For those who understand the game at any lever above.... Cause NBA... It has been obvious that Lemanis hadn't showed anything other than basic sets in Canada game one and then has been slowly adding stuff since. Kay tonight showed exactly why he's there. Top perimeter D from a big is vital in international ball.

Lemanis had to
1/ find a way to minimise their scoring runs
2/ eg add press
3/ takeaway the mid range shot
4/ fix rebound count
5/ adjust rotations = every possession counts

Pop added a half assed press and expected to win.

Pop 1
Lemanis 1

The "Lemanis out-coached Pop" argument surely can be made after the 2nd game. USA still put up points, but our defensive scheme was significantly better than game 1. USA didn't make as many significant adjustments. Considering USA had time to study the Boomers from game 1, they had their opportunity. Lemanis's changes were better.

some people said nba role players should not be picked automatically before nbl players because they are not necessarily better than nbl players.
What a load of crap.
Mills, baynes, delly, jingles, Bogut are all nba role players and without them the boomers would have been thrashed 30 points by team USA today.
Can you seriously pick an all nbl team and compete at international level ? No. It is sad that lemanis dont pick the better players like green , adel. Instead we are stuck with passengers like sobey, kay and gliddon .

I seriously don't get the Lemanis hate, he took to boomers to within one dodgy ref call of a medal at the last olympics and just Coached them to a win over team USA for the first time in history.

As for thanking patty mills for the win, he was absolutely amazing of course. But watch how those buckets were scored and how mills gets free to make them and most are run through great offensive sets with Bogut playing distributor at the high post, designed by the coaching staff.

Geez even pop was giving him huge raps for his coaching

Any one that thinks that Lemanis shouldn't be the Boomers coach is a fucking idiot!

A little harsh? Maybe.

This is the same guy who took the Boomers within a disgraceful call (or two) of winning our first ever medal at the last Olympics.

It’s also clear that our veteran players, Ingles, Mills, Bogut, Delly etc. have bought into the system and enjoy playing for him.

Are there some questionable selections? From the outside perhaps, but none of us were at the camp and knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Forget what he does with the Bullets, that’s irrelevant.

He was never going to show his full hand in the lead up games (the same as the last pre Olympics) but he made great adjustments yesterday and we beat the U.S for the first time ever.

Good luck to the Boomers in the World Champs!

Yep I'm a f'ing idiot then, happy to be called one on this

Hasn't won anything with this our golden generation of players
Cant engage our best players to commit to the programme
2014 tanking debacle at worlds then horror show and end of game horror play vs Turkey in the crossover we tanked to get ...
Rio, peaked wrong, too early, and the abomination in the semi when it counted v Serbia
Another end of game horror play vs Spain lost us a medal
The disrespectful court decal incident and darkest day in Boomer history, basketbrawl v Phillipines on his watch
The selection shenenigans, leaving out NBA talent not to mention plucking Barlow from outside squad

Props to AL for his Asian Cup win and for yesterday, a great day for our sport in this country.
Ultimately, the coach entrusted with this golden generation should be judged on his record in major championships (not Asia) and so far thats a big nada zero nothing.

All power to the Boomers, I'll be sweating bullets every minute of the campaign willing us to do well and bring home something but if not I think a different voice and approach may be needed for the run in to and for Tokyo - a proven international medal winning coaching team

Go Boomers !

Old Mate, I think that the players you cited would be happy to play for anyone who coached their national team. They are not playing FOR Lemanis but because of Lemanis. He ever picks me to rep Australia and he becomes my favourite coach of all time. Of course they like playing in "his" team.

And plaease remember, Lemanis making decisions is really Lemanis, Longley, Weaver, Caporne and Patrick and BA making those decisions. Any one want to pour shit on Longley, Weaver, Caporne and Patrick for the decisions a lot of us did not like (I left out BA on purpose)?

"Hasn't won anything with this our golden generation of players"

Except he coached the Boomers most successful campaign ever.

"2014 tanking debacle at worlds"

Argue that it is against the spirit of competition, but if going for a medal it was strategically justified.

"then horror show and end of game horror play vs Turkey in the crossover we tanked to get ..."

Cite the Boomers upset victories to compare against.

"Rio, peaked wrong, too early, and the abomination in the semi when it counted v Serbia"

Serbia is a legit number 2 in the world, who we upset in the group stage. Nearly beating Spain in a medal game isn't peaking too early.

"The disrespectful court decal incident and darkest day in Boomer history, basketbrawl v Phillipines on his watch"

Only a Filipino would blame the Boomers for this; only a fool would blame the head coach.

"The selection shenenigans, leaving out NBA talent not to mention plucking Barlow from outside squad"

Even if Adel was selected instead of Barlow, he would be 12th man and probably receive negligible court time. Interesting that the observers with pro basketball backgrounds seemed to support Lemanis's justifications for his selections. Assistant coaches were involved in selections, not just Lemanis. Gliddon, for example, was on each assistant coach's 12.

"Cant engage our best players to commit to the programme"

You can only be referring to Simmons, Maker and Bolden. Maker played in the qualifiers and reports suggest he withdraw at the request of Detroit; Simmons flip-flopped as he seems to be influenced by his agent (who pulled all his other clients out of the WC*); Bolden gave up as he did at UCLA when he felt entitled to more court time at a different position, a pattern which suggests character issues with the player rather than the coach.

* Cory Joseph still hasn't committed to Canada.

"Cant engage our best players to commit to the programme"

Going just on that statement. That would have us believe that Nurse and Pop are far worse coaches than AL due to the simple fact that they both have more of their best players not committed to their programs.

You could argue it's more important our coach can engage our best as we have fewer of them to choose from right ?
Happy to be called a fool too. Fools make the same mistake twice right. Like we’ve done in 2014, 2016, 2019 ...?
Will we make it again for 2020 ?
Really happy to be proved wrong over the coming weeks. I’ve heard all the excuses for AL trust me. Medals are the only valid excuses now.
I mean having beaten the US anything less than gold is a failure now right ?

Firstly, let me just say that criticism I direct at "Lemanis" is in fact directed at the totality of the management of the Boomers, as I actually don't know the delimiters of his authority.

I will reserve judgement on our performance at the WC, until we see how far we go. At this point we have 2 wins from 2 games, so can't be too negative.

The selection of the team, has been a nightmare. How we have ended up with so many sub-par players is beyond me.
At some point somebody needs to apply some tough love to our Americans. Either (like most of our team) they are Australians playing in the NBA, and they commit to our national team,
or they are (like Irving) Americans who just happened to born here, and they can piss off. Pulling out of teams any time they don't get their egos stroked just fucks everyone up.

The one thing that must be stopped, and that we can dump right at the feet of Lemanis, is him handing out Boomers singlets as rewards to players that sign with Brissy.
Having Sobey in this team is a joke, and including Spuddee in the squad was an insult.

Or maybe Cadee knew the system and was brought in purely as a training player for a weeks worth of scrimmages to save having to bring in someone else who would have had to learn the systems the Boomers were running from scratch?

Cadee was never going to China, he knew that, Lemanis knew that and most level headed basketball people also knew that. He was however invaluable at extremely short notice to fill a spot in the training squad where his knowledge of the systems the team was running meant he knew didn't stuff up training by not knowing wat was going on.

Bingo. I know some people blindly hate Cadee but in this case I say good on him for making himself available at short notice purely for the good of the team while others were pulling out for petty reasons.
