Weird that they'd send Perth over to Canberra for a Thursday game and not use the road trip for another away game on the weekend.

Spirit seemingly putting the foot on the throat early should be a cracker against Townsville.

3-0 with Griffin & Wehrung still to be added is a rather nice start to a season.
And yes that Fire game is shaping to be a goodun.

4-0 with KG yet to feature, Wehrung has played just the first game and Hannan has now missed two as well.
With KG out, Samuels has stepped up big time, her averages for ppg and rpg are more than double last year at 17.8 and 5.8.
And to think one quite voluminous commenter questioned why the Spirit even bothered to sign her at all.

Some commenters don't even want the Spirit in the league for some reason

(and yes, 4-0 sorry, not 3-0. WNBL.com.au strikes again!)

I don't think that TSV are going to let Whitcombe and especially Samuels stand on the 3 point line and rain threes on them . Samuels will need to play defence and she is foul prone . Should be a good game , Townsville have been promoting this game for a while.

Cracking game tonight with Caps unlucky in the end.

Amihere looked great and Collier couldn't buy a call from the refs.

Nice to see Nards with 20 points and looking more and more aggressive each game.

Anneli Maley with the game-winning fall-away one-hander.

Got away with one today. Pretty average by the Lynx for most of the game, but managed to be the steadier team in the 4th, including some critical O-boards.

great win by Geelong! was it 4 3's that hit the rim, then hit the top of the backboard, then somehow went it?!

Not necessarily a great quality game, but a great watch all the same.
Re: Kizer, last week she was announced as a late scratching due to illness, this week I haven't seen any kind of announcement.

Yeah they got some very friendly bounces. That's what you want in a home court!

I thought they were dead in the water but Adelaide just kinda stopped near the end of the 3rd and United reeled them in. Use some bench, Adelaide.

not sure what Goriss is doing with the Caps? Seems to want a more equal opportunity offence, but as a result, Melbourne is not taking enough shots to make them a chance to win. The bench energy is poor too.

Geelong United have 'mutually parted ways' with Kizer. I wonder if they'll try to get another import in for the rest of the season?

I wonder if Geelong will look to snap someone else up post NZ League concluding....

Caps didn't look great today. Munger only 6.5 mins off the bench was odd. Hope she is alright.

She played one game so can't judge much from that, especially as import bigs often take a few games to adjust to the reffing, etc.
Anyway, from the wording of the press release I don't think it was due to her play.

Caps and lightning need to turn it around quickly, 3 years at the bottom.
If hurst loses a few more in a row, surely she's gone...

Given the Lightning is up for sale the absence of wins will come at an even bigger cost than just Hurst's job.

Have to agree re Adelaide. Especially having two opals (albeit one emerging and one returning from injury), a wnba player and legit front court size.... Something isn't adding up.

Parity in the league is pretty good in my opinion, so it only takes one injury or underperforming star/import to change a team's fortunes.
Can't be bothered looking up the stats, but I think Adelaide actually had a pretty good record last season in the (limited) games Talbot played. Same with Bendigo Spirit last year- good record in the games Kelsey Griffin played, but missed finals because of their poor record in the games she didn't play.

Also, it seems to me as though wins and losses somehow mean less in WNBL than other leagues in terms of support, sponsors, etc.?
e g. Canberra haven't been winning much recently but appear to still have some of the biggest crowds. Even though they aren't winning they play a fun up-tempo style and compete hard, which seems to be enough to keep the fans and sponsors happy (plus it helps to have Jade as the face of the team!)

Yep, Lightning stormed (pardon the pun) home last season with the return of Talbot. I think people are underestimating what a big out young (6ft) PG Brazel is. She was instrumental for them both ends last season and is a huge loss, especially with Mansfield leaving too.
