Gleeson Back in the NBL?

How true are the rumours that Trev wants to coach back in the NBL again! He has deep discussions with Brisvegas but never came to an agreement. Surely the Cats would want him back, esp since his family is still based there?

It's true that there have been rumours.

Thank you Brisbane for signing that other dude so quickly.

SEG it's time to redeem yourselves and get this done.

Where is this coming from?

The NBA season is still on.

Nick Nurse is still there so its not like they got a new HC and jettisoned all assistants.

Sixers would be stupid not to have a crack. Would be a long shot but as much as his whinging annoyed me, he's the best NBL coach in recent history.

I believe Nurse is heading into his final year next season and the way things look, they might be tearing things down and rebuilding. Going rate for Anunoby is 3 1sts from Knicks, VanVleet due to be free agent and a few teams interested before deadline, Phoenix could make a play. Siakam would probably hold a 3 1sts value as well as maybe a young player. Then theres Trent Jr, plus Porter and Young may hold either value to contenders or throw ins for other deals. Only player that's untouchable would be Barnes. Of course they could shock the world and go after Durant.
But if they reset, would they want Nurse overseeing it on a fairly expensive new contract, or would Nurse even want to go through it. Would be a good hire, if Boston or Philadelphia fail they would make good offers.
And has Trev made a big enough impact to even be in his staff anymore?
Adelaide should be swinging for the fences trying to lure him back. Be typical of Perth's current structure to fire Rillie after one year even to bring back a favourite son. In that case I wouldn't be very opposed going after JR to head up Sixers, was a big learning experience for him and hopefully he takes it on board.

'Deep discussions' with Brisbane would be highly overstated. What likely happened is that they reached out and asked "Hey you available" and Trev said "No".

Brisbane gets to tick a box and signal to their membership that they reached out to a stud coach during their thorough and exhausting search from a new HC. Which subsequently resulted in an underwhelming hire ...

There's no salary cap for coaches, so I’d throw BIG money Gleeson’s way and maybe spend a bit less on the players - that model works for Jumpers, and Gleeson’s the guy to get the best out of his players

Yes nurse is heavily rumoured to be headed to Houston next season. Trev could be in the running for the Raptors head coaching gig

Why would Nurse head to Houston?

Toronto opted not to blow up the team at the deadline or trade any key pieces.

There is a decent team there to work with :

- Siakam
- Van Vleet.
- Barnes
- Anunoby
- Trent

With decent role players like Achuwa and Boucher.

Sure either Trent or Van Vleet may want to go but they should be able to get decent compensation in return.

Nurse wouldn't go to a rebuilding team even if they win the Wenbayama sweepstakes. Would go to a contender, Boston if they don't win, Philly another one.
Unless Toronto have a fire sale in offseason there's still pieces, but a middle of the pack team. Could have tried a Leonard type trade again with Durant, even worth it sending Barnes.
And unless Trev has absolutely wowed them, really cannot see him getting a HC position whatever way the Raptors decide to go. Probably at age where he can come back to Australia and coach another 10 years just by reputation alone as well as no other real options to contend with. Adelaide need to make a 5 year Godfather offer asap.

No thanks, we saw how things ended up the last time we gave a coach a 5 year deal. A hell of a lot can happen in the space of five years to sour either side of the relationship.

If Gleeson was willing to take a 3 year deal I would be comfortable with that but it's looking like CJ is probably staying on as coach so a moot point anyway.

On the other hand look what happens when we offer 3 year deals. No decent coach is coming to this shit heap unless they get a ridiculous deal.

Well 2/3 year deals are the standard length of coaching contracts in the NBL so not sure we need to be the only team offering longer deals than that.
