Should Ubaka's points counted

The refs called 2 points and 3 points but no not counted call prior to seeing the replay. Should the points have counted since not all games are televised?

seemed dodgy to me how the refs went up to the commentators desk not sure if they are supposed to do that.

Some stadiums have a screen at the bench so they can check it there. Obviously cairns doesn't have that so they had no choice.

The points definitely should not have counted. If you have the ability to check the replay to make sure you reach the right result, the do it!!

Shouldn't have counted but didn't like how heal said it was over before the refs looked at it.

if the refs have concern and have a way of checking it - yes go to the screen - if the game is not televised - it is just bad luck and they make the call.

NBL rules are where the game is covered by ONE or SKY NZ the referees have the ability to check the monitor. They are only allowed to check:

Decide if a last shot for a field goal at the end of each period or each extra period was released during playing time and/or whether that shot for a field goal counts for two (2) or three (3) points.

I'll stand corrected but I'm pretty sure the ability to check whatever technology is available - which I believe includes your mobile phone if you're recording it yourself - is a FIBA rule now.

Right move. Correct decision. If there's ANY video footage and something like this happens. You check it for the correct call.

Anon, it doesn't need to be an NBL rule. It's a FIBA rule and I'll stand corrected but the principle is that unless a specific NBL rule overrides a FIBA rule, the FIBA rule stands. The NBL don't restate the three-second, travel or goal-tending rules and similarly now, it's the same in this situation.

Article 46.12: (The referee shall .....) Be authorised to approve and use the technical equipment, if available, to decide, before he signs the scoresheet, if a last shot for a field goal at the end of each period or each extra period was released during playing time and/or whether that
shot for a field goal counts for two (2) or three (3) points.

They made a correct decision. Very exciting finish.

if we can bitch when they get it wrong, we can applaud them when they get it right and that they did.

The Karma Gods were active tonight. Ubaka made the decision to leave the Taipans for Tigers. Absolutely stoked at the result of this game, too bad we couldn't do it against Sydney in both overtime games.
