Hawks linked to import Billy Preston

The Illawarra Mercury has reported that the Hawks have been strongly linked to young, 6'10" NBA G League power forward, Billy Preston.

Slightly unrelated, but is anyone able to advise whether imports are insured by teams to the extent that their salaries are covered in the event of injury? I.e. would insurance cover Brook's salary, or would would that come down to the team?

interesting.

Here's a question:
Obviously not for the Hawks, but should somebody like that qualify as a Next Star? Still only 22...

Don't know anything about his actual play, but in theory should be a good fit. They need a PF!

Who would he replace?
They've got Froling on a 3 year deal.

Do they encourage the retirement of Coenraad?

Lamelo isn't happy with something, 2 imports basically signed now within 24hrs and he is injured.

The nbl wasn't happy the hawks took so long to be competitive. Lamelo has a different beef I reckon.

Other players linked to the Hawks recently include Jaye Crockett (Phoenix), Deshon Taylor (Kings) and Deng Deng (Breakers).

Deng was reported by the Mercury as a possible injury replacement for Sam Froling. Crockett and Taylor were discussed on Overtime. Liam stated that he believed there may be interest from the Hawks in Taylor.

Given the Hawks have recently signed Hobbs and the Kings have announced Taylor will be staying on as an injury replacement for Moller, you can rule him out.

That leaves one of Preston, Crockett or Deng as a possible addition.

"Obviously not for the Hawks, but should somebody like that qualify as a Next Star?"

That's the problem when you start bending the rules, where do you stop?
Guys like RJ make it seem clear-cut. He comes out of high-school, forgoes his one year of college, then gets drafted. Simple.
But then you have Lamelo, who had already played professionally.
Now we got Didi who was already drafted.
Having a guy like Preston would seem to be less of an advantage, but if he's not going to be drafted next year it defeats the aims of the program...
