Jared Martin out

Just heard Jared Martin is out for 6 to 8 weeks .
What will management do now ,keep him or release him, I think we need sign another big man til he recovers ,no point in hanging in to him if it chews up our season .
We are doing fine without him but will need some height replacement soon.

He's a long way from his playing weight, in a boot as well. SEM were supposed to looking at him but even they walked away. Again early days but not looking great.

Jarell.

Given he's played in the NBL before not sure we could release him without paying out his contract in full for the season.

Jarelle Martin

Don't know how the contract works ,I don’t think management wants to fork out another payout .

Yes ,early days ,see how things pan out.

They're saying 4-6 weeks, already looking for replacement, have over 40 names in consideration, and from what I've been told Martin's the exact same weight as when he was here last.

As said in other thread, if they were planning on bringing in a third import later on, do it now, and then cut someone when Martin returns.

Matt Weston, why did you sign a lame import who was never getting back on the court before October! He was a long way off and now Nic P has gone and broken him further! He gooone!

You didn't do your proper due diligence son and contrary to good advice, left Jerell's medical waaaay too late. Yeah nah, your CV is the beez knees so this can't be your screw up!

Hmmm, what did you say in your radio interview the day you sacked Scott Ninnis..... how did it go, something like "we had the tyres on the road but there were too many gaps"

Clearly it wasn't the driver who wasn't up to standard but the engineer given Martin's signing was all you!

Good thing you have given the new driver plenty of laps to make up for all your mistakes. You better hope he doesn't fall apart behinf the wheel, because the new driver is all you too!

I was lead to believe that Weston is a "walking success "

0/2 so far

Throw in the mix all the Aussies he failed to recruit to Adelaide as well and its more like 0/10

"4-6" and "6-8"

No one seems to even know the injury and, obviously, missing 4 more weeks vs 8 more is very different in terms of the impact on season

Media reports say Patella Tendon rupture in December last year- is this a long recovery or a completely new injury? Sounds like new. In which case, Martin will be returning off not 1, but 2 relatively serious injuries?

Yes it's a new injury, separate to the other one.

Not good.

I mean, if there were no injury/fitness concerns, I doubt any NBL team is affording Martin. It was a gamble, it might still pay off but it puts the Sixers on the backfoot entering the season.

Weston talked about not wanting to make a move late in the year when you're whatever negative record you'd be on his justification on firing Ninnis.

Same thing has to apply to this. As good as Martin may be, they can't potentially wait 2 more months for him to come back and then shake off a year of rust from not playing and still expect to be a contender. The league feels way too tight this year to be at that level or comfort with the team as is (as good as parts may be). The bench was thin already, let alone having to steal from it even more because you've got 1 import on the team.

Best case scenario for 36ers

Mayen finds form, the team is clicking. They're 3-1 before Martin returns at home on October 11 vs Sydney (4.5 weeks). Martin takes a few games to find fitness, by early November he's the GF MVP Martin, terrorising defenses with the twin tower Humphries. The "big 4" is unstoppable and 36ers go on to contend for the championship.

Worst case scenario

Humphries does a minor injury on the eve of the season. Misses the first few games, leaving the 36ers with a frontcourt of Griscthi, Starling and Mayen. Martin's recovery drags on, finally returning November 10 at home vs Illawarra. By this stage the 36ers are floundering at 1-8. Martin struggles over his first few games after not playing for 12 months. He doesn't look the same player. The 36ers drop to 2-14 before belatedly sacking Martin a couple of days before Christmas. Christmas Eve at home vs Brisbane, the team is competitive but the booing reigns down on the ears of Weston. He quickly finds a replacement import who's solid, and the 36ers rally somewhat but ultimately finish 7-22 and have the wooden spoon locked up before the final round.

Mid Point scenario

36ers sign an injury replacement import, who plays solid basketball while they wait on Martin. Davis is a stud, but occasionally their defence and depth let them down. Plenty of fire-power however still means plenty of wins, especially after Martin finds his feet. 13-16 and a 7th place finish, narrowly missing the play-in.

Could go any way.

I think the most common scenario is teams attack Humphries all game long, knowing they have no back up. He consistently is in foul trouble.

6ers are down 0-4 by the time Martin gets back, but again struggles to find form.
6ers 0-8 and they look to release Martin, because the club is too cheap at spending the required money to win AND at that point they will need to win 85% of their games from then on to make finals.

The Ninnis supports feel vindication
The 6ers... don't care business as usual, why would they change now?

Martin is over weight, not in playing condition and now has a foot injury, my man on the ground up there is telling me this re his weight. He's not back till mid November if all goes right, it could be Christmas.

Clear hyperbole from some. what's with the doomsday viewpoints all the time? too many have a short term outlook. there's a complete lack of understanding about what constitutes success and what makes up its accompanying process. 6ers will make finals this year - try optimism.

Adelaide finished last season 7-3. Will be interesting to see what their record is after the first 10 games this season. Hopefully there isn't a massive drop-off.

Sixers looked very reasonable the other night, surely they going to make a move to at least get a fill in while Martin is out. Championship are not won early season but they can certainly be lost.

If 36ers are serious about contending, they need to bring in a 3rd stud import mid season, which arguably is a good financial compromise holding out as they would need to change Humphries or DJ from marquee to normal roster spot for 2nd half of season.

They can still effectively do this by getting a stud import now as injury replacement for Martin, then reactivating Martin mid year when he's fit and in playing shape, meaning he is the stud import coming in mid year. I'm sure 36ers fans would be happy (assuming Martin wasn't signed / injured) if we had another 2nd gun import now and grand final version of Martin was signed mid year

Wonder if their plan has changed to this if they are looking at 40 last cut names to sign now. Hopefully they don't go budget local as injury replacement and Martin takes a long time to get to playing fitness or unfortunately I can see LV worst case scenario happening

They have already signed Kubank for the time being. It sounds like their plan is definitely to bring in an import ASAP. Probably forced their hand in terms of being a 4/5 rather than a 3/4? Unless Q Anon is hinting something else...
