NBL Cup = Newbill funds for Taipans

The Snakes arguably have more to gain from the NBL Cup as any team. DJ Funds is the name of the game these next three weeks. Forgetting this season's ladder implications, the prizemoney would go a long way toward DJ Newbill's contract next season, provided NBL bumps it back up to three imports.

Taipans will definitely keep at least one of Noi and King, plus Newbill, plus a good big to replace the retiring Jawai (surely he retires)... that's as strong championship contender as any you'd think.

Also, I don't know what his contract status is with SEM, but Cairns should target the heck out of Dane Pineau to start at the 5 spot next to Oliver next season. Would fit perfectly in the 3-import team

Noi is highly overrated and will go to a side that will pay overs.

I'm hoping it stays at two imports plus next star, open it up to any players who has finished college. Fully completed, not leaving after part complete or like Didi got contract in nba and play elsewhere.

Newbill will cost more than 300g, might settle for that after tax, plus throw in accommodation and car.

Granted, but remember, the $300,000 from the Cup would be, + anything you had to offer before.

It's not like , "Hey, the offer to you goes from nothing to $300,000". More like , "Whatever we offered before + $300,000."

They're already being paid by their NBL teams. Players get paid on a per month basis regardless of how many games they do or don't play during the month.

In fact most players would prefer all these extra games then having to train every day anyway.

Machado is contracted for 2 years but not sure about Oliver. King was oversold and has underdelivered. Someone like Baba would've slotted in far better.

Mojave Ķing isn't looking much chop so far but next star deals are two years so he has time.

Correct Jawai has another season remaining after this but hopefully he retires anyway.

Yeah Oliver and Machado both 2yr deals. Pretty cool, pulling that off.

Yannick Wetzel would be all right as a starting C, even. Good backup at worst. Run Deng at PF with Oliver centre?

But deadset, we're looking okay to come out with at least $50k from this tournament.
