Cotton is not an Aussie, wont be an Aussie in time and has said publicly he has no longer any interest to play for the Boomers.

So we need to get over Cotton on the boomers.

What changes from last years' team?

Landale comes in, Kay, Cooks or White out.

I’d be very interested in what a healthy Humphries looks like in training camp.

I think I’d rather Landale & Humphries over Kay and White/Cooks.

Then we just hope that natural development from Green and Daniels covers for Mills and Ingles regression.

Magnay over Humphries

Weedy Slug

Probably the same 12, - Kay, + Landale.

Mills 2-1
Goulding 2
Green 3-2
Thybulle 3-4
Exum 1-3-2
Daniels 2-1-3
Giddey 1
Ingles 3
White 4
Cooks 4/5
Landale 5
Reath 5

Simmons likely in if returns soon.
Vasiljevic could replace Goulding.
An extra big like Magnay or Humphries.
The rest on the OP list will have to wait.

I'd have Magnay ahead of Humphries, much as I like the guy, and I’d even have him in ahead of Ingles as we have enough 3-men and Ingles is the slowest of those.

Why do people continue to live in hope about Simmons. Nets would never allow it, although they probably don't care or even realise he's on team.
Already have plenty of non shooters.
And he's a knob who shouldn't get a spot above someone who actually wants and have worked for it and made themselves available. Would rather a washed up Delly who's bled green and gold, FFS, would even take Baynes over him.
I doubt he'll even get another contract in the NBA, European teams would pass on him, China beckons.

Even if Delly bleeds Green and Gold, Simmons is still the better player. He is also versatile, can play both big man spots which we need and the 1.
Not a fan, but he would help the team on the court. what he does off it though... and will he stay healthy for one tournament.

Patty"TheGOAT"Mills
Earlier this year

Nick Kay - 3 August 1992

Matthew Dellavedova - 8 September 1990

Chris Goulding - 24 October 1988

Patty Mills - 11 August 1988

Joe Ingles - 2 October 1987

We were the team with the highest number of old players at the last World Cup.

Patty was one of the best players, but he had a lot of ups and downs.
Ingles was one of the worst players.
Goulding's records continue to drop in major international competitions.
Kay's prime time is now coming to an end. He has been playing in the lower level league for three years. In the last World Cup, his activity level dropped significantly in both offense and defense. In particular, it was confirmed that the synergy between Giddey and Kay was not good as the main option in the Boomers was changed from Patty to Giddey.
I like Delly, but we have a lot of Guard and it's time for the younger players.

They'll even be a year older after the World Cup and before the Paris Olympics.

I hope only 1-2 out of the 5 players are selected.

We missed Delly's leadership, defence, energy and smarts big time last year. I think if we're seriously chasing a medal in Paris he gets picked for a role off the bench. If we're planning for the future then he misses.

Serious question.

Are we sure Thybulle is a lock?

I wouldn't be surprised if he misses out. Wasn’t effective at the WC, not even close to the punch he provided at Tokyo.

He’s a three and d dude, and if he ain’t hitting threes again he’s pretty much an anchor. His hypothetical minutes could easily be covered by Dyson and others I reckon.

Surely we learnt from the mistakes of the World Cup and will select a second legit big as an insurance policy. Whether or not that's Humphries or Magnay doesn't matter so much for me, but one of them should be on the team.

Im going with the WC team minus Kay and Cooks, and adding Landale and Humphries.

Starters:

Landale
Duop
Exum
Green
Giddey

Main Rotation:
Ingles
Patty
Thybulle
Daniels

Insurance/Special Teams:
Goulding
Humphries
White

I love that team personally BALLER#3. Cooks is one dimensional and performing poorly in an average Japanese league this season.

He can't be on the floor with Thybulle either due to spacing concerns.

Like the double big starting lineup as well.

I don't want to see another "specialist shooter" situation where someone is brought in to shoot but never sees a minute of court time. Goulding was wasted at the cup and if the intention is to go in and do it again I'd prefer they just didn't.

I'm not a fan of just rehashing the Cup team. That team didn't work. We need more size so for me one of Magnay or Humphries makes this team.

Ben Simmons is a big question mark. If he does put his hand up it's hard to imagine a world where he doesn't make the team, but his inclusion means the rest of the team has to be able to shoot and that's not a luxury we seem to have.

I would look outside the box for some of these positions. Give youth a genuine look and dont just pick on past success. We need shooters - period. If that means one of Thybulle or Daniels or even Simmons miss out, so be it.

I don't think I can trust Goorjian with this team. I feel like there will be necessary skill sets left off the team and players who could change games unutilized. I feel like his time as an international coach is coming to an end and we will suffer under him if he's not suitably supported with the right assistants. His in-game decisions have been baffling for years now.

The following players are 'thanks but no thanks' this year

Cooks, Kay, Delly.

Fighting for their lives - Thybulle, Jack White.

Jack White probably wouldn't see court time anyway aad I think he's another one underutilized at the Cup. Thybulle just might not bring enough offensively over other options.

Locks:

Josh Gideey
Patty Mills
Joe Ingles
Duop Reath
Jock Landale
Dante Exum
Josh Green
Dyson Daniels

Maybe pile:

Will Magnay
Isaac Humphries
Jonah Bolden
Chris Goulding
Ben Simmons
Mattisse Thybulle
Jack White
Proctor
Zikarsky

I said many times Kay should not be in the team. See what happened when he was picked in the last big tournament? Kay was close to useless and boomers was no where near medalling. Should have picked a Thon Maker, or jonah Bolden instead. The team paid the price for picking mediocre player like him. Hope the coach don't make the same mistake again.

"Kay was exposed on defence time and time in the last WC, especially against Germany and Slovenia."

The Boomers were outscored by 13 points in the 14 minutes Kay was on the bench against Slovenia (in an 11-point loss).

I'd suggest looking at the opposition offensive numbers when Kay was on vs off at the WC, there is more to defence than what's happening on the ball.

Simmons has shown as much respect for Australian basketball as Cambage, does she get another chance because she's talented? Kay can at least contribute in the national team. Simmons, like Cambage is just a spoilt brat who expects everything handed to him. Gets some adversity and can't handle it. Thybulle is better defensively than what he is now and doesn't have a debilitating back injury. And we have a reluctant shooting ball handler in Giddey. What's Simmons going to contribute to the young guys on the bench. Delly can at least bring his culture to the team, I don't think he should make it, but makes as much sense as bringing Goulding as a shooter to WC and not playing him.
A line needs to be drawn, you've either got both feet in as a boomer or you're out, no matter how talented. And the last time he contributed to any team was 4 years ago.

It seems that there are still many people who cannot come out of the past.
Now the core of the Boomers is Giddey.

Until now, the core of the Boomers was Patty. Of course, Patty was the best player, but he had teammates with good synergy who protected his weaknesses and played to his strengths.

Giddey is a completely different type of player than Patty. That's why he shouldn't be on the team on the same terms as Patty.

This is especially true in the case of Kay. Kay had good synergy with Patty.
Kay may still be a good player, but his synergy with Giddey is not good.

Patty was the best when he had the ball, but he was also the best without the ball. Kay was able to give Patty a good screen and the ball at the right time.
But Giddey needs a lot of balls himself.
A suitable player for Giddey is the type of player who has good athletic ability and can make a 3-point shot.
Kay may be a better player than White and Bolden.
However, the players who can create synergy with Giddey are White and Bolden.
You need to think about these things.

I am not simply saying that we should choose White and Bolden over Kay.

I would like to say that this generation has a different play style and type than previous generations.

We need to form a team that creates the best synergy.

The right synergy right now would be surround with shooters.(as best we can)

It might not be the perfect option, it prolly won't get us a medal and the reality is we’re probably lucky to be a top 8 team...

I think the team mostly picks itself, just a few maybes around the edges, but I like most would like to see an extra Center go probably Magnay and if we take another Center we will need a natural 4 man on the roster which would be either Simmons, Kay or White.

Patty Mills - 12 GP / 11 MIN
Jack White - 11 GP / 24.3 MIN
Jock Landale - 24 GP / 9 MIN

It is very important to maintain a sense of the actual game.
Especially because Landale is our Starting Center and Patty is an important Sixth Man.
The Boomers don't play many scrimmages against other teams, so that could definitely be a problem.

Yes that's a lot bench sitting, I just hope they pick players on form and not only reputation, it’ll be a tough assignment, if they pick form and we tank, it’ll be should have picked name players and the opposite if we pick name and they tank. Probably better with a mixture of both.

There's a few players who will likely feature in play-in or playoff action- Hunter, Zikarsky, Bannan, Henshall. But none of the major players from the contenders eg Goulding, Travers, Delly, McVeigh, Magnay etc. Not even major players from play-in teams like Sobey

Guess thats to be expected

Interesting that someone like Creek, who might fancy himself an outside chance for Paris if cards fall his way, didnt put his hand up.

Full credit to Kay for putting his hand up but he should be nowhere near paris. He was exposed at the WC. Athletically he can't compete, he can’t rotate out onto the perimeter and he was offering nothing offensively. We are going up against monsters in the Olympics, the WC had depleted rosters, missing lots of post players through injury.

Kay, Brandt and Moller with a lot young players and Bevo coaching got the job done against Japan a few years back, should be no problem. Creek has been training all week, as I said probably heading to another pay cheque, which is understandable. Kay on huge money in Japan probably doesn't need it.
