WNBL 20-21 Season Schedule

Finally some signs of life at WNBL HQ.

Basketball Australia can today confirm that the 2020-21 Chemist Warehouse WNBL Season will comprise of 21 regular season games per team, with the opening round scheduled for 20 - 22 November 2020 and the final round to be contested 3 – 6 March 2021.
Following the regular season, the Semi Finals Series will take place across the period 12 – 21 March 2021, with the Grand Final Series to occur between 25 – 31 March 2021.

For comparison, last regular season ran Oct 12th to Jan 19th (also 21 games), with finals ending on March 4th. So basically a very similar season, just pushed back several weeks.

Also
Basketball Australia can also confirm that it has planned on a scenario of games being contested without fans in attendance until Christmas, due to COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings.

No official word on imports yet, although looking unlikely.

Also no mention of a broadcast deal / arrangement yet either. This becomes even more important if games are to be played in front of empty stadiums.

Still can't understand why the nbl and wnbl are not aligned. Every other major sport in aus are as one.

Jackson and staff really needs to prove the, selves this year or it should be given over to kestleman.

LJ was just interviewed on tv and she hinted at some positive news re. TV, which would be announced later. Fingers crossed for that one.

Perth has both Mansfield and ebzery, the fire only have cocks as aw pg, vanloo will not be back obviously.

Ebzery / Mansfield / J.Williams(DP)
Whitcomb / Whittle
Belger / Ciabbitoni / N.Williams(DP)
Steindl / Payne
Allen / Burton, Edwards or Mckay, all from wa)

Possibly garbin.

Ebzery / Mansfield / J.Williams(DP)
Whitcomb / Whittle / E.Strelein(DP) - signed for Portland 21' class
Belger / Ciabbitoni / N.Williams(DP)
Steindl / Payne
Allen / Edwards

Seeing how Edwards did so well at nbl1 level and got no time at Adelaide, could see her moving to Perth.

Not many wa college women about. Very few I see as wnbl level.

Atwell and Satie are now seniors.
Clarke and Fisher juniors.
Deegan, ayliffe, Drennan, Jones and jacobssisters sophomores.

Clarke is maybe a backup sf in 2 years, deegan a backup or starting sg in 3 years in wnbl.

what about Bishop to Perth? Can someone tell me the salary cap situation in the league? like can one team just get all the WNBA stars because they all live in say Melbourne or is there a limit or limit on WNBA stars in a team?
Should be interesting in the league without imports certainly makes teams shorter with out people like lavender, russell, turner, mcgee- standford etc Australia doesnt have enough bigs to go around to every team.
Interesting on the Perth Lynx team ebzery wasnt a free agent does that mean she has signed?

Are there definitely no imports this season?

Part of this morning's announcement is that there are definitely no restricted players (i.e. imports) this season.

In the longer term that's not great for the standard of the league (although somewhat offset by quality aussies who would normally play overseas staying home this season), but as a temporary thing it will be nice to see more locals get a shot at meaningful roles.

Pretty stupid decision by seekamp if u ask me. Has a shot to beat lavey for the third pg spot in Tokyo and now will never play at an olympics or World Cup.
Time is up for her, will be overtaken by other pgs real soon, it was her last chance.

Ebzery is not on the FA list, which implies she is still under contract with the Lynx. Still living in Perth atm too for what that's worth. So fingers crossed she is a part of the team. Her + Whitcomb is pretty much my dream starting backcourt.
I see no reason either why Mansfield couldn't be part of that rotation, although there wouldn't be a whole lot of minutes left for her most nights so I couldn't blame her for going elsewhere to land a starting gig.
