2023 Mens World Cup - Bronze Medal Game

We're all repeating the joke because it's so good: the North American match-up we expected on the day of the gold medal game of the 2023 World Cup!

Only it's the early game at 18:00 (Adelaide time), Sep 10. USA vs Canada for bronze. Must be miserable for USA - if they win: congrats, you beat your little brother for bronze; if they lose: the humiliation continues. Great spot for Canada though, getting a free hit.

USA humbled by two losses, giving up 110 to Lithuania and then 113 to Germany!

Canada dropping one to Brazil and sneaking past Spain earlier in the comp before learning a bit more about world basketball against Serbia.

I reckon this could be a bit of a romp for the USA. SGA is excellent but Canada don't have depth if anyone fades. USA by 18.

Predictions?

USA looked complacent to me, in the semi.

They'll have one foot on the plane tomorrow. Canada for bronze.

I hope Canada wins, in which case the US players might not WANT to be on a plane home - Trump and their news media will go feral about their debacle. LOL

Kerr, Lue, Spoelstra, Mark Few (Gonzaga coach) - nice coaching lineup for team USA

Agree, KET. Especially nice to include Few, who is a very good College coach.

Dillon Brooks is giving me Draymond Green 2016 NBA Finals Game 7 vibes.
Went nuts in the first half, especially from deep

Kessler doing good. Entertaining game, both sides probably thought they'd be in the final. USA should get up from here, better depth.

USA looking lazy in that possession just prior to the out of court challenge. Very limited strategy evident.

This game has a very NBA regular season vibe about it.

Entertaining transition, but much slower half court game than the Euro teams.

Banchero, Ingram and JJJ out sick is interesting.

Ben Simmons should have gone to the school of PR that Dillon Brooks went to. Prior to the tournament was one of the most hated to a now tournament darling getting MVP chants. Helps that he has been playing well too though!

Subbed in Edey, it went his way and they still gave up the insane basket.

Energy level has picked up a bit...

Oh my, unbelievable, both sides dribble to much, Canada deserves this.

The best team won,
Reaves, Brunson over dribble and they are not on their own. Commentary are gutted, can't believe it.
Congratulations Canada.

Canada can still be stronger next year.

I know that USA weren't playing the full suite of stars that they’ll no doubt roll out for Paris, but there’s way too much talent in too many nations now for USA to expect gold anymore.

They will have to work for it. It’s not AFL, in basketball when you’ve got a star like SGA plus depth, you can do anything. Add Murray in!

Look at Serbia - they still have Jokic to add!

France might have Embiid plus Victor!

Germany will only get better - they’ll be a juggernaut

OT was just horrible basketball.
Iso, iso, iso....yawn.

Canada deserved the W.
Good to see them happy to get the medal.

USA made the boomers look like a very good team tonight.

Australia in for a wake up call if we go in to the Olympics with minimal changes.
Ingles could not guard brooks/Dort or bridges/reaves

Serbia still have Micic to add aswell.

They reached final without their best 2 players

NBA about to find out how good Micic is as he is playing for OKC next year. He is a gun so Giddey's minutes about to take a big hit. Him and SGA on sale team will be insane

Bridges' shot to force OT goes from instant classic to something we'll never see again in a few days' time.

Congrats to Team Canada, big achievement for the program and agree with Knockdown3 - clearly happy to medal as well.

USA didn't even have their full roster of this team for this game, to be fair. (In the context of teams missing players.)

Hugely entertaining game, yet again. Glad it was won by a team who seemed like they wanted it.

USA not even World Champions of North America in the end.

Calm your farm haha, whilst I'm a big fan of internationals coming in and having an impact, a 29yo first time NBAer isn’t going to take big minutes away from Giddey. They wouldn’t be stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot like that and ruin development of a player they’ll be planning on being a star alongside SGA and Chet.
