No Game 5 = Game 4 or Bust!

I have it on good authority that, nomatter the result of game 4, all 3 parties have agreed that there will be no game 5 in Sydney.

If Perth wins game 4, then its all over anyway.
If Sydney wins, then the NBL will announce that the series is finished, in a draw, and the Championship will be awarded to the Kings based on ladder position.

Whilst that may sound silly, the real reason is that Perth decided they would not return to Sydney, and will in effect forfeit the last game.
To avoid a backlash, they informed the NBL ahead of time, and the above agreement was reached

Can't blame Perth for not wanting to fly back to Sydney.
The NBL should have handled this situation better.

If it ends now at 2-1 do Perth win or will Sydney claim it based on ladder.

I could handle Perth losing if it is fair and square but this stinks of the league looking after Sydney.

there will be govt restriction in NSW of less than 100 people tomorrow or even lower perhaps 50. Perth should hold out.

Perth should be crowned champions or joint champions. Perth wins if game 4 doesn't play out. If Sydney wins game 4 joint champions will be declared.

If its 2 all wouldn't points difference be better than to give it to Sydney because ladder?

The ladder means nothing in the playoffs except for home court, and COVID has stopped that.

Surely they can't announce a winner. It should be announced no team wins if it doesn't continue

Kings down 2-1 Brunson...They absolutely should call it over. It's blatant Kings favouritism if they don't.

You can't just say one team is leading so call the result. The series is still alive.

I'm assuming since it's a Kings press conference, as opposed to a league press conference, it may be about a player or official having COVID-19, not about the structure of the finals or upcoming games.

They don't need a press conference to say they don't want to travel. That would be a request to the league and then up to them.

Just a guess.

The Season is 98% complete.

A winner is discernible at this point in time (3 games played).

IF a game 4 were played and Sydney won, a winner can still be discerible with points.

Playing 99% of a season only to declare no winners is a waste.

A winner was pretty discernible on Saturday LoveBroker. Sydney better regular season and points difference in final. You couldn't argue that.

And now it's a 180 and Perth are discernible and definitely deserve it. I can't argue that if you stopped now Perth don't deserve it.

And if they scrape in game 4 and sydney win, all of a sudden you can't argue Sydney don't deserve it.

Is that a way to award a league champion? Doesn't work like that. The agreement needs to be up front. Not revisionist.

"Playing 99% of a season only to declare no winners is a waste."

It is not a waste under these circumstances. It has been a tainted finals ever since no fans were allowed to attend the games.

Untrue. Perth was happy to fly. And did. The truth is that there was no crowd at Perth last week because sydney refused to play with a crowd. Now Sydney is refusing to fly to Perth, those are the facts.

"You can't just say one team is leading so call the result"

NBL have done this in at least two games that were halted before full time was up. One in Cairns when the power failed and one this season in Wollongong when the roof leaked. In both cases, the team in front when the game was halted were awarded the win. The game this season was also halted due to concerns about player safety.

Ladder position should not be used to determine the championship as it was influenced by the unbalanced regular season fixture used this season. Perth and Sydney played different numbers of total games, and of home and away games, against other teams. e.g., Sydney played 2 more games against the bottom 2 teams than Perth did; Perth had 5 home and 6 away games against top 4 opponents, while Sydney had 6 home and 5 away.

For all the above you have to look at the cost factor of playing in front of an empty stadium. No money regarding TV rights and the NBL made up of privatized clubs . Must be costing the clubs a fortune especially if goes to game 5 with both clubs having 2 empty stadiums each. I do think Sydney are hanging out for the title to be awarded to them either through lockdown and finishing in top of the ladder but Perth have every right to claim title by leading 2/1. NBL have to make a decision !!! If Perth win on Friday , all solved, but if not should be declared a draw as flight restrictions may apply.

The precedent of calling games where teams are down heaps with a little bit of time left in dead rubbers?

Yeah pretty similar to deciding a championship.
