Exactly, west seem like a tight core group. Southern seem to have great sponsorship and unless Alex is really pissed off, who cares about rest at North, they'd be bottom 3 without him.
Does anyone know when the Summer reserves season starts, heard they're going back to 13 game season. Would imagine most squads would start training soon so the coaches should get announced soon.
Southern to fall off & miss finals? North as stated above will be fine as long as they have Alex, his teams have never missed finals. West would want to retain Kubank and Thomas to stay competitive or get Spear back.
Think South and Sturt will be the big improvers.
How are some clubs going to cope with the proposed new by laws including salary caps and minimum playing times for restricted players? Will be interesting if the "poorer" clubs vote for these changes to rein in the Norwood's, Forestvilles and Tigers of this world

South men's reserves have started and trainings already look good. Noticed a few peeps from other clubs out there.
Women started a few weeks ago and they have picked up a couple of players as well. South women are starting from a long way back but look like they will be competitive this season.
Obviously two new coaches for the programs as noted previously.
Haha love how people think southern are out of money. Incorrect! They still have it, but have chosen to spend it on a big 3 combo. 3 players who have all been all-star 5 and 2 of those were league MVP's! Southern to win the men’s again next season
Wow, that was inciteful spelling a players name in capitals and spaces inbetween. Or is it the average Southern fans IQ test to spell players names, Sam's must have been too hard and got confused because didn't know if Johns was first name or surname.
The new southern president who replaced the one that was removed won't allow all this spending to continue, women’s coach been told her budgets been slashed I imagine the men’s coach would have been told the same. I will say deano will go running to a new JDO position as soon as one comes available

Have heard the same and that while coming in all guns blazing he has seen what many didn't know about at committee and club level that the hard work is unrewarded and people without any idea at committee level want to make decisions without consultation and communication still.
And what is the issue with Hatchard moving clubs ? Most senior players have or will at some point change clubs for whatever reason that is relevant to them. Its life. If you watch anything other than local basketball then negative comments about player movement is hypocrisy because you are watching players who have all made moves that fit or give opportunity or was the only opportunity at that time. Stop making judgements for the sake of it and get a life or at least think beyond what is in front of your nose and expand your ideas and understanding of moves in isolation or as part of a bigger picture. Be smart and think a little. Should I write a list of all players movements in the local comp and your movements perhaps too ?
Wow you are really excited you think you got me and believe loyalty is that important that it controls your life and actions and lays judgement on others. Clearly moves by others has had a negative affect on you my friend as you are in here and they are not. Sad for you living in your bubble of your own reality. And no I am old and played for one club and retired but have many friends in many clubs and all make decisions that are relevant to them and the environment they are in. Not everyone is in the same situation and that is how life rolls. It is you that has been hit with a raw nerve targeting one player about their move. Maybe it is the likes of you that are behind their decisions to move. Good luck to them, not everyone has been as lucky as you so it seems person who emphasises with a capital S.
And the problem is ? She was older when he came on the scene so not like he moved in when she was little so an independent woman with her own ability to make decisions. Step dad term probably not appropriate more like mums boyfriend. Nothing to see here.
No matter the coaching appointment, if your roster is trash, you're gonna be hampered. Too much separation between the top and bottom teams in both the men and women’s because some teams have neglected player development or neglected their senior program.
News from Woodville womens first training last night, the new coach was unveiled to them and used his initial speech to inform the ladies that they would be coaching themselves until January.
"If you need me, I'll be on the golf course", were his words.
Interesting take considering the state of the Womens program recently. I'd have thought it would be a perfect opportunity to take charge now and really try to get those ladies working to his game styles etc.
Until they get a coach that wants to take Womens basketball serious, unfortunately I fear for that side of the club.
Tracey has no juniors to develop. That ship sailed long ago. No u18 girls team last year, hardly have one this year. Forestville had 4 u18s playing PL - 2 of them starters. (Not sure the next crop will be as good though). Can t blame Tracey for poor club management and development. Might have to poach juniors from somewhere else to get the no cost players - just like many of the other clubs. Be thankful they aren't Woodville!
SA has plenty of quality coaches, problem is if you're not in the cool kids group and if you don’t agree with the whole every team should run the same programme you don’t get a look in on any state positions which then in turn affects your ability to get PL jobs
The whole State thing is such an elitist club. Been stale for too long and needs new ideas and fresh blood in there. Instructions on how to run teams is sent from top and trickles down, is flow still the in thing???
High performance manager should have a 5 year contract and then should be replaced, then they can go off and not have a conflict of interest at private schools. Problem with a lot of clubs is that committees have no idea about basketball, see on a resume something about being involved in a state program and think they have to be amazing coach. Shudder to think how one of the new PL coaches will go, can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag but gets hired. Too many sycophants at state all worried about brown nosing than actually bringing in new perspectives.
In reality, if south pickup a couple of really good imports to go with Mckendrick and 1 or 2 role players that would put them above centrals and woodville. Lions nothing without their imports and interesting to see fall out with woodvilles appointment of coach.
From what I can gather Tracey doesn't realise most of the girls play for the love of the game and a bit of pocket money, expects full time commitment, video review sessions, you name it, not sure it’s 8 first team players, mckendrick and Kinross gone
most dont even get fuel costs
premier league games during season, possibly reserves or 23's also then train twice a week, anyone expecting video review sessions on top of this, plus work or uni has rocks in their head.
and all that with all the cash and only 1 championship to show for it in 3 years
Why is it bash Tracey. She was appointed by the club. She brought far more professional attributes to the program. Players happy to play for her but something not apparently right now. My how worm has turned. Clearly some players looking for greener easier pastures.
What professional attributes did she bring? Recruited heavily with no junior development at all. Four years with a stacked team and not enough to show for it.
The worm hasn't turned its just the players are fed up with her and are now showing it by walking out or simply just quitting basketball.
So if it hasn't turned then explain what has happened to the worm? The worm has maintained its course but the course was incorrect to begin with? Was it the wrong type of worm? Did the worm get dug up and used for fishing bait? Did someone throw some Combantrin into the mix and incapacitate the worm?
The people need answers.
so you're saying Brine and Drmic were on more than SEABL imports and since tiger also had 2 imports and johns they would have there for spent over 50-60k
you blokes are either taking the Pi$$ or have no clue how much players get paid, unless you hear it directly from the player or the coach you are all dreaming
Don't forget the Johns Mansion at Hackham West, paid for by both Southern and the Sixers, not sure on the split by the two though wether 50/50 , 60/40 etc
I think Sams still hoping for Larkins to come on board at Southern though in time to get his pool put in in time for summer by Larkins dad
The Johns mansion jokes remain a poor deflection from the poorly kept secret that Tigers spend ALOT more than every other club. Anyone that is involved in Premier League knows the deal.
Jonnek Norths best Aussie hey, I doubt those at North see it that way..
At Norwood Lycett would be highest, Standbridge got $10k, McGriff was on $5-8, other import was nothing (didn't play much either), Webber boys are on good wicket and Drew is VP so wouldn't be paid much. Drmic was going to go to the Flames originally but Southern chucked $30k at him and Norwood couldn't even come close. And no one else would be getting paid. So how can that even come close to Southern. Forestville would be the next highest, then its daylight to Norwood and West.
Build a program???? Recruit 2 36ers, have one play token minutes to manipulate the system, have the coach tell everyone he won't play finals because he won't qualify, then put forward a bullshit case to a piss weak bsa to let him play finals. Most disgraceful act in living memory. How is that building a program???
I dislike Southern as much as the next bloke, but aren't Johns, Staude, Brine and Ellison all Southern juniors?
So of their top six, four are juniors and two are imports?
Then after that were three Sturt juniors in Brurns, Dodman and Fricken?
...Or am I completely wrong???
So a recap, Southern men get paid shitloads, their women hate Tracey, South are spending big trying to copy tigers, North lost a replaceable starter and pick up a Woodville bench player who apparently is better. Forestville, whilst not cheats, went against the spirit of the game and Andy sells his soul. But only Eagle fans think it OK. Everyone else is fairly quiet.
Tigers still be team to beat. Eagles be always there. South may be big improves. Hope few more sixers get gigs to showcase. Teys shown how form confidence gained through solid season is beneficial. Get more into club land.dont be surprised to see couple extras suiting.
Where's all the money come from at the South Adelaide Poachers? Do they have it or are they just throwing numbers at other clubs guys hoping they can land a couple?
can anyone confirm who they are actually trying to poach. Am aware Jonnek from North chased the green. Any other confirmed offers or signings? Who else is on their hit list. Someone at Poacher land must've won the lottery. Bet Al wished he had access to this much alleged cash for his program.
If all you haters could do a better job then why didn't you apply? Thing is you probably did and didn’t get it that’s why there is so much sour comments on here. Give the guy a chance to rebuild the non-existent culture there and show his worth.
Mrs Petty, doubt many did go for it and he probably got it by promising he could get some southern bench players over. Facts are he got sacked from Centrals under 16 div 2 girls so that tells you the calibre. So give Jamie a big hug, tell him not to listen to the bad people and that he is a good boy and he'll get an extra spoon of Milo in his milk.
Do you South Australians realise that travel in involved in every other senior semi-pro state league in the country, and that your Meteo senior league is the exception here? Amazes me that travelling a few hours away once a season could possibly be such a massive deal. The resistance to progress is one of the reasons your state league is so far behind all the others and why the game isn't growing in SA.
Anon #423 so convinced you're right you had to post the same thing twice?
SA is different to other states. Population base is different. Obviously that has an impact. All State Leagues across all sports in SA are Metro based because about 75% of South Australian's are Metro based. This is different to every other state in Australia. This is why SA is different.
Talent Pool in turn is different. Even MtG recruit Metro players to build a viable team. Are you suggesting SA should become all of state based just for the visuals but force city based players to relocate or commute to play for a Country based team?
SA has twice tried Country based teams in the State League. Both times they collapsed due to non-competitiveness and cost.
The game is growing in SA. Stats prove it is growing. Your claim otherwise is false.
Hahahhhahaa you are kidding yourselves if you think premier league teams could hang with SEABL teams. Tigers would be able and maybe west/Norwood but you have a very delusion perception of premier league compared to others. The players in SEABL and QBL are deeper and better. Sam Johns went to Logan and didn't do much, yet dominates here
I am proud of our league, but I would have to agree that our teams cannot be compared to SEABL/QBL. I think the depth of teams in those leagues are greater as their benches are far stronger and Imports are quality. Maybe our top teams could compete with the lower end teams in those leagues, but wouldn't stand a chance against the top-mid range sides
Seriously folks. Success is equal to % of population playing basketball and that means melbourne/victoria are always going to be stronger 4-10 fold so stop bragging Eastern states and all the rest celebrate success that is statistically harder to achieve so worth celebrating when it comes. There is also an economic factor as well and that again leaves SA/NT & Tassie behibd the 8 ball. Perspective people. It's just basketball.
Jamie won a couple of games at Nationals goiyby the website. I know that's not great but he probably really didn't have any competition for the South job. $$ give you talent in PL but putting that talent together and coming up with an effective formula that works is another. Club culture is something else entirely and will take more than a decent PL program.
Time will tell in this case and there are a few clubs with experienced coaches that starts below Jamie before he has drawn up his first play!!
And there lies a problem for Metro. They are soaking up talented Country players who have a mountain of opportunity comparatively per head of player to metro players. And now those players are now taking positions for metro players to develop within teams and stronger competition. This showed at Nationals with Country placing higher than Metro and winning in matchups in the junior mens. In the long run this will have its down side for metro. There needs to be limits and equity. An example is the no of teams in development teams for that tiny country population is double that of an exponentially larger population in the metro region. At this age group that is locking in the same players with no fluidity to the program. The net loss will be to other sports or leaving basketball all together. This has to be contributing to lower numbers in many clubs in senior and youth league competition. In turn the strength of SA is weakened. Then of course there is the politics and a varying defintition of what makes a good player vs what mkes a good team. The latter being ignored to develop selected few at the expense of the State. And that is where our reputation is laid. End of rant.
Woodville, can't develop players so let's buy them. Amazed Whitmore still has a job, hasn't he only got a team in finals once at centrals. His record is terrible, a lot worse than others that have been fired, but still has a job because his mates are on committee.
Early pre season predictions for the men...
Should be an easy win with the suspected trio of Johns/Drimic/Turnage. will be to good with the exemption of a doctors certificate.
If not for the West Adelaide upset of 2017 would you agree this southern dynasty would be the best run our state league has seen? Credit to coach Nyberg building this one from the ground up.
Rumour has it East are targeting 2017 Halls Medalist Eian Davis but then again we all thought they were targeting Brooks, Typical bush league type stuff. With Cornerstone Seb Vozzo looking around east might be in for a tough year once again.
Norwood have opened their pockets and their hearts and poached Brandon Brine for the up coming season apparently for around $1000 per game. will be hoping to have a good season to get back to that Southern pay cheque rumoured to be upwards of $1500 per game.
North once again haven't learnt their lesson that paying Starling's mates to keep him happy after CJ Reeds 4/26 finals performance. But here we are they have brought in James peters and from reports is the second highest earner at north. Only reason to be out at Hilcrest it seems this year is to potentially catch Hawkes taking out his frustrations on the opposing teams import with his signature right hook.
What ever happened to Daniel Simms?
Wondered when Norwood would open up the vault. But is he going to start at the 4, no way in the world Daniel Webber or Lycett give up the 2/3. Is McGriff going to be back? Are they going to get a proper second import, would have thought they would be cheaper and better than Brine.
So over the trash talk about players here players being paid. All these experts who claim they know. Knocking andy knocking deano knocking hawkes.weird claims about player payment the so called self importance of you trolls is beyond belief. Look at the success of tigers consistency of andy. Competitive passionate solid performers. They just quietly produce season after season.no big noting. Think find north are on way up.peters adds skill set to allow heat off starling.brine might've headed to north. Money not always the reason.
Dumbass, I think you'll find money is always the reason. Drmic had committed to kb at Norwood but when Southern offered him $30k they couldn't match. You think Brine is thinking about anything else but money you're kidding yourself. And eagles have always paid huge, you think DJ would have stepped on court for seconds for free???? As well as Teys??? Even Peters who was an OK reserves player to even get petrol money to move is absurd. Don't even get me started on Standbridge from last year and his $10k.
Produce season after season, what had Southern done in last decade until the chequebook came out. Forestville miss playoffs, suddenly a bunch of sixers want to play there.
Grow up and look at the facts before talking crap about God at Forestville and Jesus at southern.
#261 actually just because its said here doesn't make it true. Players need to be paid but many find the right coach, the right team, the right culture, the right role/opportunity are just as important.
Players at that level often play to play with mates too. Money isn't everything to these guys.
Cash Rules Everything Around Me! $15-20 grand a season they going there. Might take a discount for some factors but ultimately money talks.
How many teams DJ played for? I believe West, South, Sturt and Forestville. Not too worried about culture or coaches, just the dollar bills!
Dumbass 2 money factor assist players to make a move but note players are looking at going to success driven teams. That's where andy Dean are now the bench marks. Like it or not players are attracted to their programs. They like the winning at all cost attitude. Success driven. In it to win it. Norwood gave themselves real shot by astute recruiting to fill a need. Johnson will play where chance to be legit is real.
Again let's trash players for playing hard and being loyal to own club. People don't like the Webber only because they play with passion. Remain loyal. So brine gets bagged for moving. Webber get bagged for being loyal. So tell me what you guys want.andy loyal to eagles. Kb switched clubs and gets bagged. Tracey brings success but thats not good enough. So confusing.
Some of these players need to recognise they are not professional basketballers. If you aren't signed to an NBL 10 then you do not play professionally in Australia.
If you are an Aussie in Premier League, get a job and support yourself and stop attempting to extort these amateur clubs for all they have. Once again you ARE NOT professionals because YOU haven't made it. Simple.
I personally rate, very highly, loyalty and commitment to your club. Wouldn't want ANY of these over rated, non-professionals who are nothing short of hired mercenaries anywhere near my club.
As for the constant bagging of coaches on here by the "experts", I doubt you can actually comprehend the time and effort spent coaching Premier League for very little financial compensation. These guys do it because they love it and most are pretty good coaches overall.
So dust the Doritos chips from your manboobs, get off your ass and away from your keyboard for a bit, have a shower and get a life. No-one cares what you think. Some opinions aren't worth sharing.
520 well said. Not a lot anybody can say in response to that summary. Very correct. Get off coaches backs and hired mavericks stop bleeding clubs dry. Clubs start thinking about members first not egos. Cricket held accountable now for lack ofmorale compass. Some heading that way here or already have crossed the not in the spirit of the game.
#520, I see what you're saying but players like Brine who have put in the work and played overseas (getting paid) have set a precedent for themselves, if he's played overseas, gotten paid and is better than the vast majority of forwards in PL, then let him get paid. That being said, there are a few guys in PL who are possibly fringe NBL guys/DP level players that could be making some coin too. Get off these guys, they deserve to make money because of how much time they've put into their craft.
"Only reason to be out at Hilcrest it seems this year is to potentially catch Hawkes taking out his frustrations on the opposing teams import with his signature right hook."
Mmmmm. From my memory Hawkes took a right cross and responded with a bang kick. how time muddies clarity.
as for the rest of your statement regarding Starlings mates, shut up you are an idiot.
Took the right cross after Ridgeway b-lined the North bench and got directly in Hawkes' face clapping and taunting him like a 5 year old. Wasn't running past you liar. I would have pushed him away as well. Then followed up by striking a coach.
Many of us at North have had access to the video, as have some at West but keep spreading lies about how Hawkes "ran on the court and pushed Ridgeway in the back".
From what I understand the tribunal didn't appreciated that lie either when they saw the video.
Two years ago
Sam Woosnam will be great for the league and attract many players without a doubt Boti will coach under Sam's guidance as he loves her he'd have articles written about her nearly every day in the advertiser. Sam Niece might finally get recognized for something now that Sam's back in town the kid beats girls every week that are making state and rep teams. Seem BSA follow an approach if your siblings are good your in.
Thought I'd check back in on this thread. Any more player movements? Someone give us some power rankings. Heard Southern have created a big 3 and West have signed a power-forward import to replace/pair?? with Tobias Dowdell. Lycett was injured for a while last season, will he be healthy? South have snagged a couple of club movers it appears. Is Sturt going to go with the usual route of playing junior talent with one import signing? Will they snag Tom Daly? Starling getting another go round with North?
Young Utah Star Jarryd Hoppo currently injured with a dramatic finger, is said to dominate the glass averaging 15 boards with a cheeky 20 points. Big things for this young star! Rumour to rattle chains with Alex Starlings possible wollacot medal in the 2019 season!
Heard Woodville are cashed up after Scotty went to committee begging for money so they wouldn't suck. Maybe if he tried developing juniors instead of poaching he might do better. And also doing some coaching. Hopefully Osbourne rubs off and shows how it's done.
So you done over Dean done over andy done over mavs and south. Done over hawkes done over Whitmore. No one cares about Centralia. So Norwood and sturt seem to be the bench marks. Sure west will be next. Let's not forget Tracey. Must be hard being such a coaching guru with such high standards. Would seem nothing is good enough.
The rankings would all be farely close. No clear leader of the pack. PL is poorly run, led and coached.
Here are my thoughts:
So only south and Knoxville were poor. So you rate eagles maves north locals highly do you. Tigers are only genuinely strong local content with Norwood. West have good local group as well. Obviously imports become key as really most local content to be honest break even against each other if you have unbias informed knowledgeable view. Harris johns Webber for sure work ethic Thomas long Simpson kubank sapwell Doyle all solid performers. All clubs have. Stop being so negative.
My bad. Webber there commitment to club. Play hard - don't tell me that club doesn't mean something to guys of that ilk. Or the club is poor of talent. Same truslove - plenty others. Agree lycett johns are amongst local guns. Give credit to the heart and soul core group at each club. There passion. Won't be some flippant with the poor comment if realise what ball means to these guys.
There are a lot of young kids at college and coming through that would be major impact players at Premier League level.
The Jimma kid from Centrals being one, Harris from Forestville being another both play under good coaches that will develop and teach them, know the game, and will be far better than Johns.
The problem is with the standard of coaching and ability to develop them for higher levels will see the bulk of them head interstate for state league level comp.
I haven't heard of Forestville signing anyone. Unless they’re that high based on the fact Andy generally gets together a good side.
Woodville will be higher than listed. Stanbridge is a big in plus two imports. I think they have the best frontcourt of any team but will have a young back court.
Lets not get too excited about West. They did well to win last time but played Norwood with an injured import and then because Dean cant make adjustments in game, beat them by just running pick and roll and let Dee make foul line jumpshots. And lets not forget Drmic choked. So hardly would count them as favourites.
To be fair South's women are looking OK in summer league, picked up a couple players and if they get decent imports they may end up middle of table.
As to cheatgles, imagine a grown person still reacting and defending them. Still hitting a nerve they sold their soul for runners up trophies.
Nah, not losing any sleep. Reasons why they went to forestville are a) central location so they could play together, b) money and c) only coach that is unscrupulous enough to let DJ suit up and then get piss weak bsa to let him play finals. Pretty simple really.
Nah you are wrong about North. Returning visas aren't what they were 3 years ago. A club can sponsor the returning player and it costs very little. There was a change in the visa rules in 2017 and North were on it early in 2017 with Alex and Aric Miller.
3 people got paid at North, Alex, Atem and CJ, as that is the budget they are given, and it is equal to the women's budget.
Norths budget has been nothing like Southern, Forestville and Norwood. That's the truth.
The truth is you're deliberately omitting part of Starling's salary. I get why: he's a JDO in addition to being a PL player, and should be paid for both roles. But don't try that BS about your PL budgets being less than the aforementioned clubs.
I didn't state it was completely separate, because it's not. Nobody's believing Alex would play for just the amount he's 'technically' being paid for PL if his wage wasn't being supplemented by the JDO role. Therefore they aren't separate, and your comments on the Men's PL budget is a matter of semantics.
Again, this is fine: it makes sense for both parties. You're still BS'sing by omitting these facts though. If you're okay with that then cool, but you're not fooling anyone.
I heard Jason didn't like vozzo's play style and he just wanted to have a break as he had an unsuccessful college bout. He fractured his foot halfway through the youth league season and still played on it, so still sidelined i'm guessing. He was training at west and is now back training with mavs, guessing it didn't go too good with west, they are getting paddy T back so makes sense
Bit awkward, leaving to another team after saying he didn't want to play for mavs, trains with west, not make it then head back to Eastern. Surely this would put him further in the doghouse. Surely if he was any good another team would pick him up to bolster bench. What's the deal, bad attitude? Mavs still a basket case.
Vozzo is a decent enough kid but has an extremely high opinion of his ability! YL is like a social B grade comp at Hillcrest so scores at this level mean nothing especially when he had the ball in his hands 99% of the time and did not pass.
Mavericks let anyone and I mean anyone train or be part of their squad so if there are any social players looking for a game they will accommodate. Not a great culture and Vozzo bagged the hell out of the coach and club last season and has now returned with his tail between his legs.
The kid had averaged 35 or something and if what was said above is true on a broken foot... YL may be watered down but that mavericks team was sub par, he needed to take the shots for them to have a chance. I watched them play southern they won and he would've had 50+ i don’t know many social players doing that. Kid looked ABL level easily to me
Vozzo's mates need to get off this forum as it only makes the kid look bad. Dont mention YL as its the biggest joke in the past 10 years. Let him work out the club and coach that fits for him to better himself. Mavs are not that club and he is well aware of that so cut him some slack.
Dont think the kid needs hype. From the looks of it he is doing pretty much all he can at mavs for what the team has to offer him. Which inst much. Not saying it is much to begin with, but im sure if he goes anywhere else he would be an above average player. Rumor has it south and west wanted him. As far as u23 game goes. I hear he is back training with mavs in the pre-season.
Most of Eastern's players shopped themselves around and still are over the silly season. The culture at Mavs is terrible and it is like rats escaping a sinking ship as its not a "destination club" for players unless you have no other options left
So from what I am hearing here it seems that Mavs, Centrals, Woodville and Sturt not to improve too much. Southern still strong, Norwood stronger with some additions, Forestville no idea depends on what rabbits are left in the hat. West a completely different shape but still looking strong, South looking for improvement with additions to their squad and North likely to slip a bit with losses of a couple of starters. What do people think?
The bottom half of the ladder will be dictated by imports. None were really consistent last year and in sturts case they had none after Garth left. What was story with that, heard he was just a dickhead.
If north had lost starling, they would be in the bunch with them, so if a couple add some guns then it will be interesting.
Rumours already floated here say Legan and Brine to Norwood and Davis to Eastern, that confirmed officially?
Norwood will rely on the Webbers and Lycett again, losing Stanbridge will hurt in terms of a good role player. Normally they trott the old boys out in summer but only been cameos by Lycett and D Webber hence the record.
Heard Eastern are after 2 big imports. Dont think Davis is going to land at eastern. Ribgy is fairly toxic, watched eastern beat forestville in reserves. Maybe 10 secs to go he is getting sent off, up by like 15 points, Wont be surpised if sturt toss him.
If true, looks like North have decided to fight fire with fire. Can't say I blame them after the Southern, Forestville and co's spending the last few years. Not to forget the SEABL team entering the comp.
Going to be a great season as Premier League continues to grow.
^ it is a PL thread and they are now in the PL!
Can they put a decent women's team on the floor, not having a team in SEABL so starting from scratch? Should be able to spend a fair bit on the girls, which might attract a few, but will they get enough quality to compete with the top teams?.
Will be interesting how they work budget out. Whilst big it isn't infinite plus paying the travel expenses will put a big hole in it. Their men's budget will probably reduce but will they spend to have a winning women's team, a competitive one or just one that makes the numbers up. Doubt they'll attract players to relocate there, my guess they might try and attract some locals here and pay their travel costs. But bit of a joke if their team doesn't even live in mt Gambier. And if it's just for a year why bother building up a team.
BJ will drive Starling nuts. Another one of Joeys development guards that have a bit of flash but no substance. He played for South in summer last year before doing his knee and was all about going one on one all the time. And is McVeigh story real, heard he was going home.
Comparing BJ, do any of you experts actually know the guy, to Sims is funny. Do they look the same to you or something?
The Rockets are getting desperate by signing an NBL DP to bolster their backcourt, that sentance doesn't even make sense.
BJ is very respectful and willing to learn, two things that were seriously lacking in Dim Sims.
Think BJ will surprise a few after watching him firsthand scrimmaging with the Rockets over Christmas.
So watching BJ for a few scrimmages over Xmas confirms you know his personality, yet you question if other people know him. Good luck to the kid but I think he'll struggle with North's coaches style. Then again he must be a step up over CJ, never got in shape unless you consider round a shape.
So McVeigh has signed or is that a beat up?
I thought Pioneers agreed not to approach any current PL players as part of their inclusion in the PL for 2019?
I understand Deng played with Pioneers last year, but he also left early in the year and most recently played a double header for Forestville.
Would be very interesting to see if he plays with the Mount...
I was one of the previous posters regarding Mays, BJ and McVeigh.
Was correct re: BJ. Mays was announced on facebook shortly after, but I don't know what has happened since (if anything). North outbid other clubs for McVeigh, so my guess is he's still signed given they hinted on facebook at some big announcements coming soon - although this could have changed if he received a better offer interstate.
GTFOH that they were just lucky to sign those players and didn't spend money. Maybe tell their players not to talk about how much they getting paid.
Wow, first week in January and we already have the dumbest comment, Southern were just lucky to sign players!!!
To me it is fairly obvious what is happening down Southern way. They are cash strapped and pay peanuts to their men's program but there is a queue of players lining up outside Dean Nyberg's office wishing to be coached by Coach N!!!
It is the only conclusion you can draw!
#726 North give the men and woman the exact same amount from the club for both programs. Fact.
What those teams fundraise and bring in with sponsors to supplement their program is up to them. Don't know if this is how other clubs work but I can confirm that the men's team does not receive an extra dollar from the club compared to the girls. The rest is brought in by hard work fundraising and canvassing for sponsors. What they raise here is theirs and theirs alone. Hope this helps you to understand.
Thank you #579, finally a decent insight of how a club works. Who does the sponsorship and fundraising, is there a committee or do the players have to organise themselves? Are there levels of sponsorship and what do they get for their money, would imagine Alex's would be more than one of the young kids on bench.
Think most teams are keeping cards close to chest, Norwood have been pretty quiet despite rumours. Probably the only top 5 team that hasn't made any announcements, west looks like they're staying Pat. Will forestville gamble on dj again. Sturt apparently not going with any imports.
Whoa cowboy, team to beat. Have Alex and then who? BJ is a good signing but young, can he handle pressure. McVeigh is still a rumour, good scorer but again how will he fit in. Then there's the other import spot, what will they go for?
Mt Gambier has experience and will bring in better players and imports. Norwood and West have pretty settled local veterans, Forestville if they keep Teys will be up there. Then it's a huge gap.
Are you kidding. Southern is number one. North won't get second import but look good with additions and the rest of last years starting group
Maybe they are keeping second import spot open so can get a cameo appearance from another NBL restricted player - you heard it here!!!!
Norwood will be strong. Actually may be favourites
Mount gambier have one player signed tom Daly , all of the others jumped ship weeks and months ago , yes richard hill has experience but the team is rebuilding from scratch
They will be hopeful to resign Eric burden once back from holidays .
They need a completely new team,
6 experienced players from last year all gone.
We are now close to mid January and most of not all quality players are signed , I hope they use this experience you talk about to piece together a competitive group
Woodville Women's Team have already got one import in the country. Started training monday night. Getting on the front foot at least, working her into the new coaches system nice and early. Looked very sharp from all reports, making Perkas look like a benchie when matched up.
I'm not sure how it is different from last year. Apart from Starling starting five included 3 other players bought in or from other clubs - Atem, CJ and Jonnek. Only North junior starting was Schild
This year they have lost Atem, CJ and Jonnek. Only confirmed signing to replace them is BJ though rumours about McVeigh and no news of a second import. How is that stacked compared to last year?
Anyone know the real reason May's is out, one minute he's in and announced, next he's disappeared. Did they realize McVeigh could be available and decide to go for him then get a cheap import? Still too many unknowns for them to be considered a chance, Starling is easily best player in league and makes them competitive. Take him out and they're cellar dweller.
I personally dont see how norwood will be successful this year. Yes with Legan they now have a stacked backcourt joining webbers, lycett and some youth. However they have no bigs at all, just brine and long? standbridge gone, wernham gone, spurrit gone, no mcgriff? they have no depth or height in their frontcourt at all, so really struggle to see them competing.
West not too different to Southern are they? Yep every teams has add ons but Tigers have a core of juniors and long term seniors just like west.
Johns, Staude, Ellison, Ficken, Davies, Catford, Barton, Williams have all played a role at different times over the past few years. Plus Smyth, Turner, Peacock who has played for Tigers previously and come back over this period.
I don't think Southern have more of their juniors playing than other clubs but I don’t think they’re any worse than other clubs either.
i dont get the whole its better if home grown why? juniors players might choose to play at a different club for multiple reasons and if they are restricted or criticized or the senior club is that is unfair. The player might move for more opportunity ie at their junior club there is gun player in their role only a year older and will never be playing above said player and move for more opportunity. they may move to the other side of town for work/study/relationship or whatever making staying with junior club impracticable. they want to play at same club as best mate or partner. it would rarely be for player payments. i dont get why this whole notion of it is better if win and its with your juniors. surely a successful junior program is not based on whether your juniors play successfully for your senior teams.
Webber will have a hard time coaching that group , his assistant rojo won't be much help , I tip a fist fight at practice within first 2 weeks and then one at least every other week
Maybe even one during a game when Webber yells at rojo to sub brine or legan our because they are taking bad shots
PL is crap we need better players better teams
PL Clubs are bad recruiting players in to make their teams better
If a club's juniors wanted to stay at the club and play and were good enough they would stay and play.
To make the League better clubs need to recruit better players than just their own local junior players and together teams will play at a higher level which is what we really all should be asking of the clubs and the league.
Warhurst go coach social somewhere
Mavs are a basket case
You need to be able to coach men like men not like boys and not the way the partner treats people
Learn to relationship build then you might attract players
Was hoping for a whole club change admin but alas not so
Worse if that's even possible
The women’s coach will ride on the back of some previous junior coaches hard work and will be ok
South men’s coach doesn’t deserve a mention as is a pure joke
Can only blame Southern and the Cheatgles for Norths response.
On a more positive note, with all these announcements from a number of clubs it would appear we are in for a great Premier League season. Mt Gambier in, going to be some pretty decent ball to check out this NBL off-season.Game on.
North have seriously gone out very aggressive. Are they on verge of a dynasty with new stadium.to grow further. Very strong numbers which only can build. Progressive and aggressive leadership determined to move club to next level. Seems to be a destination club for players. They clearly have no problems selling there program. Massive growth area. North to be king for long time.
