Sydney v SEM

Are SEM a chance, smallish, but no Moller or Cummins going to make this difficult. On the other side coin kings been not great either. Kelly certainly has SEM playing tougher. Hogg could be the difference.

Both sides not playing a lot of D, entertaining if you like a three point shoot out. Both sides should play finals but not near United, JJs, even Perth should beat these two.

Absolute shit show for Sydney, coach out of his depth & looks like he lost his players. Lack of rebounding & offense is too 1 out with no pace or ball movement. Phoenix should get this by 20 if it keeps going like this

Kings are just bad, SEM playing smart, Kelly been great for this team. Bolden is so far off a boomers jersey no matter how much Rosen talks him up. Valentine is poor defender. Sauce and Creek just carving helped by team mates. Hogg is playing poor, just doesn't seem interested. Defensively kings no idea.

Kings have arguably the most talented roster in the league, it's definitely the coach.

They don’t run an offense and on defense they just do whatever. Mahmoud ain’t it.

Talent in name players only, there fives are average, Adams is champion, Hogg one good season, rest I'm not sold. United and JJs units far better.

Adams is so bad compared with his last appearance in Sydney a couple of years ago,Walton way both ends of the court. Sydney just needs to play man to man on D & stop switching, no ball pressure & no urgency.

Kings fight back late the quarter, massive bad call on Williams, Creek been great. Galloway should play all last quarter, he place both ends.

Kenyon, you don't win with out these types on your roster. SEM deserves to win this from here.

Kelly is an outstanding coach, I've underestimated SEM but he’s installed discipline, structure and selflessness. Creek, sauce, certainly the keys but great team effort all round. Kenyon, Vague, Ayre, Browne plus rest bench contributed greatly..

Sydney, who knows, Hogg, Valentine just poor, don’t play D, Adams over dribbles, Bloden can get points but can’t defend, Hunter looks slow at times, hands let him down at times. Toohey not going as well as season start. Glover and Galloway got play more, they play D.

Overall a very good game.

United, JJs and chuck blanket over the rest off them, SEM get the right import there in it.

Kings missing Cooks big time, have absolutely no inside presence whatsoever. All they do is live and die by the 3, if they had any confidence in Hunter they should have just dumped it inside to him and he should get at least 30 just by size alone. Offence just seems about setting ball screens galore and whoever is half open shoots it. Unless Adams randomly penetrates for some reason.
And defensively, WTF. Went from switching everything to playing perhaps the worst zone the league has ever seen. Mahmoud probably hasn't run one ever, but surely the players have at some stage. Bizarre how they just gave up on their defensive concept to run absolute crap virtually overnight.
And it does look like the coach has lost the players, all look disinterested. Valentine definitely has a problem with him and Hogg is just cashing his pay cheque it seems. Bolden doesn't even pretend to go inside anymore and they only show any urgency when it's 3 minutes to go.
Wouldn't be surprised if Valentine gets sacked, good player but wasted with this bunch. Need a post presence for when the shots aren't dropping and to get some player movement in their offensive scheme.

It's not just Cooks that the Kings are missing. Justin Simon was that perimeter stopper they don’t have anymore and it’s showing big time. Valentine is either incapable or disinterested in playing any semblance of D and opposition teams are taking advantage.

As a group, this team is nowhere near it. The club made a mistake with Abdelfattah, the chemistry looks off and if they can’t get stops, they won’t win anything. That was a disgraceful performance yesterday against a undermanned team who were way better coached and just played harder.

Seems to be a leadership void. They're fine when things are going well, but no one making a stand when other teams get on top. Cooks, Vasiljevic, Simon all guys who would let teammates know when standards are slipping, I'm sure there were others too in those championship teams.

Pretty much a masterclass from Kelly/SEM. As soon as Sydney pulled out the zone, SEM immediately went into a zone attack offense, overloaded the perimeter or got the ball into the middle. Williams was a beast, got Hunter and Bolden into a few early fouls and was relentless around the bucket, Creek had maybe his best game of the season, and Ayre had a few really timely buckets when the Kings threatened to get back into the game. I don't think I've seen Vague score 12 points across the rest of his NBL career combined.

Kings couldn't defend a sack of potatoes right now - definitely miss Cooks' versatility, and we need a lot more minutes from Galloway and Glover as the only two guys who really defend the perimeter and put in 100% effort on that end. The zone only works when it's not expected, and it's definitely expected now, time to put it to bed and be a lot more selective with it. Offensively we need to do a much better job of getting Hogg the ball in positions to score - he was not brought in for his ability to rebound or defend, so he'd better be putting up shots and getting points.

Pongrass and co. to reevaluate their head coach recruitment strategy? American doesn't necessarily mean better.

I don't think I've seen Vague score 12 points across the rest of his NBL career combined.

I was thinking of something clever to write about Vague, while recalling how all he would seemingly do at the Wildcats was to take ill advised threes and miss them, but this will do.

Coach should be looking over his shoulder and waiting for the meeting phone call.
