Giddey officially nominates for 2021 NBA Draft

Josh Giddey has just announced that he will be entering the 2021 NBA Draft!

Only on Monday, he became the youngest Australian in the NBL to get a triple-double!

Definitely big things ahead for Giddey!

His season with the Adelaide 66ers sure was good - https://www.espn.com.au/nba/insider/story/_/id/31337556/2021-nba-draft-alperen-sengun-scouts-vowing-repeat-their-nikola-jokic-mistake

In a world of so many uncertainties this was probably one of the most certain.

Does he sit out the season and put his feet up now?

Top 15 lock for sure!

Only his lack of athletics ability stops him being a top 10 lock

If he goes outside top 10 he'll turn out to be a massive bargain.

10-14 for me.

Better than Hampton, but less smooth and athletic than LaMelo.

Should maybe play a couple more games and stop preserve his stock.

He looks like he's cruising at NBL level and rarely rushed - thinks faster than the pace of the game. Typically those players adapt pretty well. I suspect he'll go top ten.

I think he is almost certain to go top 15.
Will be a higher pick than Green and is better than Exum imo.

Think he's draft ready but not NBA ready. Not sure sitting on a bench will be the best for his development, maybe... maybe... G-League, given he will have the ball in his hands.

All the best to Josh.

For his sake I hope he packs it up soon rather than risk injury.

LOL. With all due respect, a jump shot isn't the reason Exum is a wash in the NBA...

Wrap it up? Are you kidding me. Melo was a weak prick for deserting his team, his teammates and his coach. The NBL is not the 'Next Stars' private little show to pick and choose when they want to play. Giddey signed a contract to play in a professional league, gets paid very well and is expected to fulfill that contract. Credit to him, his character says he will. The only party that would be suggesting he doesn't play are agents looking for their payday.

Agree with Isaac, based on what I've seen on tv only.

Not rushed. Has good size and reach for a pg (stupid auto co-wreck tried to insult him here).

Top 10 is likely, but it all depends on the test of the draft class, and what the franchises prioritise this year.

Going out on a limb here: I predict he will really hit his straps after the draft. He’s an Aussie so this season should mean something to him, and he might be even more relaxed post draft, when he’s locked in for future career.

Can anyone please explain how it works with contracts? Is it top 15 guaranteed a contract or something similar? If so, is it 1 year or more?

First round picks (#1-30) are guaranteed 3 year deals with options for a further 2 years. The rates are set depending on where they're picked #1 looking at $7-8M a year, pick #30 around $2M a year.

Second round picks (#31-60) are 2 year deals, the first year guaranteed but the second year non-guaranteed. First year used to be around $550K the second year about $750K but likely more than that now.

#492, I put it to you that he is EXACTLY in the nuance area like Jingles. He may need some time to find his game (GLeague, Europe etc not unlike Giuseppe himself) but I feel that he projects to match old mate's playing style in a big way

Funny you mention ingles. I see him as a very similar player. If the 3 develops a bit more he could be very valuable as a do it all role player who can fill a lot of gaps.

Zodiac, has there been a rule change recently about 2nd rounders? They've never been guaranteed - hence Didi coming to the Kings - and could technically sign for absolutely anything.

"If the 3 develops a bit more he could be very valuable as a do it all role player who can fill a lot of gaps.",
suggests that he would be very valuable, off-the-bench.

And, anyway, isn't he averaging nearly a double-double? Seems that he already has an all-round game.

As a first-round pick, aren't his aims to be a starting guard? Think he should be a specialist, not an ideal 6th man, and his specialty is being a double-double starting PG who also rebounds like there's no tomorrow.

Not to my knowledge, and I should've clarified first year is guaranteed if they're signed but the same goes for first-round picks too there's been first-round picks who have never signed their NBA deals Fran Vasquez comes to mind chose to stay in Europe instead.

I think you'll find the contract Didi just signed was his second-round pick deal. First year (this season) guaranteed (pro-rata obviously) and next season will be the non-guaranteed second year that won't become guaranteed financially unless he makes the Pels opening night roster.

The Pels owned Didi's NBA rights meaning he couldn't sign with any other team and he had to accept his second-round pick contract or get nothing.

LaMelo's excellent rookie season should help Giddey, showing that prospects who put up numbers like that in the NBL are legit. And while the top 5 seem pretty locked in, there are a bunch of guys in the rest of the lottery whose collegiate performances don't exactly blow you out of the water.

But where he gets drafted matters less than what situation he finds himself in and how he performs once he gets there. As a Spurs fan, I wouldn't be heartbroken if they miss the play-offs and nab him in the late lottery. I also think Ingles is a good comparison, though I'd hope by his prime that Giddey is more of a focal point than Ingles.
