Heard a Rumor Mike Kelly has Sam Froling near on locked in for Cairns

If it becomes Likely that European Based Australians looking to come pay a season in Australia due to the pandemic Would the NBL revert the Number of players per team to accomodate that.

Drmic Brisbane

Both Frolings to Cairns means that Oliver isn't coming back

Lots to play out with the Hawks situation that will impact FA if they don't return.

Blanchfield to replace Drmic at Adelaide if Hawks fold.

36ers should have waited and got Grida and Naar instead of Giddey. Giddey will be gone while the other two will be building blocks for a franchise.

Overtime last night said Sydney had an option on Moller and they had better get it done, there's been a fair bit interest in him. Newley form last season was great, but yes Sydney looking in a bit of a rebuild pattern. If they can get Kickett, Bruce back plus import point guard and five man of reasonable quality could still play finals.

Harry would best suit the kings, both with no heart.

Starting 5 for Sydney

Import
Lisch
Newley
Moller
Import

I don't know what the Bogut situation means for Kickert or Hunter though. I suspect that the Kings will look to get a very lean and mobile 5 man import.

I don't think Cooks is coming back as I just don't think there is value in the money that he is commanding unless he decides to play in the 5 in a small ball lineup which could then open up a potential import 3/4. However I they are better off investing in a solid PG and centre. Also I think Sydney should be quick to lock in Moller, with teams only getting 2 imports a number of teams demand would increase for decent Aussies.

Need to find another two guard and import five and point. Imports could be less experienced this season as less money to attract them. Taylor could be a good option at point for Sydney. Kings should act quickly on Moller as clubs start circling. Can't see Cook back.

If Blanchfield & Froling depart, there's a few in the Hawks hierarchy that want to pounce on Moller.

Hawks eyeing off a

IMPORT
Dech/Glover
IMPORT/Grida*
Moller/Coenraad
AJ

As their core.

Love him or loathe him, AJ plays D, screens, passes & has the potential to be a genuine 3pt threat at the 5.

Throw Moller & Dech in with 2 2way imports & that's a solid 5 that play both ends of the floor.

Let's be serious.

How is Moller going to come up against the Kays, Tates and Olivers?

Moller is a good defender, good in the open court filling the lanes, thats all.

Not a good shooter, not a good penetrator, not a known screener, no post up game, nor can he create.

The Hawks are suppose to be trying to re-invigorating the club, Moller is fine off the bench for 15 mins, that is all.

All these people saying Moller was the reason for the Kings 10-0 start, well he was healthy and playing junk minutes with Lochlan Hutcinson at the end.

Please tell me how he is going to win games?

IMPORT & Naar (9)
Glover & Dech
Moller & Grida
ASHLEY & Coenraad (8)

I think once taste is in we need 2nd nz team another QLD team another Sydney team, WA team

would love to see

Newcastle
Geelong
Townsville
Canberra

Come back into the comp and with players of the above mentioned returning with the pockets full we may have an ability for them to come and invest ..... hopefully its in expansion rather than what we already have

I believe it was in the players agreement when the salaries were getting reduced and the free agency was pushed back. It makes sense as it gives players time to look around before free agency begins just like all the free agents, ie Drimic already seems to be going to Brisbane. I'm actually chasing around now to try and confirm.
There’s a few players on options ie Magen who would need to be told if they are keeping him, so if not he gets a chance to see what’s available before clubs make there minds up.

You're arguing that free agency has to start a month before free agency starts so that free agents can take part in free agency before the start of free agency. It makes no sense.

I finally got around to this week's Overtime and it was mentioned there. Although I still don't understand why, given that they're still not allowed to talk to other clubs until free agency starts, so they spend a month not doing anything anyway. Free agency normally starts two weeks after the season, and we got to within a few hours of free agency starting back at the start of this month before it was delayed again, so that month clearly isn't necessary under normal circumstances.

Cats current roster is:
Norton
Cotton
Lo Buluk
Steindl
Wagstaff

with Majok subject to a club option.
Without Kay they will look to use their free import slot on a quality big. I'm guessing a 4/5 that can split duties with Jesse & Jook.

Trev's view of Europe is similar to what we have previously discussed: Some of the power teams are fine, cashed up, and looking to take advantage of the quality players available. Whilst some lesser teams are in deep shit, so overall the situation isn't too rosy.

Are all the Hawks players now out of contract?
If Damo retires, wouldn't mind getting Dech back as backup.

Naturally a lot of things could change if Cotton gets naturalised early.
If not, I guess we can still pursue a marquee player.

Rightly or Wrongly, Sydney were the best regular season team, and that was with Bogut's injuries.
Yes, Ware, Bogut, and Cooks are big losses, but not insurmountable.

Hopefully Beaver will improve in his 2nd year.
They need to lock in Bruce, he was very good for them last season.
One would expect a gun import PG would be on the agenda. Haven't heard any rumours, one way or another, about Ware returning, but either way I'm sure they can find somebody decent. Would Taylor be up to a full-time starting gig??

Didi is apparently contracted, so if not yet required in the NBA, he should be a solid player for them in his 2nd year.

Be interesting to see if the re-sign Elbows.
And would they try to bring Tate back, or go for somebody bigger with the 2nd import slot?

I have assumed they are eligible to be NS for both years. Otherwise what's the point of a 2 yr deal.

On Moller, I've read that it's a team option.
At this point hard to say how keen they should be. Apart from the high profile cases, we haven't really seen any true indications of what movements are likely to look like. Are we going to see a net inflow or outflow of talent??

According to Santamaria, White has turned down a few multi-year offers, including the Wildcats.

I think if you look at the players the Cats have chased, and missed, it indicates that players are often looking for things other than the last dollar.
If the offers are similar, then minutes and relationships with coaches become important.

Supposedly Brisbane in talks with H Froling, which seems weird,
and consensus they may only go with one import.

Multiple teams in talk with Taylor (Budget Import)

Perth & Why: because relationship with Cotton/Decent 3&D PG/Fits right into system with Damo retiring (Not confirmed)

Sydney & Why: because Lisch might be done(Surgrey on Ankle), Fans love him & Kings wouldn't go for a 5 because they have Kicks & just signed Jordan Hunter to a 3 year deal

Adelaide & Why: Coach Henry loves players like him running the team at the PG position (Team First, Unselfish, Defender & Prioritize Winning)

I believe his name has come up a lot because of the potential he’s showed, he won’t cost teams a lot of money and they know what they will be getting other than other imports out there that might cost more & would be going on hearsay and not actually watching him up close

Perth have exercised their option on Jook.

In retrospect, I'm not surprised given the timing. My understanding is that the deadline was this week, which is fair enough, and gives players some certainty.
He had some good games last season, and should be better in his 2nd year. Reasonable, solid bench player, and doesn't mind doing the hard work. He'd be reasonably cheap, and I imagine he's happy at home in Perth.

So that's 6 locked in. 4 spots remaining.

Kendall Stephens plays offence only and that's very streaky. One or two older players on that list would be reasonable depth but rest not much there to get excited about.
Walker and Hooley would be useful at Adelaide that don’t have a lot to chose from. Vague as well probably, they all play defence.

That's a team ten years ago would have been great, now stocks in deep heat will skyrocket, looking real old. Bogut and Lisch were old too but if Newley and Kickert are expected to be a couple of your top locals then Weaver will have to get some really good imports that'll stay on court most of game. And not having Bogut roaming the key will hurt and perimeter mistakes.

What I mean to say is that the teams competing in Euroleague tend to be wealthier and stronger, and therefore better able to withstand the impact of covid.

Obviously everything depends on how and when restrictions are lifted in Europe. BUT, if its possible for games to resume (even if only in certain "clean" cities) behind closed doors, then something like Euroleague may be viable.
Whilst I suspect that some 2nd teir leagues, in some countries, may be at least another year off being able to resume.

Its obviously all very speculative at this time, I'm just saying that somebody like Motum, contracted to cashed-up team like Valencia, is more likely to be playing in Europe than somebody who was signed to a 2nd division team in BuFu Slovakia.

Nobody is saying that the whole world will be shut down for years.
But there are three basic issues.
Firstly money. Even when restrictions are fully lifted, money will be much tighter in some places. Not everywhere, as I said some of the big teams have deep pockets and billionaire owners, but some will be doing it tough. My gut assumption being that those top teams will staill have money to offer guys like Cotton, Kay, Motum, but the lesser leagues and teams may have to cut costs.
2nd, Restrictions. Clearly some places are going to have problems, including "2nd waves". longer than elsewhere. So whilst some European leagues may be back in action, we can't assume they all will be.
Lastly, comfort/ fear. Will the world ever be the same again. BBall has become increasingly globalised over the last 40 years, to the point where most players would not even think twice when their agents rang with an international offer. And some still won't worry or care. But many will.
I hate to keep carping on about Plumlee, but he got sacked by his Chinese team just before shit hit the fan, and instead found himself "stuck" in Australia when restrictions hit. That's going to make some players think twice when weighing up their options.

And as I said, its all about timing. Nobody is suggesting things won't eventually get back to "normal", but its a question of how quickly things rebound, and I think its a fair assumption that for next season, some European teams will be behind us in their recovery.

Yes, Singler is a cheap import.
With only two, and a ten man squad, I would think there is LESS opportunity for such imports.
That said, if you're one of the teams that is short on cash, struggling to fill places, and need to fill a particular role, a budget import might be an option.

I am not sure how serious Brisbane were about contending, on the surface they were trying, afterall they recruited Sobey and developed Magnay.

The one reason I thought they weren't serious is that they got Patterson, then decided to pair him with 2 poor imports.

Braun was supposed to be the cheap budget import and his stats were not that much worse than Singlers.

Whilst I understand Patterson would have taken up a lot of the money, Singler and Braun were good fits for the team. They were OK defenders, but didn't suit roles of rebounders, or floor spacers (Singler was 44% but on 2 attempts a game).

Probably not really news, but I understand Perth have had talks with several players, but are somewhat in limbo.

They are carefully monitoring Martin's rehab. Current gos is that he won't be ready, which could force them to start the season with a stop-gap DP or TP, or that he may opt to retire.

They are keeping their cards close regarding Cotton. I don't know if they could or would have any inside knowledge on the process of his application. Makes it hard to predict. If they KNEW his approval was coming, by say January, they would likely affect their recruitment.

Kay is probably gone. My understanding is that he has received European offers, but they are currently contingent.
Cats have not given up hope, because it could conceivably get to the point that Kay chooses to stay for a guaranteed salary rather than accept a covid-contingent deal in Europe.
BUT there are also rumblings that Perth may need to replace him before that happens, so it's not impossible he winds up elsewhere in the NBL.

Nothing firm on Reath. Either people don't know, aren't saying, or it too may be dependent on the covid gods. IIRC he's contracted in Serbia, but have no idea if it's a club option, or of course whther their league will go ahead.

They have "kept in contact" with a couple of local veterans, so depending on how things fall, there could yet be a surprise signing.

There is apparently mutual keenness for a White return, but it will come down to availability, imports slot(s) and money, so nothing new there.

So Perth have 3 starting spots left.
Cotton +1 import + 2 locals.
Or
Cotton + 2 imports + 1 local.

Hope the Wildcats nab a local centre e.g. Reath, Mathiang or even Bairstow.
