NBL1 South

This competition must surely be getting close to being unable to finish. Other states are now compromised with the delay of national finals by a week even before the latest lockdown. The South conference is further compromised with some teams needing to travel into and out of Victoria with risk of quarantining

When will the call be made to cancel the national finals?

Awkward with 3 of the top 5 teams residing outside of Victoria. Do they finish without Hobart, NW Tasssie and Mt. Gambier?

Forget National finals. That's a pipe dream. They need to cancel NBL1 south ASAP before it gets dangerous having athletes sit for weeks at a time then play multiple games on a weekend unprepared.

Probably time to give up on NBL South for 2021. I have some knowledge of one of the clubs and it's been a nightmare.
- imports unavailable
- WNBL players committed to clubs elsewhere
- constant lockdowns in Victoria
- horror road trips (e.g. Melbourne/Albury/Melbourne in one weekend) to make up for lockdowns

"Melbourne Albury Melbourne OMG the horror"

It's a lot of travel & basketball for one weekend... 3 games - travel then Friday Night/Sat Night/Sun afternoon/travel home

I also heard that for Mt Gambier to play Hobart one weekend they had to:
- take a bus to Adelaide
- Fly to Sydney
- Fly to Hobart

It's a long way just to play NBL1 games

Thunder were scheduled to do Knox, Albury and Ballarat! The idiot that said "Melbourne Albury Melbourne OMG the horror" clearly has never played at that level, let alone done a 3 game road trip like that. Effectively 3 games in 1.5 days.

29 cases all of which were in the community so the number will be going up not down. Experts saying Vic can expect to be in and out of lockdown until Christmas at least.

Put the clubs at ease and call the NBL1 season off - when they do get a chance to play let the clubs focus on the thousands of kids who play not the 24 NBL1 players at each club.

With interstate travel in this league too it's simply not possible for it to continue I’d say.

One NBL1 club desperately chasing junior fees, forgetting kids have missed half a season already, just to cover costs of high priced mid season recruits for NBL1,I think it's time for clubs to focus on getting there groundroots in order instead of worrying about players you may never seen again and contribute zero to your association

Not all Nbl1 Clubs use Junior fees to fund it's operation. Nbl1 generate their own income, mostly sponsorship. Maybe ask your Club for Junior out goings you may be surprised how much it costa to put juniors on a court.

Unlikely they'll make a decision because of what was said on an internet forum.

They'll wait for official information from Vic Government before writing off next weekend, and what that means for the rest of the season.

Who is this absolute clown that comes in here and calls for an end to the season? It's obviously nothing to do with you. There are plenty of people trying their hardest to provide a competition for hundreds of players and support staff. People just want to play, watch, referee and particiapte how ever they can. Get back in your lonley box. Everyone involved is going through the hardest time sport has seen since the last world war in this joker wants to throw out the bath water. Probably the same person calling for an end to the VJBL season.

Does this become any more viable after the introduction of NBL1 East, or are East and Central still going to be too far behind for the NSW/SA clubs to find it worthwhile?

What's the situation in Tasmania? Can't really field a two-team competition.

Both Mt. Gambier and Albury-Wodonga are border teams. Mt. Gambier did play Central NBL1 in an overall weaker competition at the time. The travel costs for a League which is Adelaide centric is the major issue there, as well as Mt. Gambiers desire to play at the best level possible being NBL1 South.

Tasmania have to remain in NBL1 South, there's simply no alternative for them.

That means there's no way to solve the current border issues around NBL1 South but the Vic stance on COVID is a much more positive one for access across borders than the NSW Governments.

Safe to say for 2022 NBL1 South will remain as is and again we'll have to rely on Governments being able to tackle COVID.

It is an interesting comment regarding South being the best possible competition. Of the top 5 teams 3 are from Tassie or SA. There are 18 teams in the league with a very large gap between the top and bottom teams when looking at results.

The competition is much closer in SA and I would argue this makes for a more interesting and better competition. I'd be curious as to how the top teams in SA would compare to many of the lower teams in the South conference

Current South competition has been heavily impacted by COVID restrictions on imports. I'd say the top teams in WA and QLD would have something to say about South being the strongest comp at the moment.

South is still the best place for Mt Gambier for many reasons. And the League they want to be in.

How would the top teams in the South compare to the lower teams in SA?

The new teams that have entered the NBL South competition are generally of a poor standard. Waverley being the exception to that. (Men's comp)
