SEM Strategy in the Final Round

So if you're SEM...

Do you deliberately go easy against NZ, and in doing so keep your players as fresh as possible to win the last throw-up of the season? All in the hopes of screwing over your rivals?

Or do you try to help your fellow Melbournians out, by throwing everything at the Breakers?

And if it does come down to that final game of the season,
do they want to see a Melbourne team in the finals, or do they do everything possible to keep United out???

If Creek is injured he won't be playing as much as he would want too

"If Creek is injured he won't be playing as much as he would want too"
Good Point, Huge Point. So do SEM rest him for game one and keep him off the plane, and hope he can play some in the throw-down?

United need to beat Cairns first. They're 0 and 3 against them, so not sure they’re favourites.
If United win, then maybe SEM should let NZ win by 50 to build some genuine bad blood between the Melbourne teams, and add some spice to the derbies...

I hope they do everything possible to keep United out.

Simon Mitchell will do a favour to his old Melb boys. Book it
Larry to give a bonus to SE Melb for a 30 pt loss

There is no way SEM will risk Creek if injured

SEM had a chance to make play off but the GM gets a big F for fail on the Benson replacement import and the time it took.

Benson should have been replaced by round 4/5 but instead they waited until the season was pretty much cooked.

Pineau is a solid back up but they needed to go get a starting 5 man import once everyone realized that Benson wasn't up to it instead they waited to long and then went and signed a wing who they never play?

Players aren't going to be thinking during a game, "I should save energy this game so we have a better shot of winning next game"

Many of SEM's guys will be fighting for a roster spot next season, they will give it their best both games.

If Creek is injured then United have a better chance of a big win.
Would possibly rule Creek out of Fiba games too.

They should go into both games with the exact same intent and desire to win.
No player, or coach, is going to go head to NZ thinking 'lets save our energy for United'

Creek is the key, he plays and is fit SEM are a chance, he's not fit or doesn’t play there gone.

"Players aren't going to be thinking during a game, "I should save energy this game so we have a better shot of winning next game" "
But it's not up to the players.
"Many of SEM's guys will be fighting for a roster spot next season, they will give it their best both games."
Hard to give it your best if the coach has you sitting on the pine.

"There is no way SEM will risk Creek if injured" Yeah, cos no player in the history of professional sport has ever played with an injury.

It doesn't matter what strategy SEM employ, they're not very good and will lose both. Unless of course that last game vs United is a dead rubber in which case it will just be a scratch match anyway

I could be wrong, but I think the only ways it becomes a dead rubber is:
MU thrash Snakes, NZ & Brissy both lose, badly, MU can scrape in with a narrow loss and %. OR
Cairns whup MU. NZ or Brissy wins comfortably. MU couldn't make it without doubling SEM's score.

Even then, not sure either is technically dead

Kendall Stephens out as well, for at least the NZB game, due to illness.
