Adelaide Basketball Challenge

Thoughts after round 1? Very underwhelming rosters and standard!

It is Reserves - many players not playing and others not fit.

Like Reserves in summer - means little given who decides to play or not

How did Norwood get a second team in. They looked woeful and shouldn't be there

Very average basketball, most teams treating for what it is, an opportunity to get back on court.

Not worth wasting your time. As an above comment, many looked in poor shape.

Was that really Norwoods NBL1 coach jacking up crap against an underwhelming looking Sturt lineup? He looked like a terrible player and team mate in the 10 mins I saw.

From what I can gather the Norwood NBL1 coach has largely falsified and/or grossly exaggerated statements in what he claims to have done.

Either the Kingdom of Norwood, who often believe their own rubbish anyway, bought it, or they just are not in position of knowledge to even realise it. Was so looking forward to grabbing to popcorn and watching it unravel for both parties but COVID saved them. Well it saved them on the court anyway.

Why put in a second young team? Isn't that the purpose of U18s or U23s

The Forestville U23/1 girls were pathetic last night

963, literally nobody in this state was interested in Norwood's gig, and given their never ending off court drama, it's not hard to see why.

Problem is people without much of a clue are making decisions, such as appointing this guy.

Surely putting in two club teams is a massive piss take! We were always going to struggle given no imports, no returning college kids, playing Tuesday nights and restrictions galore so why in hell would BSA say "hey lets make it as close to a social comp as possible"! I am waiting for YMCA 3 v Norwood 2, now thats a blockbuster.

Usual suspects of Forestville, North, Norwood will be top. Sturt looking strong too. The rest of the rosters look like junk.

Southern will be ok as well, Riccardo Martin there as well as Demi Skinner for women. Offered to play for central's but they want Sapwell the 3rd to take all the shots.
And the West and Sturt trade of Desantis for Kubank will help both teams
South of course won't field any of their recruits and be in cellar as normal.

Any idea why Owen Hulland played? Is he done with college? Should have returned by now and wouldn't have thought he could play as a div 1.

It should be understood that BSA is comprised of 3 major members groups - Church, Country SA and Basketball Adelaide. BAdel comprises the 10 metro clubs and they decided if Mt Gambier was in or out of Premier League last year and they decided in 2020 to run a 12 week Tuesday night "reserves" comp. Disappointing given that football, soccer and netball all worked out how to have a premier/state league comp (albeit in most cases modified) but that basketball after over 60 years of state league dropped the comp so no Premier League, no Woolacott or Hall medal etc.

I believe the decision not to have PL is the correct decision. After all Clubs and players were advised that the NBL1 season (PL) was CANCELLED and recommended imports be sent home which most imports any competition was going to be significantly compromised.

Only a few clubs or individuals would want to win
Any of those awards in those circumstances

On balance the majority wanted a competition which allowed older players to have a game each week. The Reserves was the obvious answer though the person above has it wrong in at least one area - the decision to make it 12 weeks was BSAs

Yes correct BAdel wanted 9 week reserves comp and I understand that BSA arranged a 12 week comp though I don't know their logic behind this decision

Looks like no one in the country wanted to coach the two superstars at norwood or deal with the ceo so they had to grab someone from a different country to fill the spot. Everyone knows whoever coaches the team isn't the real coach.

Warriors v Eagles was a good game. Warriors had Eagles but choked in the dying minutes. Warriors didn't have their entire team either and if they have the so called additional players that above are talking about - well that could be a game changer. Brine injured his ankle end of game so not sure what his status for the rest of the season. Harris had a very weak game held to 8 points for the game - hit and miss.

These 2nd teams are a joke and only bringing the comp down. It's supposed to the best team a club can bring forward and the rest should just play in their allocated teams like U18/U23's etc.

5 out of 8 is a start but much of the development happened pre his time. I believe North have 8 from 9 juniors playing last night

Last night's result didn’t upset me. Firstly it was Norwood and secondly I think two players from other clubs accounted for half your points scored

Ellison played in round 1 and scored 7. Not sure Johns and Starling would average 50 per week
