Breakers v United

So far this round all the home teams have won, and won well. United should be feeling the heat. A bad loss could see them tumble out of the 4, but A loss sees them enter the Danger Zone. There's 4 other teams that would welcome them with open arms and thank them for opening up a space for finals.

One of those teams is New Zealand, who suddenly have half the NBL barracking for them. NZ will nibble up the ladder if they win. They are yet to beat the Soy Boys this year, but in recent times have shown they can teams that are more fancied than them and so carry a confidence into this game like a son of a Entrepreneur spending other people's money.

United. What can we say? Decimated by Adelaide last round and losses to in form teams Cairns and Brisbane, with their only win against Illawarra. Hey, is there any team not beating the Hawks at the moment? Both Long and Trimble have reached the 50 game milestone, so will they celebrate with a W, or will it be a long flight home with Vickerman sitting in the middle wanting to have a chat...that would be a little awkward.

I'm thinking although United have the fresh legs, this is the land of the long white whistle and so the refs will give Hoopsters plenty to talk about, especially the soft fouls on Long. They won't fall for the antics os CG43 who seems to suddenly jerk his head back whenever an opposition player gets too close. In retirement I'm sure they could use him to mop the floor. Sek Henry is supposedly back, but between Delaney and Abba, I think United have a lot to think about.

I'll go the Breakers on this one. Possible OT game, but hang onto your organic soy lattes, I think this game will be closer than he ones so far this round, and NZ to win by 6

Trimble jumpers not falling, so he needs to be aggressive and attack off the dribble

Get the starters in foul trouble and then expose the thin bench.

Would prefer a Breakers win but see Melbourne getting this one.

Melbourne will take this. Unfortunately, because I'd love to see the Breakers get up, but they’re backing up from Friday and still have injury issues. Melbourne can’t keep playing as badly as they have been lately.

Hopson played 37mins on Friday and Weeks, Loe, Abercrombie & Delaney also played big minutes.
Brandon Ashley will be fairly fresh.
It's a pretty big ask for the Breakers and make or break for their season moving forward.
Sek Henry may play but how limited will he be with his calf injury?

Make or break for United. In serious trouble if they don't win. Next games are at Sydney, home to Perth, at Brisbane, so could have a below 50% record very soon.
They have been putrid lately. I think they’ll loose this one by 12, as NZ has looked good and is still a chance for finals.

Whoever drops this one will probably miss out

Breakers win they go 11 - 12 lose they go 10 - 13
then @ Perth, vs Adelaide, @ Illawarra, @ Brisbane, vs Southeast Melbourne

Melbourne win 12 - 10 lose 11 - 11
then @ Sydney, vs Perth, @ Brisbane, vs Illawarra, vs Cairns, @ Southeast Melbourne

A must win for both

Brisbane in form, 11 wins and 4 home games remaining from their last 6.

Starting to look like 15 wins might be the required number.

Hopefully today is the day United finds some form- they need it.

Of course each teams "destiny is in their own hands" with United matching up against each of Brisbane and Cairns on the way home.

In the last round of the season Cairns plays both Brisbane and United.

This will be a ripping finish.

If Breakers lose today, it's possible they could then win their last 5 to go 15-13 and still miss out on percentage, with Brisbane, Cairns and United all having superior percentage.

Another fascinating game, just for the result on its own. How good is the nbl.

Melbourne won't drop this as much as I’d like them too. United by 8.

McCarron & Kidd are going to have their hands full with Hopson. Trimble to break out of his slump, none of the NZ guards can check him.

Long just isn't strong enough. He's very skinny through the core and legs... Gets pushed around by stronger bigs. He'd be better playing PF.

Vickerman going to get the sack if United dont make the playoffs? It's not entirely on him though the team just doesn’t work. Long & Trimble are big names but aren’t winners. Watching United stay in a zone when they’re getting torched with no adjustments is just terrible.

The moment Weeks ran a simple pass and hand off action for the dunk, you knew Melbourne were in for a tough night. Both Melo and Long are incredibly talented offensive players that can't defend the simplest of actions.

The Breakers have the easiest schedule out of them, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Next week will be key. If Brisbane go 0-2 they're probably out. However, they’re playing really well.

Breakers only "tough" game is next week away to Perth.

Fourth will be taken by Brisbane or the Breakers. The Sixers play really well sometimes, but they seem to be the weakest of the three.

Melbourne are gone.

Gotta respect NZ

If Hopson had played all year he'd be top 3 in the MVP and NZ would be 3rd on the ladder

But the whole team plays hard at both ends

United has dug themselves into a hole, but it's not season over. This is shaping up to be one of the tightest seasons ever.

Welcome back LV.

Tight season indeed.
Cairns are in.
Phoenix are cooked.
That leaves Melbourne, Brisbane, NZ and Adelaide all fighting for one spot.

Cairns has 5 games left but only 1 remaining in Cairns. They're 3-7 on the road.

Cairns, Brisbane, United, 36ers, NZ could all very easily finish 3rd or 4th.

United had a 6 game winning streak. Cairns and NZ have both had 5 game winning streaks. Adelaide' s best was 3

Brisbane have won 3 in a row with a combined winning margin of 51. Their only losses in their past 7 outings were Hopson's game winner and a 2 point loss to Cairns. 4 of their last 6 are in Brisbane.

So who knows what will happen in the last 5 or 6 games?

Why do United go to the summer league to have meetings and check out players only to get imports from other clubs. Long is a stats padder and can't play defence, same as Trimble. Prather been injured for three seasons. Some of your bench looks horrible where it was a strong point in previous seasons.

I'll take a wild stab and suggest in the next 5 or 6 games, you will bitch about the refereeing and flopping and ignore that United get calls and have experts in diving.

Not sure who is more withdrawn from reality, Paul Smith or this one.

NZ with Hopson- 10-6

Without Hopson- 1-6

If they went say 4-3 instead of 1-6, they'd be 14-9.

NZ have had an impressive season given the injuries they've had.

I'm hoping they sneak into the 4 (along with United, of course!) partly out of curiosity to see how well they do. And partly because they seems to have plenty of fight. They don't seem like the type of team who would roll over and be blown out

[you will bitch about the refereeing]

And you will post irrelevant bullshit whilst adults talk about basketball

Bloody good question

Maybe we need Mike Kelly back, cos Cairns are a low budget club but they ended up with the best imports.

Sixers are still in very gd position for finals.. home games all be wins and on the road nothing to fear... DJ in super form. Randle will get his..losing in cairns happens to all.

United have hit the wall. NZ road wins becomes there issue and Brisbane- surely not
leaves Sixers whose run home not beyond a sweep.

Weeks was awesome, ran the team well and stepped up and hit some big shots when required ad was pesky on defense.
To hold Melbourne to 35 points in the first half and just 33 in the second was a massive effort.
