Basketball Coverage in NZ

It's interesting that in NZ all the Breakers home games are shown LIVE on free to air TV. For a sport that's not extremely popular I'm surprised that a free to air station is willing to show live coverage. Is it more of a community channel? Anyone know? The New Zealand fans are lucky buggers, imagine if the Sixers had that kind of coverage. Aussie fans without Foxtel can only watch their team play on TV on the odd occasion that they're shown on Channel 9 in the morning. And even the people that are lucky enough to have Fox don't get to see that many game with their team in it.

The FTA coverage surely must good for the game in New Zealand but less people might go to games because they can watch it on TV? But on the other hand more people will get to experience the NBL and it might attract people to games and generate more interest. It's a petty they can't show all the Breakers away games instead but obviously that means travel etc.

One more random NZ related question. Why on earth are all the Beakers games on a Thursday? Most of the NBL teams finally realised that fans want Friday and Saturday games and that what they delivered. Why the hell are NZ persisting with crowd-unfriendly mid-week games?

Thoughts?

It is on Maori TV on a 1/2 hour delay i think. Last year they were all on Sky live. Thursdays work well for the corporate market. Diehard fans will go any time and it has been a problem attracting new audience or getting more support from existing b/ball community. This year with more kiwis on roster and reasonable team they are hoping for on court success to generate greater support.
Major sports dominate and basketball struggles to establish support..sound familiar.

the breakers crowds are dissapointing..because all the games are on thursday and auckland is a big place in terms of area size meaning people have to travel to north auckland which is a decent drive to watch.if the games were on friday or saturday im sure they woud get a greater crowds..plus with the coverage on Maori TV every1 just prefers to watch it anyway from their lounge.
