Perth v Cairns game 3

One game left for one team to punch their ticket to the grand final.

Can't fault Cairns not one bit, Perth lucky to be in a situation to be playing for a grand final spot.

50 /50 game for mine, home cooking if Perth win, if Cairns win Perth are to cotton orientated.

Both team's can be proud of their season's, for one it will be over for another the dream is still alive.

Who ever wins this series I think will win the tittle. Love the way tipans play ball it's fun and they are enjoying themselves.

If the Taipans commit to chasing Cotton like their lives depend on it I think they will come away happy . On the other hand he is likely to still score 40 despite the Taipans best efforts . Noi's length helped at times on Sunday so hopefully he is as active again when on the floor .

Perth probably will win it but the exciting thing is, this will be no walk in the park. Taipans look dangerous and they could do anything from hereon. It would not completely surprise me to see them make the Grand Final, but I'm gonna say Perth by 5. They have the experience and they know how to find an extra level when it counts.

Cairns have been the better team. They won't be fearful of Perth home crowd etc that import trio is painfully good and they stay composed. Cotton will get his, but can’t see them making as many crazy big shot as they did in game 1.

Would love to see cairns win and Sydney get flogged. Bring on cairns home court advantage!!

All the pieces starting to fall into place for cairns to win first championship!

Not getting ahead of myself but I'll be disappointed if it’s Perth in final. Been an exciting season but gets very boring with Perth always winning. Yes I know they are good and deserve credit but can’t deny it’s boring

Agreed it's boring overall. But for the first time in years I don’t mind the playing group Perth offer. Cotton is fun to watch, Kay is a beast and isnt arrogant about it. I’ve blocked out my dislike for the fans and Trev, just focussing on the playing group, and they are cool to watch. Norton steindl, none of the guys are arrogant like yesteryear. Having said that, I’m on the cairns train!

Agree that Perth are cool to watch this year as the yesteryear players are gone. Cotton etc are legit.

I think it would be good for the league if cairns win. Many casual fans I know all say the same ohh perth won again!

No matter how better the league progresses in talent Perth are right up there. Glad that New Zealand have regressed for the same reasons, nothing against Nz or Perth but dynasty's are boring. Just like GSW in the nba it got boring very quickly.

Go Cairns!!!!

Not sure who hit more big and lucky shots in game 1 tbh, machado pulled from the rac logo, banked a huge three and Kenny had his banked flying layup. If cairns turns it over like they did in game 1 then perth should capitalise

From a Taipans fan, this year has already been huge. Winning a playoff game has capped it off nicely. The only way i will be really disappointed is if we get blown out tonight.

but

god help me, I'm actually bullish about tonight. We've been really good this series, did everything you usually do to win game one, won game two professionally and reasonably comfortably (although, being the Taipans it's never comfortable until the final siren). And we won game two without Machado being huge.

If we can keep Cotton to just great numbers, and White stays stone cold, then we are in with a huge shout. Should be a fun game

I think the game plan last week was to get everyone else involved early (unlike the media saying Cairns shut him down) hence Cotton deferring a lot, Cats know they can't just rely on Cotton to score 40+ to win every game. They made a choice with the game plan and it didn't pan out, I'd expect Cotton to find more of a balance between his game 1 and game 2. That's what I observed watching how he played especially early.

And Kay is just the best exemplar of why Perth is so good

Offensively, they are unselfish and they make the smart decision more often than any other team.

Defensively they all buy in, and they make sure they compete against more shots by making mistakes less often than other teams. They rotate to the right spots, they compete and the crash the boards

In summary, they're just a good basketball team.

Sydney has more talent and the home court home cooking advantage, but Perth has been there and done that time and time again. They can do it on the road.

Should be a great series.

Cairns showed so much. We were gone so many times in that 2nd half, but just kept fighting back. I love Cam Oliver, but not even I thought he had that character to ignore the 1st half, chuck us on his back, and try to carry us home.

Only quibble is, why was the ball always in DJs hands with 3 to go when it was clear he was in the middle of his worst ever game for us?

We just couldn't seize that moment when it came, and then Perth would take it away. White and Kay were unreal.

The reason Cotton had a poor game is due to the fact that he shoots the ball while looking for contact at the same time. If he simply does the regular jump shots he'll get alot more in the hole.

His fascination with getting contact is becoming sickening.

"His fascination with getting contact is becoming sickening."

When you're being guarded as tight as he was by the NBL's best defender sometimes that's all you can do if you're a smart player trying to help your team and get into the game. Credit should be given to Newbill for his defensive effort rather than knocking down Cotton, but Australia...

Cotton spent a lot of time last night throwing his arms and body around, where as if he had gone straight up he may have made the shot, a couple of lay up efforts were embarrassing from him. Also give Newbill some credit, after game 1 he played him a lot smarter, and the bigger body made it tougher for him.

I don't know who from the Kings will stop him though, if they use Ware, then it will gas him for the other end, Cotton moves a lot when he does not have the ball, that will be mentally and energy sapping for Ware if he guards him.
