Worst NBL player of all time

The Grasshopper....was his name Peter Lewis?, played for the Melbourne Tigers. I think he was the first 7 footer in the league. He sucked!

Brad Pinneau

Kim Taylor

Well, were do we start? You would have to have modern era, early NBL. Are you talking Americans, Australians, naturalised players, Rookies that shouldn't have made teams. It is avery complicated topic. The Grasshopper was one of the first footers and he was okay. A great bloke which helps as well but he could play and had some good games. Brad Pinneau would be up there. But he was at least a big body. Geelong had a few imports that were terrible, who was the big guy who played like 5 games and fouled out of every one... Ah, Ronnie Cavenell. HOPELESS. I'm sure there is a lot more.

Aubery Sherrod. Import for Geelong, a guard that couldn't dribble.

You seriously have to be joking if you say Jason Williams. Just because you don't like him didn't make him a useless player.

Imports:

Paris Mcurdy - all he could do was set a screen.

Kim Taylor for sure - he came off the bench for south and he was in the sixers squad ???

Grasshopper was Peter Walsh. He was in the 1976 & 1980 Olympic teams and 1978 World Championship team so he probably wasn't all that bad in those years.
His time at Melb in the NBL was '84 - 88 so he would have been well past his prime by then.

Didnt Taylor have a porno mo? If he's the guy I'm thinking of, the mo was good, but he was shite!

Yeah Taylor had a mo. Poor guy just got tarred with coming "from a US college". Uni of Hawaii or something? Hardly a basketball powerhouse. He was crap but at least he gave his all.

Tim Brenton was amazing when he could get on the court. Remember that game where he went off for about 15 points in a couple of minutes hitting shots from the absolute carpark? Unfortunately pre youtube :-(

I'll ask Tim next time I see him. Played against my bro and state with him.

How would I get in contact with Peter Walsh? I believe he married my cousin Gayle. I live in the USA, but i lived in Melbourne in the early 1970s

Showron Glover is the worst import I can recall in the modern era that wasn't cut after the 1st training session and played a number of games.

did we count some of those Melbourne Tigers bench/developments guys as NBL players when Al Westover was coach?

A few of them saw the court once or twice and where terrible!

Aaah, Paris McCurdy. Came over talking a big game. I remember when he suited up for Centrals when games were on Wednesday nights and it was Billy Fikes 1st game. We had played game before and hung around because rumour was Billy had some big dunks in reserves the night or week before. But all he did in layup line were finger rolls and jumpshots, until out of nowhere he came in and did a windmill dunk that Dominique would have been proud off. McCurdy started talking shit to him from the tipoff, 5 dunks on his head later he finally stopped chirping. Doubt he troubled the scorer that much as well that night, the great Jerry Dennard scored more.
He would be a below average import in current NBL1 central.

Scott Christopherson says hi. Showron at least had a few decent games. Christopherson was just straight trash. Averaged 2.9/1.9/0.4 on 28% shooting in 14 games. Including a 16 point game.
Statistically, Darington Hobson had the worst career team results wise. Played 13 games this season and Illawarra lost all but his first game. Averaged 6/4/4 on 28% shooting.

Westside Melbourne I think it was had some horrors,Big Joe whatever his name was from Oakleigh Wolves, got a run I think, nice guy but would have been about 108 when he played, truth be known he is probably still playing,as for Paul Rees,4 titles,Grand Final MVP,late start to basketball,so not the opportunity kids get now,had a great career,1500 worse than him at a minimum
