of games later in the season they would have finished higher than 7th. I would have projected top 5.

having good imports doesnt make you coach of the year but it takes a good coach to recruit them in the first place and then get the most out of them while they are here. getting them to buy into the culture and system and be team guys is certainly a product of good coaching

name a coach who has recruited better imports this season?
Geraldton have sent 2 home, Willetton also sent 2 home and missed playoffs. Magic struck out on their replacement for shabaaz. Kalgoorlie changed an import right after the blitz. Hawks import comes off the bench. Cockburns Milam experiment went wrong. Redbacks debacle with Demunyk cost them. Probably the most stable combinations outside of Kalamundas imports is Stirling, Rockingham and Lakeside none of which are performing to the level of blake and braun.

Maybe utley does have a case for COY?

Flames Men choke yet again. Seems to be a huge problem with that men's program down there year after year. Doesn't matter who the coach is, the culture has to change down there if they ever want to be serious contenders.

Nix is safe for at least another year. Has a very young group but will be vying for a top 4 spot again next season. Poor form by D Black running an offense with 18 seconds left in game up by 30+. Show some sportsmanship doccy for heavens sake. Senators need to be taken seriously on the Women's side. Do they have the depth though to challenge the Lightning

Funny how the wolves are happy to call out others on their unsportsmanlike behaviours and then 24hrs later have their mens program doing the same thing with Ettridge calling a timeout with 30 seconds to go up 30 to an undermanned suns team..

Usually Etto has the stronger teams and still cant get it done, this time it may be the hawkies who have the better list.

WSBL QTR FINAL LOSERS.

SUNS - deep down I think they would be disappointed in not winning a finals game this season. a very talented starting 5 . they need to find an inside presence and some more depth. also having your second import come in late does not help your position on the ladder. tom Knowles has been at the helm of this club for 3 yrs with limited success.

TIGERS - really good to see some of their local players step up gandini, winter, kelly etc - they deserved to get a win in one of those games to reward them for effort. synder was solid , bibbins was a flop and this was the piece they needed to get right. parker will continue to do a good job at tigerland.

MAGIC - they will be disappointed that another opportunity has slipped.
particularly this year with having 2 imports and carly boag playing as a non-restricted player. its time for this team to turn over some players,re sign boag and re-load. dunkemeir was seriously a bad choice with palusna leaving left them undersized , lucky brown fell in their lap because they would have missed finals - coach watts ?

WOLVES - biggest disappointment of the year - recruited 5/6 players outside the club - totally destroys that clubs culture doing so. the girls who come before him had great culture and team harmony - that's gone. to lose steindel and kidner is significant but if you have good structures in place you can still be competitive. 100 pt combined loss to hawks ouch! coach nix ? wow

good luck to the remaining 4 teams left.

Nix may be under pressure in 2020, if the rumours about the 60k are true. But Wolves did finish 3rd and lost their best player mid season and the back up big two thirds into the season as well, I'm sure he won't be too stressed re the pressure

Pressure maybe more on Redbacks and Slammers coaches, they'd be sweating more than a fat man wearing a tracksuit in a sauna. Slammers bought two imports and Redbacks bought an import and an opals player, imho those teams missing out on finals raises more questions than Nix "only" getting his team to finish third. 60k to finish 3rd and have a shot at playoffs vs 45k to finish 9th and be poolside on an early vacation, what's more wasteful?

Nix got his team to hold that third spot without great players, so clearly he is a great coach, whereas Slammers and Redbacks had great players and missed the 8, clearly they weren't coached well and perhaps their coaches could do with more time developing under a great coach like Nix. I think he'd take one of them on as an assistant team manager if they asked, me thinks at least one of them will be on the look for a new job

One may reasonably ponder where to from here for the Redbacks?

Perhaps the season's most underperformed club, across both programs, particularly given recent finals success +, and a lack of junior volume alongside the poor club order and cohesion means that the better days are some way off in the distance.

Maybe a cautionary tale of picking the battles you can win, rather than those that you simply desire to fight

Technically if you include their long period at Loftus they have had three stadiums but none have ever been big enough to call a home and they have never settled somewhere long enough for a council to fully support them. I can see a merge with them and the Eagles soon unless something dramatically changes as neither can survive much longer based on very limited development and dwindling finances / members

Redbacks and Eagles are in a similar situation regarding a stadium. Should meet in the middle and have a team named Highgate. They could pressure BWA to share Bendat or lobby the Perth City Council (who appear very lobbyable if you've got some folding) to build something that would accommodate a big club and represent the City of Perth.
I remember BWA's big push to have Stirling and Eagles amalgamate, but it had little traction. Hard pill to swallow for long term club supporters, but it worked in the AFL where the history and tradition are far stronger.
It would certainly strengthen the competition, and that's a thought BWA should embrace.

Can't see the Hawks allowing anyone into their zone at Lords to run a domestic comp. Loftus is just far away that it doesn't worry them but given Lords is on the same stretch of road, nope ain't gonna happen.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and in retrospect, the Redbacks should have investigated the Lathlain Park option years ago when they had the chance to almagamate with the Demons and create Perth Sports Club on the old car park. Right on the train line, still in their heartland and they could have easily has a six court stadium with plenty of room for shared offices and parking to boot. The only other option is to head back to Curtin and hope they consider adding a showvourt onto their existing facility to make it a four court complex and add some permanent offices from there. Both Vic Park and Herb Graham are nothing more than band aids who's best years are, like the clubs that play out of them, well and truly in the past and it seems only a matter of time before those clubs fold if the stadiums themselves dont collapse on them first

Lords is run down and only has 3 courts, and is operated by City of Subiaco. There is no chance of anything happening there.

With BWA senior domestic on weeknights and Hawks juniors on Saturday, there is simply no way another association can be based out of Bendat BC. Hawks are just a lucky bunch.

Redhage won Perth the Championship, let's not make any other inclinations about that one please! Spent a decent amount of money on both mens and womens programs this year for absolutely zero return. Now Nik has seen the writing on the wall that the bank is all but shut and thought, cool now it's time to be a family man and all the best to him with that. But in terms of CLUB, here are the alarming figures. You have 74 junior domestic teams spread across three suburbs and a large footprint of the inner city in Vic Park, Belmont & Leederville. Given none of these areas are threatened by other WABL clubs, that teams figure should easily be in the triple figures but its not. You have an under 16 and 18 combined girls domestic division with only FIVE teams - 5. How is that supposed to encourage and develop into strong WABL players. No sign of an under 14 girls competition at either centre either. And then there was the classic double booking of stadiums on Sunday forcing visiting wabl teams to have to drive to belmont to play because your full time staff couldn't do their job and book all the courts at Vic Park. My son's team arrived at Vic Park at 8:30am for a 9:00am game only to be told it would now be at belmont at 8:30am. I thought that was bad but then found out there was a poor Rockingham team who really drew the short straw and were playing before us at 7:30am, which meant coming from so far away you would imagine they got to vic park at 7:00am to be told sorry, you have to drive 20 mins east of here. Your lack of on court success as a club at the moment is only overshadowed by the trump like boisterisms that all is fine and well off the court when it really couldn't be further from the truth. Do what is best for the club and start to have those conversations with East Perth or you will end up like the swan city mustangs: non existent within the next few years.

Swan city mustangs merger with the kalamunda hornets to make the kalamunda eastern suns was the most recent merger i can recall. whilst they arent the strongest performing club in the competition they are stable at least.

mergers arent always the answer either. Stirling was in big trouble as a club until churches of christ took the reigns. they now seem to be on a great path with their new direction and didnt merge with another club.

Oh Kobe always here to fix our mistakes. If only your mum had fixed hers and swallowed rather than what she did do hey! Yes 9:30 was the time and we hit all sorts of traffic on Archer St for no good reason through Carlisle on a sunday no less. Turns out some elderly woman forgot to give way at a roundabout and the accident caused the stock standard perth 5kmh drive by for the next 15 minutes. Anon I totally agree regarding Stirling but their one big difference outside of having prime real estate to expand on, was that they already had a four court stadium they called their own. Was it run down and in desperate need of a makeover, sure; But they had a decent foundation to work from. Perth and East Perth do not have that at all. 3 court stadiums strongly limit growth, and when you are just a user in terms of stadium management, you also have to share those limited facilities with your netball, indoor soccer, volleyball, floorball, badmintons of the world also. If I was Perth i'd be putting a proposal to the City of South Perth to upgrade the George Burnett Facility on Manning Rd. Direct freeway access, huge room for development to make it a five or seven court facility, no parking issues with nearby sporting fields, be the primary tenant of a new stadium within their zone and open up to a bright future not too far from their current base at Vic Park. If I was the Perth President / Board, I would definitely be putting alot of energy into that proposal

One count of sexual penetration with a student over 16 in his care

Using a position of power to have sex with a person under the age of 18 in your care is so much more than just a massive mistake, it's disgustingly planned out and done knowing full well the consequences if caught. Ask around in both Kalgoorlie and Geraldton at the moment and the rumours are rife that this was not an isolated case for him. Do they dig deeper and look at Broome or his current position with Seda? The general consensus is this is literally barely scratching the surface

Why would no ex cougars get a coaching job? Prefer to give it to an Ex-Willetton guy again would we? Cougars would have no issue signing Grant Davey to coach the team.

I really wish that these matters would not be put in the public area until the person is found either guilty, or innocent. I believe our Law states a person is innocent until proven guilty and that is not guilty in the media but in a Court of Law. You destroy the lives of good honest people without knowing the full extent of the story. There is so much more to this story than meets the eye. Obviously the young lady was over the age of consent, did she or did she not consent to the alleged sexual act. Did she instigate the incident if so she should take responsibility for her own actions. Did the actual alleged incident take place and if so does the young lady know exactly when or is she herself unsure. Like I said so many things that are not put into your story but the devastation is still the same as the disgusting animals who actually deal with underage children.

Sadly the we have become a society that castigates people but the written word of the media, who are not always correct in their assumptions and who love to make a story look far more important than it is.

Please people, this is someone 's son, husband and father, he is a good man who has achieved amazing things in his life, why can't we be told of some of those things. I am not family by the way, just someone who is tired of the Media's castration of the truth for sensationalism.

"Cockburn was doing just fine in the years past....."

LMAO.

The stadium was a shithole and kids were walking out the door. One family had control of the juniors and destroyed the competitions due to ego and a dictatorial attitude.

Financial situation was dire, being kept afloat by loans from past board members. Cash flow was negative.

Turnaround started with the Harris board and continues now but its still along way back.

Doubt the new stadium ever happens. A move to Cockburn ARC is the only hope I would say.

Anon 142, would you feel the same way about "achieved amazing things in his life" if this was your daughter who has accused him, I doubt it. Regardless of if she gave him consent or not, the question will be did he use his position of power to influence her giving consent. I also question what happens if other students are also named as supporting evidence during the trial. Experience would show that stuff like this doesn't go to trial unless the prosecution has some fairly solid evidence, regardless of what Heron has done on the court this is what he will be remembered for now.

craig Reynolds had a lot do with the recruitment of this team .
boag, burrows, duffield all went to rockingham because of him.
Duffield has sat on the bench all year behind petrick , she probably wishes she stayed at lakeside.
however she may end up with another title.
you say how would craig Reynolds be feeling , how about ambar land she has carried the senators for the last 5 years before moving. I feel sorry for her to be honest.
who would have ever thought st-de jorre would reach a grand final.
well done to dagastino for blending this team together .
barr, howard, villegas, hepburn, roscoe, bourke all new to the team from last year and it may pay dividends - surely c-o-t-year.
darcee garbin surely would be in the best 5 players to have played WSBL in the last 10 years, roscoe back to back ?
great grand final coming up - my prediction is stirling by 6 . rocko will not be able to contain howard and barr.

Didnt Rockingham beat the Senators up at Warwick by 20 odd with Howard and Barr playing like two weeks before the finals? Yep cool story mate! The question is how does Warwick stop the Big 4 in Garbin, Allen, Boag and Ciabbatoni? I think this will be alot closer than their previous encounter but still predict Flames to get their third title

Mens game is a fascinating one. Can the seasoned legs of the wolfpack contain the young studs in Ducas & Lasher for the Buccs. Ralph is also due for a big one and wouldn't it be a fairytale if he and Wunders can finally taste the ultimate success whilst giving Ettridge his fourth consecutive loss in the decider! It is interesting to read comments about Flames coaches. Do these people actually know what happened? Samuelson was actually the one who coached most of the Rocko SBL boys when they were very young up until they started playing SBL. And yes he was definitely back stabbed. Won the WABL Cup every year! How many Rocko mums and dads will be congratulating or commiserating with their daughters after the GF tonight. Not many as not very many Rocko girls even playing in the team. SBL was somewhere for clubs young juniors to aspire to play but now it is all about the money and which club can steal other clubs juniors. Sad really as winning a premiership means very little to the club afterwards. Cockburn men won and then the next season the club was in all sorts of financial difficulty! No gains in winning SBL premierships sorry! Clubs seem to have forgotten their juniors which is very sad.

Samuelson was a great wabl coach who couldn't transcend that at sbl level. Some would even say he struggled at state team level given some of the teams he has had, but he's not the first in either of those categories and definitely will not be the last either. For the poster who said clubs don't care about developing juniors, you only have to look at the Flames to disprove that statement. All of their Men's team this year outside of the imports, Robbins and Hire are all local Rockingham products. Their women's team have Garbin, Hetherington, Cooper and Wheki plus a couple of younger fringe squad players with talent. Many other clubs are the same but you need those highly skilled players who might necessarily be from your club to be competitive in the League, that's just the facts. Best of luck to all four teams this weekend and hopefully my Lightning can be back there next year

Purple and Black I think the Rocko men's team is generally still Rockingham apart from Greg Hire and Brad Robbins (why would you bring an injury ravaged Brad Robbins in anyway?) and a few young fellows from Cockburn for now and has always been the case and that Club has always tried to keep it that way for the women as well but as another poster mentioned, I think you will see the dollars come into play next season for the men as well as they only want to win a Championship and don't care how they do it. You may see a few of the Rocko men pushed aside in favour of whoever else they can entice down the freeway with the big bucks. It is not so easy to get other clubs players to go to Rocko due to the travel. Mandurah and Bunbury also have the same issues.

We get it. Earnest 'The Boss' Ross. You don’t need to say it every time he touches the ball. Commentary if woeful.
Feel bad for Maxy snapping the ankle

Agreed with posts above, commentary compared to last year last year was a severe let down (I didn't watch the women's so can't comment). Giving players nicknames to try and sound cool and what was at worst biased commentary towards the Wolves at every opportunity was poor form to say the absolute least. Mr Bowler - go with what works next year, not people trying to out-do each other with special nicknames and who can seem more excited into the microphone more when a certain team score, you're ruining an otherwise good product with mediocrity on your biggest stage

Where's all the awhooing now? Four years in a row you can't get it done on the big stage. Word is the walking ego was advised he would not be head coach next year either at some point in the past month. Explains the link to Alava's company. Do Iliadis and Salinas retire? Thoughts going out to Maxy on a speedy recovery too. The big bad wolf looks alot more domesticated tonight. Congrats to the Buccs who clearly wanted it more. The emotion shown by Wundenberg, Ralph and Hunt post game shows how much this meant to the local boys. That will be one rocking bus back up Brand Hwy tomorrow morning

The Buccs definitely wanted it more, were higher energy and deserved the win.
But that had to be one of the most poorly reffed games I have ever seen

We got the infamous four-peat ladies and gentlemen. 4 different teams in 4 years. Can we go for 5 next year? Who will be our prevailer next year? Rocko? Lakeside? Only time will tell

Wow, four losing Grand Finals in a row now. Oh my.

Wolves brass seriously erred by persisting with the GF choker for as long as they did. What an absolute waste of money. #cashburn

Couldn't have happened to s nicer bunch of guys. Toss who grabs his crotch and talks trash to fans. Canid he who went to 4 different schools cause they all didn’t want him. Ettridge got a taste of his medicine tonight by Wundenberg not shaking his hands based on principal. Bought not built. So happy for Geraldton.

Oh yeah they had some nice beef didnt they.
Etto talked it up and failed to back his words. Awesome.
Hahah sucked in Etto universally hated in the league.
4 in a row this really is classic stuff.
Everyone joked all year abt it but no one actually thought it would happen.
He must be sacked by midday.
4 in a row have a think abt that.

He'll put his spin on it saying it showed their excellence making it to the grand final 4 years in a row. Aside from etto giving us a masters degree these past four years in the art of choking, how good was it to see wannabe post malone do absolutely nothing against the physical way the buccs went about it with him off the ball.

Congrats to the Buccs! Great send off for Wunders who has been the club stalwart for so long. Not that I'm sure it's his last season but why not go out on a very big high!

4 in a row.
One is bad.
Two is terrible.
Three is uncomprehensible
Four is... four is...

I have no words.
Im all defeats were favourites and 3 of the teams were missing imports and key players.

Get the youngest child you know and have them witness this, they may be the only ones rhat ever live to see this again, its once in a generational stuff!!

I won't be throwing the toys out of the cot like you lot. Yes it’s incredibly disappointing to lose 4 in a row though I’d rather be in the big dance than watching from the sidelines. We have a club that is successful off court and this doesn’t happen by accident. Chill out.

What does off court success entail? Money taken off juniors to pay juniors taken off other clubs. Perhaps disgruntled members and coaches of junior teams. As usual the Joondalup spin is full of shit.

I watched the SBL Final on the "Live Stream"
Very well done by the way. At it's peak there was over 1.5K viewing it.

Gero looked like the better team the entire game beginning at the initial "jump ball" when Gero had a easy Dunk.
Lasher/Hunt were the best on the court. You could tell who wanted it more. ( Davis / Ross should pay all there season's wages back for the performance on Saturday night )

Love seeing the country boys showing what it is like to play with heart!
