Melbourne v Brisbun Apr 12

Melbourne are sitting top of the table thanks to Adelaide and whether they stay there is up to them.

Brissy could be falling away from Illawarra and holding hands with Sydney and Adelaide around the campfire of broken dreams singing Kumbaya if they are not careful. Adelaide is on guitar and Sydney are playing the tambourine so all they need is someone clapping out the beat.

But the soy boys are at home and travelling pretty well on their home court. Someone's dribbling the ball, kumbaya, Victor Law is out injured, kumbaya, Looks like CG43 is back, kumbaya, Oh, a Melbourne win, kumbaya.

The title favourites should take care of business against the depleted bullets without too many problems

United starting to roll, Brisbane beat up.

United by twenty.

United playing with zero imports - again. Brisbane should take this.

Stith is an import. Brisbane sans Law. Melbourne somehow playing at home again. Unless Sobey goes apeshit and Fatterson gets going United should romp home.

The other alt is that Melb play a sub-standard game. With White and Hopson out there's a chance for the Bullets. And quite obviously, the Bullets need the W more than United do.

So, if the Bullets cover for Law, all others play very well, with the right amount of desperation and, if Melb play it down through lack of desperation and without the above injuries, a win is not only possible but could be on the cards.

Forgive the comparison but a few got last night's (Peth v Adel) outcome right and who'da thought?

Ili, Hopson, out. McCarron wife just about to give birth, gets phone call he's out. I’ll still stick with United but by seven.

Greg Vanderjagt sighting on the Bullets bench, they could use him out on the court.

There's no D in ca.ee is certainly leading Brisbane in that department, problem it rubs off onto all players.

Brisbane get back into game three straight fouls to Melbourne, it's horrible. One a moving screen and all in a minute.

Ended up a very good game, McCarron was fantastic and so was Sobey. Patterson not far away from a break out game. McCarron racing out to the birth of his baby. Brisbane just got a few passengers on defence and Law a massive loss. United just to deep, baba great at both ends. Landale, Hodgson, Harrison good.

Sensational game from McCarron, has probably been United's most consistent player all year, any lingering questions about his playmaking ability are now surely extinguished. Great court vision combined with clutch plays and tough defence all night.

McCarron look away pass to Landale for the dunk was magnificent, all class. He's been fantastic.

Watching Sobey in the second half was amazing to watch up close. Such an underrated player, and so hard to contain for the full 40 minutes. Elite Australian talent, for this league, and you'd have to be stupid to let someone like him walk to another club.

Patterson showing signs of finding form too. Needs consistency and still early in his comeback, and seems much more at home.

Fun game to watch. Never felt like Melbourne were threatened despite Brisbane never giving up the fight.

Sobey not being in the Boomers squad was questionable at the time but is utterly inexplicable now.

Reasonably happy with that from United.

Anyone who thinks McCarron can't play point guard needs to watch this game. McDaniel appears to be beginning to show he belongs in the NBL- quality game from him.

Sobey's season has been fantastic. Patterson showing enough to slot him into the starting 5 now. A few defensive lapses by Bullets, eg 2 plays in a row where Peatling was wide open cutting to the hoop after Hodgson and Froling both hedged on Landale. But with Sobey playing like that, they looked dangerous in that 2nd half.

The consensus now seems to be that both McCarron and Sobey have grown into being PGs?

I agree, LV. McCarron and Sobey are looking pretty awesome these days. You would think both would be automatic selections for any Boomers squad which excludes NBA players.

It would've been a good game to watch for any Australian basketball fan given the lack of imports on court- Sobey and Landale were the two best players on court. And they'd probably be 3rd and 4th in current MVP considerations after Cotton and Daylight.

McCarron passed stacks of slick assists and continues his consistent season. Hodgson showed plenty when he wasn't benched after committing dumb fouls. Froling is only 22, it's easy to forget that. Still a promising future NBL player despite not developing quite as it looked like he would. CG hit some trademark threes, including one that turned the tide back in Melbourne's favour after the lead was cut to 5 with under 3 minutes left.

Wouldn't Mooney and Iverson be up there in best big men conversation with Landale.
Humphries before injury was up there too.

Mooney has been great- I doubt any team has ever had top 2 in MVP before, but this must be the best chance yet.

Landale has been comfortably the best player on the top team.

Right now it would be between those 2 for the 5 spot in ALL NBL 1st team.

Iverson struggled early, wouldn't be anywhere near it despite a few supreme games lately.

There's no 5 spot in the All NBL teams. It's three "outside" and two "inside" players

Creek their biggest threat.

I chose Ware for 2nd team because the alternatives drop of after that.

Sykes injured too long otherwise would be there.
Tai Webster is good but Ware gets ahead due to his good defence.
Corey Webster injured too long.
Mitch Norton probably not in this conversation but very good defender.
Djeric - LOL.
Giddey - Not there yet.
Kyle Adnam - LOL.
Jason Cadee - LOL.
Chris Goulding - injured too long, would normally be in the conversation.
DJ Vasijevic - Close, would make a strong case.
Didi Lazada - LOL.
Justinian Jessup - Close but not there yet.
