Phoenix v Sixers Nov 18

So far this round not one team has reached the ton. Will that change tonight?

Phoenix had the skinniest of losses against their soy sipping cross town rivals earlier in the round and the Sixers out-rebounded the Cats and put up more shots, but the Cats were more accurate and took home the chocolates.

A Phoenix win will see them keep 3rd and push out a bit ahead of United. A Sixers win keeps Cairns at bay, whereas a loss would see Cairns leapfrog them on the table and round off a 5 loss streak. Certainly, it would be time to pull out the bean bags and go into the room of mirrors for a good hard look.

Phoenix hold all the aces going into this game, so the Sixers will need a Joker to stop this full house of failures. A royal flushing of SEM is needed if the Sixers are to win and Joey will need a poker face to keep his opponents guessing his plan. Will Joey fold, or can he hold 'em?

Games are won and lost off the bench IMO. The starting 5's get the results, but the second team needs to hold an end up. The Phoenix bench is just a little deeper and this will be the leading factor.

C'mon Sixers, but sadly Phoenix will make this trip a painful one...

Crucial or critical must win for Sixers. Get this and with NZ / Brissy to follow get on a mini run.
Ok so bit of current hiccup but SEM are not the powerhouse teams of cats or kings. Very getable by sixers who match up well. Again randle and DJ become massive but drimic might be difference here. He been threatening very steady within taking game on this is the moment AD and Eric played very well at EC - might be on verge of also big game. Do job on creek and think Sixers are go for win. SEM might be beginning to burn out. Tough tough draw ahead.

Lose this game and we drop below Cairns on the ladder above only NZ & Illawarra and a decision would need to be made on Griffin. Despite the great effort against Perth I can't see how we win this game and likely fall to our fifth straight loss.

Phoenix by 12

Gut feeling tells me this will be closer than people think.

Tempted to get on the 36ers handicap of +5.5

For those of you who don't understand what that bet means, it means if 36ers lose by 5 points or less the bet wins.

If Benson plays like he did against United the other night, good luck Sixers. Creek will be up for this as well and Phoenix match up well in the guard spots as well. I'd say good night Sixers, Phoenix by 12 and Joey to blow a gasket.

On paper, SEM to win at home.

But it's hard to back up from a game like Saturday's loss. Emotionally they will be drained.

SEM are vulnerable and Sixers being on the road will help them. Sixers can win this IF they stop doing dumb shit in the critical minutes. That's a big IF though as they have a pattern in games of falling down here. Don't look at the total stat numbers, look at when they're happening.

I tend to agree. The Sixers are one of the more emotional teams. They seem to be in control and then something happens and they turn into an ex-wife who hasn't received her CSA cheque.

Some interesting stuff to play out after this game if the Sixers lose. Is Griffin safe or not? Regardless of how he plays in this game, if they lose he's in danger. Do they continue to waste 10+ minutes a game on Teys and White or are they better off putting that time in to someone else?
As a coach, if you're forced to have a player by management (Randle), what's your thought process when the shit goes south? Is it a case of well, you guys wanted this and this is what you got, or do you wear the flack coming your way for losing?

I think having Teys and White on the same roster doesn't actually add anything. Their playing style is too similar. Teams are exactly that, a variety of players and playing styles. Coaches exploit the differences in their team to exact an edge over the other team. Teys and White cop their share of criticism here, but they obviously add something in Joey's eyes.

What I've seen I think both Joey & Randle are handling the situation as maturely as possible. Joey knows Randle refused to sign early in the off-season if Joey was going to still be there as coach but changed his stance when he was still a FA in October and the Sixers owner came calling again.

Randle I think has been doing pretty well to get everyone involved no doubt following Joey's instructions, the team wouldn't have a hope if Randle dominated the offence every game so the opposition don't need to bother guarding anyone else.

I think Randle knowing he has the owner on side deserves credit for that trying to be a bit more unselfish especially early in games as late in games the situation tends to overwhelm our guys and Randle really needs to start dominating the offence more.

The issues with the team are obviously this is a cheap roster compared to the big spenders which is why we have guys like Teys, White & Dillon on the roster but also I think Griffin has been quite disappointing and they need to upgrade on him if they want to be a playoff contending team. I would think this will probably be his last game.

There are cracks, there's no doubt about that. Yes agreed, Randle has handled it well so far but he's a smoking volcano. You can see it the last few games and wouldn't be surprised to see words exchanged in this game if things aren't going well. Let's just hope there's no fisticuffs.
Griffin already targeted as the scapegoat so whatever he dishes up tonight is not going to save him in a loss.

Adelaide will give them 1 quarter. Phoenix by a few in this one, wheels are off for the 36ers. Doesn't matter how they spin it, how positive the bench guys wave the towels. They haven’t got the cattle this season. Creek will be up for this clash.

Changes need to be made in Adelaide, and their silence is deafening. I really wish they could pay Wright out his contract and move on. His voice has lost any sort vigour on that sideline.

Randle has his flaws, but I think he has played fairly well this season. He did miss a wide open DJ on the three point arc late against Perth though, instead driving to the rim to get stuffed by Hunt or someone. Would like to see him kick it out to the shooter in those situations, but I'm not holding my breath.

We did already discuss this in another thread, but I feel like Moore is the guy that should be cut first. Griffin has at least shown signs of impacting games at times. Even when he is on, Moore just doesn't do enough to justify an import slot.

Having said that, unless Joey has can't miss prospects lined up to replace either Moore or Griffin, I'd rather the owner save his money for a better roster next season.

Im curious now about Moore too, id assume it's his calves. He seems a mature type of guy, doubt highly its off court discretion type stuff. Could be a blessing in disguise, Adelaide as is, aren't doing anything special this season, but they are 1-2 moves away from being decent. Coaches are a strange lot, you would think with there job on the line they would play best form players but seem to still back reputation. This year Wright, Lemanis and Flinn seem to change to guys that perform of late and got better results, well Flinn and Wright anyway. The playing of Kyei and Deck has made both sides better defensively which shows in results.
Gleeson has haters but you don't perform you sit, maybe it’s why he’s successful.

Try telling that to Ramone Moore, Nathan Sobey, Harry Froling etc the list goes on.

Joey like a lot of good coaches would rather maintain team discipline and sit someone down then win a single game.

"Joey like a lot of good coaches would rather maintain team discipline and sit someone down then win a single game."

You do realise they won last night right?

Yes, they won, but he didn't know they would win, prior to top off. If they’d lost, which was likely, Joey would’ve had questions thrown his way. Was a dumb move regardless of issue and result to sit Moore. ADELAIDE can’t afford the luxury of playing dictatorship when they are so bad.

Moore and Froling have been absolute crap this season, Sobey playing like a one man team at Brisbane, certainly was better at Adelaide.

Moore is injured, they're just not saying what exactly it is at the moment.

If he was injured, they'd say that instead of "we just need to play hard".

Joey said several times "he just has some medical stuff going on". Today it's being reported by the club as calf tightness, which doesn't surprise me...that's been his issue for the past few years and they were probably hoping they didn't have to admit that it's an ongoing problem.

Zero chance it's genuinely calf tightness. If it is medical it's not an injury, it's something more personal.

Absolute bullshit. Medical. If you buy that excuse you know nothing about basketball. If it was 'calf tightness', then why did he warm up?
It's a message to not only Moore, but the rest of the group as well. Plus he becomes a convenient scapegoat. Moore has hardly been their worst player.
It may have worked....for that game. But it changes the dynamics now within the group. One of two ways it will go, they'll go on a winning streak or crash burn with the 2 games this weekend being the litmus test.

"If it was 'calf tightness', then why did he warm up?"

because he suffered it during the warm up. Unless you were hoping he was Nostradamus, then he probably wouldn't have warmed up.

"Moore has hardly been their worst player."

Even more reason why your conspiracy theory doesn't fit. Moore's body language was fine during the game.

"One of two ways it will go"

Actually against the top 3 teams it is more than likely a loss. Against the other teams games could go either way. Brisbane will be tough in Brisbane. New Zealand have had some controversy so them playing on the road will take the pressure off so they could come away with the win.

Why bother changing the narrative to "calf tightness" when announcing that he should be good for the next game if it's not the case? You might as well just continue with the deliberately vague "medical issue" and move on.

Suffered calf tightness in the warm up did he? Bullshit. Then why did he complete the warmup?

Why couldn't any of them, Wright (when interviewed), Randle (when interviewed) or the club just come out and say what the 'injury' was on game day? Why the ducks and drakes? I'll tell you why, because it didn't exist.

He hasn't been their worst player, but for an import he's been underperforming. Still, his underperforming has still been better than what others have dished up to that point.

Moore will play Friday, you can get away with it for one game, but they can't do it this week (hoping the message got through to him, and others btw) and they need him firing.
