Yah good, not really sure what Frazier brings to the team...

Didn't really like seeing blanch and travers both coming off the bench, just seemed unbalanced…

Blanch was such a savvy signing a few years ago

I'd guess Supreme Chairman McGowan actually cost them the game. Crazy schedule due to the borders, don't know when they're going home, I also think it's a major factor in Hodgson brain fade.
Cats were just cooked from tip off.

AngusH

I'd have rathered Hodgson not get ejected, much happier seeing him play for the opposition than Majok. With a margin that big it's really the last thing you want to happen because it can completely flip momentum, which it definitely did and Majok was great for a few mins. It also got Cooks a foul which led to him fouling out at a critical moment of the game.

Happy we were able to hold on, especially minus Cooks. When he's not on the court we are way too one dimensional offensively, and Maker and Tommy just can't play D on the perimeter at a high enough level.

There is still a lot I like about him, but his 3 point shot has turned from a shaky one into a disaster this season. At his size he is not going anywhere without a jump shot.

I agree, Travers is nowhere close to being potentially drafted. Although any commentary team will blindly suggest otherwise.

He legit needs to get rid of the bogan hairstyle too, appearances matter to others.

Travers' scrappy style of play fit the Gleeson-era Cats to a T, but he looks like the odd one out there with the way the Cats play under ScoMo.

I think his ceiling is excellent NBL starter/MVP candidate, but he will need a Creek-like growth from deep. It can certainly happen, shooting is just about the easiest thing to improve, it's just self-motivation and effort. No matter how much he improves though I think his biggest problem re: the NBA is he's too short, like Creek. Skillset is a 3/4 man, but size-wise has to play 2/3 at that level. Shooting will help, but I think his strengths play closer to the basket.

Reply #883644 | Report this post

Cram

I think thats all fair Angus. Its the best time ever to be a tweener in the NBA though. There's so many undersized guys playing up one or even two positions. You're dead right he'll need to work on his shot though.

""shooting is just about the easiest thing to improve"

I think the important part of Angus sentence was the qualifier:

"it's just self-motivation and effort"

Plenty of guys have come into the league with virtually no ability to shoot and become at least decent.

So Hodgson, 2 games reduced to 1 with an early guilty plea?

Reply #883654 | Report this post

Luuuc

What type of precedents are we looking at here?
I feel like NBL suspensions are generally pretty mild, even for decent hits, and in Hodgson's case it couldn't have been any more deliberate but ultimately it also wasn't particularly dangerous in terms of potential to cause pain/injury.

So yeah, 1 game wouldn't surprise me.

"it's just self-motivation and effort"

That's a significant point.

What did Childress get years back? He was reduced to 1 game wasn't he? That was much worse so 1 game is suffice.

Reply #883681 | Report this post

AngusH

I could be wrong, but I thought Childress missed 2 games. The Childress elbow was more reckless, but the sheer stupidity of Hodgson doing it twice and with the second basically being a cross between a slap and a push I think will lead to it being a couple of games.

From the numerous replays I've seen I don't see why there would be any more penalties than that. Cooks foul was harsh but he definitely pushed Hodgson so understandable also.

Is it just me or did he look straight at the ref before the first slap?. He really doesn't seem to be interested in putting the effort in and I see that as a way of getting out of the game. I'm a big fan of Majok but coming back from a big injury he can't be relied on for big minutes too often.

It wasn't a dangerous act in terms of being likely to cause an injury.
It was just very douchey, and I think non-dangerous douchery is generally better handled with techs and fines than suspensions.

That sort of foul (un-sportsman-like) followed by a tech is automatic disqualification, isn't it? If so, disqualification is also a report and a hearing anyway. Change to the rule to where we started from!

There might still be a twist left in this one ...

NBL Lodges Hodgson Appeal

The NBL is exercising its right to appeal the decision handed down to Perth Wildcats' centre Matthew Hodgson on Friday evening.

Hodgson was banned for three games, two of which were suspended, for two charges of striking, by an Independent Single Member Tribunal.

The NBL has tabled a written submission to a separate independent legal practitioner who will chair a Full Member Tribunal should the appeal be granted within the next 48 hours.

The tribunal processes are governed by the NBL Tribunal Guidelines but heard by independent legal practitioners and when required, appropriately experienced basketball and sporting experts.

The NBL supports the independent process and looks forward to the next stage of that process commencing.
